I supported my elderly father for the period in which he was being represented by Sussex Defence Solicitors for an alleged driving offence. I have now viewed closely the documentation of the case, as my father is still distressed as a result of the actions and inaction of a Partner of the firm who he feels so badly let him down. In conveying just a few of several issues that I have identified, he had to press for evidence in his favour to be included in court. To then find that some evidence was not only missing, but conveyed to the magistrates court in a confusing, amateur looking pack. Missing evidence from the pack included a Consultants Road Traffic Accident Report.

Sussex Defence required a 12 Page Agreement to be signed before they would represent him in court, which was also the case unless paid in advance. In looking through the invoices, my father paid Sussex Defence a total of £9,000 which he paid in his belief that as a client of the firm, he would be represented in a constructive, reliable and client focussed manner, which was not the case.

I am very grateful for the support given to my partner when accused of a serious crime. Together with Sussex Defence, the best possible outcome was achieved. The team, particularly Harry, kept us well informed. I was very impressed by the service we received.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority state that Sussex Defence Solicitors (SDS) of Worthing, West Sussex became a recognised body in November 2011. Companies House records show that Sussex Defence Solicitors Ltd were founded in March 2013 and were dissolved in November 2017? The website Solicitortree.com convey solicitors own account of their firm, SDS state, "With 3 years experience" and "Since our founding in 2022"?

I agreed to attend their office for 1 hour to discuss my case, which turned out to be a detailed rehearsal of the structure of the courts, court procedures and the range of penalties. This took 2 hours which resulted in being invoiced for £720.

I engaged SDS although they insisted on payment prior to any work being undertaken. Later, I was surprised to be told by a Partner that he would not be representing me in the Magistrates Court saying I should have the expertise and sharpness of a barrister.

As the case progressed I became more and more disheartened and dismayed in my view at the negative and unsupportive attitude of SDS towards my case. It caused me much more concern and stress than the actual case being brought against me.

The presentation (display) of agreed exhibits to the court was appalling, together with the omission of a vital sworn statement by the other party, which provided proof of their lies. Furthermore, included were 31 pages of confusing statistics from the opposition, which of course was not agreed by me. I can still see the magistrate hanging the exhibit file in the air by its string and asking for clarification of where to look.

At present, SDS do have a handy location in central Worthing being compact accommodation on the second floor of a shared annex to a Victorian house - now a shop.
