I went here around 9 years ago and it was incredible, one of the best spa experiences I had ever had, but with a hefty price tag.
Anyway, I booked this for a treat for my friends birthday and it cost ALOT of money. Unfortunately she couldn’t make it due to personal circumstances but did tell me 6 days before, I contacted to see if I could change the date, but they wouldn’t let us change (it was either go, or lose the booking and money completely). I ended up going with my husband… and what a disappointment it was.
When we arrived we went for breakfast, service in the dining area was appalling we were the only people in there at the time and the staff were just all chatting in the kitchen area, I got 2 slices of sourdough toast for breakfast it was stale and cold; one of the slices had a huge hole in the middle of it, i was astounded they served and charged me for that (nearly £6).
The swimming pool was cold, the steam room in the swimming pool area smelled really bad and was very run down. The sauna was ok.
Went into the relaxation room and there was some women in there laughing and taking so loud (last time I went it was pure bliss, background music and ambient lighting, so peaceful, people around relaxing and napping no one making a muff). I stool up and left the room due to the cackling and loud talking and gossiping, I felt like I was in a restraint or bar, not a relaxation lounge in a spa.
We then went into the heat and ice experience and that was a nice experience but did feel abit dirty. The tiles felt grimey, the water in the plunge pool had like a coating on top of it. The saunas were nice and clean.
Had a treatment and that was really nice (the reason it got 2 stars or would have been 0), the best part of the visit, the lady who did it (Amna) was so lovely; but there was a lot of noise on the corridors outside. Slamming of doors and people chatting which sounded like staff. When I left the treatment room and walked up the corridor there was a pungent smell of sewage 😳.
Lunch was limited, the food was bland; had to add lots of salt and pepper. The service was absolutely shocking honestly. We were seated and no one come to take our order for 25 minutes also I have to add… It was £3.90 for a glass of orange juice which tasted like non- perishable Tesco value from concentrate orange juice.
I was so disappointed and I will never be returning unless it has a major refurb. It’s very dated. There is much better spas out there these days, which are not as expensive.
If you wanted advice on whether to go here; based on my experience i would say I wouldn’t waste your hard earned money, and find somewhere else.
What a shame! This place used to be amazing, the potential is huge. They need to reinvest into their food, service and facilities. I honestly don’t know how they get returning business, maybe it’s people who haven’t ever been to another spa before?
