The scam follows a classic peer-to-peer marketplace advance-fee and extortion scheme. transaction on traildevils.ch:
negotiated the purchase of a black Size L bicycle frame with seller lador23 for €391.00 EUR (365 CHF including international shipping to Poland).
The seller lador23 instructed me to send the payment via PayPal using the "Friends and Family" option to recipient Oleg Herbeda.
By convincing you to use "Friends and Family" instead of "Goods and Services," the scammer deliberately bypassed PayPal's Buyer Protection coverage.
Immediately after i sent the €391.00 EUR, the seller claimed he did not receive the money into his available balance.
He falsely stated that because your PayPal account was newly created, PayPal placed the funds on "hold."
He then claimed that PayPal instructed him to have me send a second payment of the exact same amount (€391.00 EUR) to "confirm" and release the original payment.
The seller explicitly stated that if i did not make the second transaction, the overall deal would not take place and the item would not be shipped.
