My friend and I visited The Coconut Tree in Cheltenham on Sat 28th Mar. The food and service was ok but nothing to write home about. There was no vide or 'fun' as advertised, maybe because it was the afternoon.
The real issue with this place is the SMELL! On leaving my friend and I realised that our clothing smelled very strongly of cooking. In fact I drove back to Swindon with my car window open as it was so strong. Once I got home I had to strip off my all clothes and place in the washing machine. My leather jacket however had to be hung outside, along with my handbag and Ugg boots. EVERYTHING STANK! Calling my friend in Birmingham, she had exactly the same problem. Not a nice experience.
On Monday, having aired my jacket for nearly 2 days, I had to take it to a dry cleaner, who expressed that it was so strong that they could not guarantee to be able to remove the stench! The dry cleaning cost is £55!
This lunch has turned out to be VERY expensive indeed.
So readers be warned, if you visit you could be stinky for a long, long time.
Needless to say we will not be visiting again!

We had a brilliant experience at The Coconut Tree in Bath. The staff were super friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. As it was our first time trying Sri Lankan food, we asked our waiter to surprise us by choosing the dishes—and he did a fantastic job!

Every plate that arrived was packed with flavour, and the tapas-style sharing format made it fun and relaxed. We particularly enjoyed the mix of spices and fresh ingredients—totally different from anything we’ve had before, and all absolutely delicious.

A great atmosphere, lovely service, and genuinely exciting food. Highly recommended for anyone curious to try something new. We’ll definitely be back!

I was recommended The Coconut Tree by a friend and I am so pleased they told me about it! I had the most wonderful evening - great vibe, really friendly staff and delicious food. I chose a variety of veggie / vegan options and they were all sooooo tasty ! Also enjoyed some delicious cocktails.

We were party of 3 sat by a very busy raised table, and there was practically no room to move a chair out and sit comfortably, due to the cramped setup. Therefore, as the restaurant was quiet we decided to move to another table that had more space so we could sit comfortably and enjoy our meal. We ordered our food and drinks, which we enjoyed. Our plates were taken away and we ordered some more drinks afterwards. Whilst having our post dinner drinks, we were asked to leave the restaurant because the table we sat at had another booking on. We were in total disbelief at being asked to leave and pushed out the door as over half the tables at the restaurant were empty! It wasn’t busy at all. My friend had to down his pint as he was walking towards the door.
So based on the fact that we couldn’t even finish our drinks and were told to leave to free up the table (when there were plenty of other tables available) we left feeling very annoyed and angry. Consequently I’d never recommend your restaurant if that’s how you treat your customers and we will not be returning.

What a great place. Food was delicious, great cocktails and fab service. Thank you for a fabulous all round experience.
