Love being a tiney childminder
I have been a tiney childminder for just over a year now and I’m so happy I chose to go down the agency route and with tiney in particular.
They provided high-quality, comprehensive training and close support throughout the registration process and once registered you have a huge wealth of accessible training and resources at your fingertips through their slick app experience, which is constantly getting added too.
For me, their quality assurance visit (instead of Ofsted) was such a supportive and positive process.
I know some childminders have some issue with Tiney’s response time for in-app queries, but I know this is something tiney is aware of and working on and is a result of their exponential growth and I’ve never had issue quickly getting through to someone on the phone and they are always so helpful.
Yes they take 10-12% of your earnings but in my option you are absolutely getting value from them (eg so much training, sort out your insurance etc, great community, possible career development opportunities and support whenever you need it, plus not having to deal directly with Ofsted is a bonus).
Would highly recommend tiney to anyone considering a career in childminding.

Do not sign up as a childminder with Tiney
I was formerly a childminder with Tiney. They are great whole you pay your joining fee and get set up but that's where the support ends. It takes days, sometimes weeks to get a response when you need support woth anything. The invoices are wrong 90% of the time and you have to chase them. If parents refuse to pay for their contracted hours there is no support to get your money.
They change the terms and conditions you have signed when they decide to change their business model or fee structure which you must sign even when you don't want to because of the personal financial loss.
Their staff are badly trained and make mistakes on invoicing, funding and the advice they give to both the childminders and parents who call with queries. There are also not enough staff for the workload.
They have some wonderful childminders on the books but as a company they are absolutely one to avoid.
If I could give no stars then I would.

Thank you so much for your review. I'd like to address several of the points raised for clarity.
Tiney have an extensive programme of support for our registered childminders, including but not limited to support with payments and billing, support with parental disputes, training, webinars, in-app tools, SEND support, discounts and benefits, annual tax summaries and more. Support is available via email, in-app message and phone and we are continually growing our support team to keep pace with our growing community.
Support for unpaid bills is available, initially via our payments team but also via the insurance provided to our childminders upon registration. We have many examples of childminders who have successfully made a claim for debt recovery assistance.
We have recently updated our terms and conditions around funded places - the first time we as a business have done so. This was done to reflect the changes made at government level and introduction of the new working parent entitlement for younger children from the age of 9 months. Our community were fully advised of the upcoming changes 6 months in advance and we remain committed to communicating openly and honestly with our childminding community.
I am pleased that we do agree that tiney have a community made up of many wonderful childminders who are providing an amazing service to the children and families they work with. We wish you every success in your future childminding business.
Thorough training and great support
The support is amazing and friendly via phone and email, with quick responses to any queries. Training is very well done in small achievable chunks and very engaging. Lots of reading on the app but doable in small amounts of time available throughout your day. There is so much information available on the app.

Hi, thanks for rating us highly, and for the question. It's true that just like many nurseries tiney charge a one off Joining Fee on some contract types. The fee is in place to help cover the essential costs of onboarding families and ensuring they receive a high-quality experience. It contributes towards tasks like registering families, setting up contracts, and managing other payment schemes. Families using a childminder registered by tiney get access to the tiney app, providing helpful features like digital billing, expert early years resources, and parent rewards - as well as a free online GP for their whole family for the duration of their enrolment. The tiney app and the online GP was rated as a top feature in our parent customer satisfaction survey and is well used by the families of minded children. Lastly, we can confirm the Joining fee is only applied to certain types of contracts and never charged on qualifying low income childcare contracts. If you have any questions about the joining fee then please speak to your childminder or directly to the tiney team.
Greedy - do not use.
You will notice that all the reviews are written from new childminders. That is because there is an incentive when they leave a good review, and they are yet to be disappointed.
When you start out they cannot do enough for you and bend over backwards to do everything. Once you’re registered get and are working, however, they are useless. They can’t get anything right, invoices need editing three or four times before they’re correct, they don’t ever respond and their fees are far too high. It’s very disappointed.
They also take a percentage of the fees that you charge for consumables etc. So if you charge £1 for lunch they take 12% of it. How is it fair for parents to have to pay more for food or childminders to have to be out of pocket. Similarly, if I take children to the zoo, why should parents have to pay 12% more on top of the entrance fee? Absolutely unethical and immoral.
I have heard good things about SCA agency.

Thank you so much for your review. I'm sorry that you feel that the majority of reviews are from new childminders. Please do read on as we have many reviews from established childminders as well!
Our payments and invoicing services are just one of the benefits our childminders have alongside their registration. We do recognise that during the government roll out of the new funding entitlements over August and September this year our response times fell below our normal levels but we have taken substantial steps to avoid this happening again and to improve our response times overall, including growing our support team and the introduction of new team tools.
We are very transparent about our charging model and this is covered during training and registration to ensure all future tiney childminders are happy and fully understand the tiney membership offer. I'm sorry that you were unhappy with our charging model and had not fully appreciated what this would look like in practice.
Tiney's mission is to support our amazing community of registered childminders to be successful in their businesses, to provide amazing care for the children and families they work with and to ensure that childminders are considered the professional childcarers that they are by the public and at government level.
Avoid at all costs
I joined tiney in January 2022, since I started they changed my contract over and over again without me agreeing to any of the new terms, made childminders add a joining fee to parents which no childminder benefits from
Then they wanted a slice of my funded childcare payments which was always agreed when I joined they would never take from
The amount they were asking for was equivalent to me employing another member of staff
Never answer emails or calls
In the last 18 months they have never gotten one invoice correct for my parents which was making me look incompetent and parents were not happy with tiney
They have offered no support to myself and left me in a really difficult situation of having to leave them and join another agency which really effected my mental health
Personally this agency is all about collecting money from there hard working childminders without offering any support or help which you can not get for free or small amounts from local authorities
Any childminder wishing to join them I would think twice as they are just money grabbing and caused so much upset and distress to childminders with them
I can personally tell you there are at least a 100 current childminders deregistering
I wish I never had gone with tiney and advise anyone else to avoid

Thank you for your review. During your time with tiney the team worked closely with you to resolve many issues. We spoke to you regularly and i hope you will agree your business grew and went from strength to strength during the period of your registration.
When you signed up with tiney you were made fully aware of our pricing model and structure and you were also made aware of the upcoming changes to the way we process and charge for the new extended working parent entitlement 6 months in advance. These charges will enable us to continue to provide support and services to our registered community and were introduced after very careful consideration. Tiney are dedicated to supporting our community and ensuring that we are a sustainable and secure business able to navigate any upcoming changes. We believe that this is one of the best ways we can serve our community and the children and families that rely on them.
I'm sorry to see that you decided to leave tiney as it is clear to us that you used the support and resources available to start your business strongly. The team wish you every success in the future.

Fantastic support
I am a qualified primary school teacher but new to childminding. Tiney have been fantastic at supporting me through the process and have always replied promptly to any of my questions. They have an abundance of training material suitable for different learning styles. I have been very impressed with the app so far. I have just signed my first contract so hopefully it goes smoothly from here.

Tiney was very helpful and always there to answer questions and give support, only took 2 months to register and although they take a small percentage of your income, it is worth it for me as i get so much support and help and dont have to worry about the paperwork side of things which saves hours of work!

AVOID joining tiney at all costs
AVOID joining tiney at all costs! They constantly change their terms and conditions, lie to their so called " community" about several things and seem to have one rule for one and then another rule for another! They are money hungry and don't care about their childminders once you've passed!

Hi Hayley, we are sorry that you feel unhappy about your experience so far with tiney. At tiney we pride ourselves on communicating openly and honestly with our community. We have recently updated our terms and conditions for the first time in several years in respect of the government changes relating to the working parent funding entitlement. The community were made aware of this upcoming change well in advance of the terms being updated and we provided clear information about the updates made in our email.
Our team are dedicated to supporting our registered childminders and there is a huge range of support available once you are registered, including our incredible post-registration team, payments team, safeguarding team, SEND support assistance and technical support via the app. We have lots of training opportunities available including our upcoming Autumn INSET month. Please don't forget that you are also able to access local peer to peer support via our amazing community coaches and community groups.
Great care for my little one
My experience with my childminder Krista has been fantastic. My little boy loves spending time there and looks forward to it every week. I get updates about my son throughout the day via the Tiney app which I really appreciate - it's great being able to see photos and read about his day. Communication with Tiney about invoicing is really clear. Krista has also been very helpful with getting us set up with any relevant funding. My experience with a Tiney childminder has been excellent and I couldn't recommend Krista more.

Very unprofessional
Very unprofessional we set up a contract for pick up and drop off at school and and the childminder canceled the contract with no communication from her or agency. We only found out when we contacted the agency as she never answered us all of this happened 2 months before school starts.
The agency never contacted us.

Thank you for your comments. Contracts are arranged by our childminders directly with parents. Tiney provides administrative services to our childminders and as such would not normally contact a parent directly regarding the cancellation of a contract. Please do message our Customer Service team with details of the contract and we will be happy to investigate this incident further.

I just become an official childminder now and my training has been wonderful, everyone in tiney’s team especially my advisor have been really cooperative and helpful in all matters and i now think i really made the right decision choosing tiney as my child minding agency☺️

Rude and upsetting
Rude and unhelpful.
Childminder terminated my sisters contract with no warning.
She's now lost her job.
Childminder didn't even call her.
Her 3 year old son is beside himself with upset.
Tiney staff are very rude.
Hope your happy to the Nursery in Annesley Woodhouse.
Absolutely no thought to anyone's feelings, to replace a child with others that have more days is disgusting and greedy.

I am sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience with a tiney childminder. In usual circumstances our childminders will always endeavour to provide at least 30 days notice of a contract termination in line with the standard contract terms. I believe you may already have been in contact with our customer service team but please do not hesitate to contact them directly to raise your concerns if this is not the case.
