Here in Virginia we had a credit union, member one, that was excellent and never had problems. Virginia credit union bought them out. Now they hold social security checks for two additional days before clearing. Remember, this is the social security administration!! For those of us whose spouse now lives with Jesus, this is an issue. All will know one day…take my word for it. Today I deposited a$3400 check from a local jewelry store that has been in business forever. They are holding it two days. I hate changing banks but am forced to see what’s available. I know it can be fixed, somebody just has to care. Please fix this, it’s important to seniors.

F this company. Worst customer service! It’s like pulling teeth just to make a payment. They are going downhill very quickly into the dumpster fire. It’s sad

I've been banking with Virginia credit union since I moved to Virginia. They are great. They try to be as accomodating as they can and have additional services that other banks do not offer.

Star they don’t look out for their account holders. They called me about unusual activity on my account after they took out the money, not before to get thy transactions approved. Then they didn’t return my money just cancelled my card. I had to call 5’Temu and Cash App to get my money back but since my card has been deactivated they have no water to return it . The bank was no help at all. I asked if I could get the new card information and they told me they don’t give that information over the phon

This credit union is awfull I tried to make a payment on my credit card the rep I was talking to said she couldn't help me she is just a contractor I got so frustrated I have waited 45minutes on the phone they make it so hard for evey little thing please don't commit to this credit union

Beware .....if you think that you are dealing with Member one credit union, you are not.... you are dealing with Virginia Credit Union that took it over. Not a merge, because there's nothing left of MOCU, it's VACU all the way.....there is no trace of member one Credit Union left. There is NO customer service. They must've fired everybody from Member one because as you wait for an hour on HOLD, you will hear their commercial , over and over, that they're hiring new people and are offering large signing bonuses. That might tell you something right there.
The screw ups are monumental. I have a small personal loan that was to be paid on a debit card. They can't figure out how to use the card, but they have no problem calling and texting about a late payment.
And forget asking for a home equity loan. You'll be at least 30 minutes on hold only to be answered by the receptionist who will tell you she'll take your name and number and sometime within the next two days someone will call you. And of course they don't.
If you have been a Member One Credit Union member for years and you think there's any loyalty there , nope! there is none, so don't give them your loyalty , go find a new Credit Union. This organization is a dumpster fire.

I was a Member One customer till Virginia Credit Union merged (I voted No on the merge). Today, April 25, I still have not heard to any of my emails or their Help site. There is a problem with with establishing an External Account with another institution (they are telling me it is not them). Just one of the issues. I would advice anyone to look elsewhere for banking.

What used to be a reliable, customer-focused experience has completely fallen apart. For over a week now, accounts have been a mess—transactions showing up as “ATM” with no merchant names, which led to incorrect ATM fees being charged. Yes, they eventually reversed them, but that doesn’t excuse the chaos in the first place.

It gets worse. I had a simple $9 refund from Walmart somehow get flipped into a debit after the merger. That’s not a minor glitch—that’s a serious error involving my money.

Meanwhile, branches are packed with frustrated customers trying to get issues resolved. Lines out the door, long waits, and no clear answers. And online banking? Still inaccessible.

I’m already in the process of moving my accounts elsewhere, because this level of dysfunction is unacceptable. What was once a great credit union has been completely ruined.

Avoid Virginia Credit Union at all costs.

Virginia Credit Union bought out MemberOne Credit Union. Was seeing if they could help us any with a car loan refinance. Make any adjustments. Nope. The logo they have has is "We Got You". Yes you damn well do , but once this loan is paid off you can say goodbye to us because you weren't helpful when we needed it.

Do not bank here. They are not truly a credit union and more like a bank. They 'merged' with my credit union years ago and it hasn't been the same. All robots and pressing keys to get nowhere. Biggest scammers is VACU.

Don't bank with Virginia Credit Union!

The day after Christmas someone was able to charge $17000+ to my VACU credit card that I never use. The charges were mostly for Kalshi and $800 or $900 per transaction. VACU claims they texted me and also emailed me at a different address (which I found out my email was changed to on 12/29). Apparently when VACU emailed the "new" email address, the transaction was supposedly verified and the charges continued.

I called VACU as soon as I found out about the fraud in early January and filed a claim, which they said they would investigate, but over a month later I still have no update. Yesterday, I noticed a $25 late charge and $250 in interest charges on that account.

I called today to inquire and found out I was supposed to make the minimum payment while they were investigating, which could take 60-90 days. None of that information was provided to me when I called to file fraud. And, get this, the minimum payment on the $17000 is $899!

When I called today I spoke to probably 8 different people and was transferred, disconnected, and given different numbers to call multiple times. No one was empathetic to my situation until the last person, Ty, who gave me all the details I was looking for (but then tried to upsell me). 🙄

So, now I have to make an $899 payment for $17000 in charges I didn't make or have my credit score destroyed. Once this is resolved (hopefully) I will never deal with them again!

Beware of this credit union. Very unethical. They changed the due date on my loan to a couple of weeks later. I adjusted my payment to the new schedule, and they charged me extra interest for the 18 days—over $100. Find another loan source if possible.

I thought I was happy with this credit union, but it turns out they are just a bunch of fee happy bankers like all the rest. I made an error and paid a first loan installment twice. They want $50 to put one of the payments back into my account. Highway robbery!!! Will never get a loan with them again.

I've been a member of VACU for 40 years. I've had numerous personal loans, auto loans, a 30-year mortgage, and a HELOC. All were paid on time, all paid off. I am currently debt-free with the exception of an auto loan that I wanted them to take over. My home is worth over $400K, and I have a 401(k) worth over $50K as well as savings of $40K, yet they turned me down based solely on my income. It's unbelievable; they look at one number and make a decision? VACU is nothing like it used to be; now the members are just numbers and not worth their time. I am leaving permanently.

I've been a loyal Virginia Credit Union member for years, but I finally had enough and moved my accounts to another institution due to the endless, frustrating fees and terrible customer service. I went into a branch to move my direct debits for two loans to my new bank and close my checking account. They debited one payment, then sent me letters saying they weren't debiting any more payments. No one communicated this with me beforehand--just letters after the fact. It's beyond frustrating that after all these years of being a customer, I had to deal with this nonsense. They didn't do anything they promised, and the lack of communication was infuriating. I have NEVER paid late on either of my loans and I'm so glad to be rid of this place and will never recommend VACU to anyone. Terrible service, ridiculous fees, and zero accountability.

Yes, They have gotten too big and lost that personal touch. No control over their own MASTER Card and if you move out of the US, don't expect good service. The new enhanced security seems to decline most of my credit purchases, as not within their parameters, but they won't tell me what the parameters are. When I phone they won't accept a non U.S. zip Code or phone number to pass security. I have excellent credit, so that isn't an issue. The credit union itself is mostly good, but don't move out of the country or get their credit card

Virginia Credit Union has, in my opinion, expanded to the point where there is as little, if not less, personal "contact" than with a WellsFargo, Chase, or other national bank. On several different occasions over the last year I have been hit with multiple overdraft fees because I did not learn of the overdrafts until the fee had posted, then couldn't deposit funds quickly enough (because of an intervening weekend) to avoid additional overdraft fees. Part of the problem was mine--having drafts of my account that were not regular, so easy to recall simply by reviewing the statement for the previous month. I am in the process of rectifying that by doing all of my business with a different credit union effective 18 September unless my monthly Social Security benefits get transferred earlier than that, and although its nearest office is a good 60 miles from me, I can use one of several "share" offices that are actually closer to me with one even having Saturday hours!
