Our History:
Since 1932, our family business has been thriving thanks to the late Jack Harrison’s vision. We are proud to say that our traditional family values have remained at the core of everything we do. Back in the day, we used to deliver coal to local homes using horses and carts. Although times have changed, the memories of those days remain with us, and we still cherish them. As the business grew, Jack’s son Geoff joined him on trips to the mine. It was on one of these trips that Geoff thought he was left behind and walked all the way to the mine! Such memories remind us of the hard work and dedication that went into building this business. As the years went by, all four of Jack’s sons joined the business, and we have since expanded our product range to meet the demands of the modern world.
Today, we employ a team of around 30 staff who work tirelessly to deliver modern, efficient fuels to homes, factories, hotels, farms, and all kinds of premises. We have harnessed technology to keep up with the needs of the 21st century and supply garage forecourts and shops with pre-packed fuels. We moved to our current location at the industrial estate in Milton in 1992, which allowed us to expand and modernise our business to meet current requirements. We are proud of our history and the legacy that Jack left behind. As we continue to grow and adapt to the ever-changing business landscape, we remain driven by the same values that have kept us going all these years. We are grateful to our loyal customers, and we look forward to serving them for many more years to come.

Watch for the “we need to split the palet” email
Tried to charge an extra £40 to split the load unnecessarily claiming an 18 ton truck couldn’t get to my house. Once dispatched I received my order in good time, the driver was very professional and couldn’t understand why they thought the delivery couldn’t be achieved.

We always look at the accessibility of the delivery address on google maps, to ensure that the right size vehicle is sent out for the delivery, to avoid any additional redelivery and split down charges that would be applied, if the delivery needed to be made again on a smaller vehicle.
We understnad that at times looking at googlew maps, road widiths and turning circles can be missleading. If we were to advise that we think a smaller vehicle would be needed, we alwayd welcome the customers optinion on this. If a customers advises us that a larger vehicle would have no issues making the delivery we will proceed with out any additonal charge from ourselves for the order to be split down.

VERY DISAPPOINTED
We have used this company before with no problem regards delivery and quality, however this time after ordering a full pallet, we encountered problems with delivery, at the time we did complain and in fairness we received compensation. Now onto the quality of the coal, we are convinced they have received from a different supplier, it claimed to be low ash content, this is not the case, we have to empty the tray twice when the fire is lit. The content of a bag of coal is one third slack, I'm sure this is to make up the weight per bag. The coal has been stored in a dry area on our premises but the goal is wet to the touch therefore rendering it very difficult to lite.
We will definitely not be using this company ever again.
For reference, we ordered the coal 3 months ago and now using.

We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your order of fuel from us. If you would like to send us more infromation regarding your order, I can look into this in further detail for you.
We fill and seals bags ourself at our depot, we do have to follow all legal regulations with the amount of fuel we store here, and that is that it has to be stored outside and not under cover. As the weather has been very wet over the last few months unfortunlaty this would leave the fuel wet before this is bagged up.
Once the delivery has been made, opening the bags a couple at a time, providing the bags are stored in a dry covered area such as a bunker or shed/garage, the fuel will dry out and will not effect the quality of the fuel.
We supply several different smokeless fuels, some of the fuels do burn differently and produce more ash than others. Our sales team are always happy to offer advice and speak with our customers regarding the different types of fuels.

Good service from coal shop
From ordering to delivery, everything went well. The smokeless coal (brite flame) is better than the brazier that I have used for the past few years and at a reasonable price. Overall, I am very satisfied with my order.

We were not happy with the coal that we had ordered as it did not burn hot enough and left a lot of ash. We contacted The Coal Shop who were happy to exchange it for a different type of coal. Very satisfied with the service we received.

The undeliverable bag of fire wood.
I ordered a bag of fire wood to be delivered to my daughter. At the top of her lane, there’s a sign saying unsuitable for motor vehicles. Without checking, the delivery driver said that he wouldn’t go down the road. So the delivery couldn’t be made. Without argument, I suggested that they deliver the bag to a farm right beside the same road sign instead and my son in law would pick it up himself. The delivery company suggested that the grass at the farm may be too soft for such a heavy bag of wood. It could “sink”. I advised cancellation of the order and a refund of my costs. My daughter had two cement delivery trucks at her house two days before. Am sure a fire engine driver, would probably not worry about this road sign without checking first. My daughter has just built a kitchen extension to her home, complete with all the deliveries of building materials and contractors vehicles. I received my refund. Thank you.

I am sorry that we were unable to supply you with the order that you had made.
We do use a 3rd party company to deliver our national orders. We do understand that not all properties are suitable for the vehicles the haulage company use, we have a section on our wesite that has a detailed descritpion on how the delivery would be made what access would be needed in order for the deilvery to be possible.
Once again our appologies that the order was possible to complete, and we refunded the order as requested on the day of the request.

I ordered a ton of coal
I ordered a ton of coal, at the advertised price. Then was told over the phone that I would have to pay an additional £40.00. They said it would need to be on two pallets, and that I would have to pay for this. It says on their advert free delivery.

We are sorry to hear that you have not been satisfied with your ordering process.
I would like to explain fully on why this additional charge was required.
The delivery is made by a 3rd party courier, if a smaller vehicle is required or requested there would be an additional charge, as the tail lift on a smaller vehicle of 7.5 tonne or smaller, can not offload anthing heavier than 500kg.
We have a dedicated delivery page on our website, this page has a detailed explanation on how the delivery would be made via the 3rd party, such as the size of the vehicles used and if a smaller vehicle is required what the process would be for this.
We understand that not all properties are suitable for this delivery method, this is why we have such a detailed page dedicated to explaining in full how the delivery would be made to ensure that the method is suitabe for our customers needs before an order is placed.
We apologies that we were unable to deliver a larger pallet to you without having this split down, we are however able to deliver smaller pallets of 500kg or less to you with no additional cost.

Good value and good product
Ordered last week after struggling to find a more local supplier. Obviously left it too late again. Purchased a medium sized bag of birch. The quality of the product was really good with a very clean burn and evenly sized, well dried logs. Delivery was great, one day ahead of expectations but called in advance to let me know.
