Six companies responded with quotations varying between £750 and £1,850 to move my household contents from Bucks to Devon.

Stallion Removals quoted £750 which I accepted and then they promptly upped it to £850 when I requested an increase in insurance cover from £30,000 to £60,000.
Towards the end of the first day of packing and with a half size removal truck already on its way back to their depot containing most of my goods, I was informed that I would have to pay a surcharge as they had underestimated the number of packing boxes they would need and that they would need a bigger truck.
Hours later I am informed that the surcharge is £990 payable before departure.
With a gun held firmly to my head I had no option but to pay up.
Nice, really nice and thanks so much for the introduction but next time I''ll use an established well known English company.

Will never use this again

Great idea, but those taking part don't seem to want to take part. From the many companies my details were passed on to, only two contacted me - and one of those was some weeks later. However, I hope to use one of these companies for my move so it was all worth while.

I thought the quotes would come through the website. I didn't realise I would be hounded by calls frpm various agencies

I quote professional and competitive, another company's quote was laughable- less than 1/3rd of what we know to be a realistic price .
Don't use nayone who quotes you over the phone as basically they haven't got a clue- and do you really want someone clueless in charge of your housemove?

It seems a very good system - to know that the companies sending quotes are members of a reputable organisation and that, if any problems arose, I would be able to address them through UK Removals.
I am pleased I decided to choose a company in this way and am very pleased with the company I decided on after they had all visited and sent in detailed quotes and information. I felt a sense of security knowing that the companies have to demonstrate certain standards and pay a fee to be on the list as this helps to ensure their integrity.
