This was our second Table&Candle…
This was our second Table&Candle experience and we loved it. It makes for a nice evening out locally. The food was amazing and our server Joao was informative, professional and attentive. Thanks to all those who organized the night!

The service and staff are always…
The service and staff are always fantastic at these events. The food was great - some courses more delicious than others, but all delightful experiences. The restaurant was done up with candles and it was atmospheric - however a little cold. Our table was also not the best - but guess it’s luck of the draw on timings and arrivals.
The chef was fantastic and shout out to Phoebe and Samantha who organised a special birthday treat for my partner.
We will be back!
Not worth the money
Firstly, service and the hospitality staff used at the venue were wonderful, friendly and informative. They did a good job within the circumstances. That said, we were put on a not-so-great table because of a potential addition to another table, but then that late table were back to a two person so got the better option after all.
The food was nice, but by no means equivalent to price points. Portion sizes small, and the flavour average. Had it been half the cost and more of an everyday lunch experience that's fine, but for the sell of a unique chef menu evening at a higher price point it absolutely did not meet the standard. Drinks wer very expensive ontop, and am glad we opted out of the wine package.
The event has huge possibilities as an idea, but the quality is simply not there food wise.
Misleading premium branding
Banstead, Thursday evening visit was a very disappointing experience
We were lured in by promises of a premium dining experience, but what followed was a far cry from that. It left us feeling misled and genuinely let down. The greeting was anxious and the attention felt overbearing rather than helpful. In a venue advertising itself as premium, there should be calm, attentive service; instead, we encountered constant, unnecessary pressure. The wine selections seemed bargain-basement and not thoughtfully matched to the courses. It felt as though cheap wines were passed off as proper pairings, which was alarming and deeply disappointing. The food was decent enough in isolation, but plates arrived cold or tepid and appeared to have sat in front of the kitchen for too long while staff stood around chatting. This undermined any sense of care or craft. The candlelit mood (if that was intended) felt unsettled, and the room was cleared while some guests were still finishing their desserts. It gave a rushed, chaotic impression rather than a refined experience. It was a very disappointing evening that failed to meet even basic expectations of value and service. The reality was not just short of premium; it felt deceptive compared with the branding.
Embarrassingly bad experience
Embarrassingly bad experience.
Went for the first time last night in Banstead.
The food was just weird, not creative, just weird. The lamb was good, every other course was laughable. We couldn’t wait to leave after the second course, which looked and tasted like the pasta sachets you ate at university.
The first course was a whole tomato, stuffed with a creamed cheese, in a bath of sriracha sauce. Bizarre, and NOT tasty. Finished out of politeness.
To top it off the wine pairing was laughably bad, every glass wasn’t just bad, they were atrocious
After the second glass I asked not to receive any more and stuck with the cocktails.
My friends continued and just got more and more confused at the ability to buy such awful wine.
And utter waste of money. Don’t bother
Reasonably priced and fun concept worth a visit if you are nearby
Reasonably priced and fun concept. We had Marios Milios at Tooting. 6 courses and a cocktail for £85 I think is a fair deal. Portions are decent and you won’t get home hungry for an average appetite person.
Some dishes are creative and we loved the monkfish.
It is a great idea to pop up at otherwise underused cafes in London.
Staff were professional, dishes were good and well priced.
We will probably try again some other chef at some stage.
An excellent pairing: Table&Candle X Marta Sandini
Tommaso have been an amazing host and Victoria have taken very good care of us during dinner. Chef Marta's menu was excellent, an explosion of taste, a bold re-invention of some traditional Italian (regional) dishes! We really enjoyed getting to know her too: when she came out to say hi she was great fun and very approachable! Well done everybody!

Had a lovely evening at the T&C evening with Marta Sandini.
Food was super tasty and unexpected and we were very well looked after by the smiley Victoria and Tommaso. We had the chance to have a chat with Marta, who is clearly very passionate, talented and a really bubbly person.

My wife and I had an amazing time at chef Marios Milios' event last week in Beaconsfield.
Table service was excellent, along with, of course, the food.
Each course had its own story to tell and the wines paired with it enhanced the positive experience even more.
Thank you for the wonderful evening!
At Cobham- Staff were very good but…
At Cobham- Staff were very good but it’s a conveyor belt of slightly underwhelming food and is overpriced - £315 for two people, I’d rather to have gone to Grapelli’s. This is not Noma!
Incredibly disappointing and not value for money
Sadly, this was incredibly disappointing for what is such a great concept and has such potential. We went for Marios Milios’s Sea menu in Cobham. Service and atmosphere were perfectly reasonable but thats about it. The meal (with wine and service) cost almost £300 but was in no way to the standard. Portions were tiny - the amount of seafood in the entire meal would have easily fitted in a small ramekin. 1st course - a single prawn (shell on), coated in a very average tomato sauce and hidden under a large square of nori in an ashtray. Lobster course was, at most, half a teaspoon of lobster sat on a lot(!) of gnocchi. Tuna course - a very thin slice about 4x2cm. The lemon tart/waffle cone dessert was the tiniest cone you can imagine (it was chewey and not crisp) accompanied by a very underfilled, tepid thimble of sauce. All the wine was distinctly average. The arrival cocktail was also just not that nice frankly. Overall, really underwhelming and disappointing sadly.
The Sea it was not!
Went to Cobham last night, for The Sea by Mario’s Milios and it was so disappointing! Food felt pre-prepared, monk fish was raw and we were told the chef said it was perfectly cooked - it was raw and inedible! Just not good enough for the price. The waiters and FOH staff were fantastic but sadly, BOH just did not deliver the goods! Menu read incredibly well and sounded delicious but it was so poorly executed. I wouldn’t waste my money on this gimmicky pop up again.
Great venues but the food is standard
Great venues but the food is standard. It’s like mass catering event food. We paid with wine pairing and service £360 and it didn’t warrant a third of that cost :( I asked to see the chef and no one came. It’s a sham
Not great value
I really love the idea of special Chef pop up restaurants held in varying locations, however on this occasion the experience felt overpriced and underprepared.
We visited Blighty Cafe in Highbury (Finsbury Park really, London) for Part 2: Ni Hao Ciao by Marta Sandini - Chinese Italian fusion, with wine pairings.
It was a hot day, during a well established heat wave, but no attempt had been made to cool the cafe (ie fans), so it was unpleasantly hot - we had to blow the candle out. The wine pairings were not very exciting, no one explained them to us (what we were drinking, why it was paired, where it was sourced from) and the servings were meagre - certainly not the 4 x 100ml advertised.
The food itself was ok, not particularly interesting or satisfying. The best item was actually the extra we bought - the Prawn Choux Bun, which had a recommended wine to pair with it but we were not offered this. The staff were friendly enough but not particularly attentive, they really just delivered the food and drinks and then requested a 10% service charge at the end, which we paid just so we could leave without fuss and get some fresh air. All in all it cost us around £250 (for 2) which definitely felt high for what we received.
Table and Candle with Mario Millios
Table and Candle with Mario Millios. Food was very average. Lacked depth and flavour - quite bland. The final course Ox Cheek Stifado was the opposite - overly rich plum type sauce. Not the flavours you would associate with Greece! Very overpriced and has put me off trying other pop ups with Table and Candle. Really underwhelmed sadly. Staff were attentive the only plus.
Great idea and lovely experience
Took my fiancé to this pop up in Tooting. An unassuming daytime café had been turned into a gastronomic experience: 6 course tasting menu with excellent Japanese/French fusion cuisine, wine pairings and lovely staff. All at a very reasonable price for such good food.
It's such a clever business model: Table&Candle organises the venues, staff and presumably a central kitchen for food prep, while the chefs get on with creating excellent food. Great for chefs who want to expand their clientele and work on their recipes, great for cafes with kitchens who would otherwise be shut during the evenings, great for those who love good food and are excited by new names and flavours.
