My family and I rented a property through Vale and Marsh. From start to finish, the staff were both helpful and supportive, and kept us updated on how we were progressing with our application.
The whole procedure was handled seamlessly. Catherine, in particular was so helpful.

Sold my house with Vale and Marsh this year (2025) and they were absolutely brilliant. Catherine, Caroline & Alex were easy & efficient to deal with, offering a sensible feet on the ground approach which I really appreciated being so far away.

Their great communications throughout the process kept myself & my legal team up to speed with proceedings (viewings, surveys, tradesmen visits etc) and their in depth knowledge & experience reassured me at all times.

Due to my absence & long distance from the East Sussex/Kent area, they were happy to go above & beyond what would normally be expected of your average estate agents - checking in on the empty property, meter readings, liaising with neighbours etc, they also have a great address book of local tradesmen which they were able tap into on my behalf when the need arose.

I would definitely turn to Vale & Marsh should I need them in the future.

Renting through Vale and Marsh was a disaster from start to finish. We paid £7,500 per month for a house that was misrepresented, poorly maintained, and managed with complete incompetence.

The property was completely misrepresented. It was advertised as having eight bedrooms, working security cameras, and outdoor lighting, but in reality, it had six bedrooms, only two working cameras, and barely any outdoor lights. The agent also claimed it had a pristine tennis court, but during viewings, we were told we couldn’t see it because it was “too wet and slippery.” Turns out, the court was full of cracks and completely unusable. Similar to the pool decking which was laid incorrectly and would pinch your toes walking on it.

One of the most shocking failures was how they handled a serious health hazard. We were left with two large bee hives outside the master bedroom, totaling over 5,000 bees. This made the room completely unlivable, especially in the summer. Our newborn baby was only three weeks old at the time, just one sting could have been life-threatening for a three week old.

Despite raising this multiple times, Vale and Marsh’s response was to do nothing. They brought in pest control only to confirm the problem with a thermal camera, then refused to take action. Their solution? “They’ll die off over winter.” (Which is completely incorrect—honey bees don’t just disappear.) Alex the founder promised that he’d have his “beekeeper friend” John Priestley come and remove the bees but that never happened.

Beyond their failure to act on real safety concerns, their bias toward the landlord was blatant.
• The landlord came onto the property without notice, despite this being a clear breach of tenant privacy.
• On the day of check-in, after we had already paid a deposit, removals were unpacking, and six months’ rent had been transferred, the landlord informed us that she would be one of the gardeners regularly present at the property. This was never disclosed before, and it is completely abnormal for a private rental.
• A debt collector showed up at the house looking for a previous tenant, and instead of treating this seriously, the agent just shrugged it off as “normal.”

Now, two months after moving out, we still haven’t received our deposit back. Alongside the landlord, Vale and Marsh have done everything possible to delay the process, ignoring legal timeframes and dragging it out. At this point, it’s clear this is a deliberate tactic to withhold tenant money for as long as possible.

If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard of Vale and Marsh before, it’s because they used to operate under the name Weald of Kent. Why the name change? Renowned and well respected companies don’t tend rebrand.

This agency is sloppy, untrustworthy, and puts profit over tenant rights. If you’re considering renting through them, think twice. The stress, financial loss, and disappointment aren’t worth it.
