I adopted my dog from Save a Kill Shelter Dog 18 months ago, before this I adopted another 3 romanian puppies, the other rescues have since closed down, but they were. Ever as helpful as save a kill shelter dog, this rescue is brilliant, even now I ask them for advice as my dog ( chewbacca) was around 5 years when I adopted him, he was 1 day away from being killed in the kill shelter in Romania. He had half his tail hacked off, and had clearly been abused in his 5 or so years. It has been a learning curve for me and him, after save a kill shelter advice he is the most loyal cuddly gorgeous large breed dog. Even now this rescue is there for us, they don't turn there back on you. I can't recommend them enough. I donate every month to them as they work so hard to help these poor dogs, I have 6 rescues atm. But if ever I wanted to adopt again from abroad I wouldn't hesitate to contact them . We wanted to adopt a rescue dog. A friend recommended a Romanian dog because they are in high risk of death. I started looking at the ethics of several rescues and certainSave a Kill stands out. Save a Kill described each dog in detail, the conditionsthey were rescued from and their current conditions. We were evaluated carefully. Our dog, Poppy, was ready for the journey with all paperwork in place, all vaccines and all went smooth. We received continous support for the first months. Poppy was house trained, lead trained and she is the softest, kindest and most gentle dog I've ever had

This rescue must be the most incredible one I have ever come across. Their hearts go into the care of EVERY single dog they rescue. For my dog, they even climbed a mountain to fundraise the extra money for his care. They are so dedicated and inspirational, would always go to them for another rescue dog as I have complete faith and trust in them

We rescued a dog from the team at SAKSD back in March. This dog had been in their care for over 18 months as no one shown any interested in him. Max was found in an extremely poor condition in a kill shelter and after informing Julie that he was due to be killed the same day she was there collecting others she could not leave him behind!
Thanks to Julie and the ladies at SAKSD, Max was given a 2nd chance at life. After spending 18 months in their care being nursed back to health we took the leap to offer him a home! Max came to us after the long journey from Romania. He is Blind and was on medication to assist his health after the suffering he endured.
Fast forward to now and he has blossomed into a completely different dog. He loves his cuddles and is just the most perfect family pet we could have ever asked for! We feel so privileged to have him and the work SAKSD have done for not just him but every dog they rescue is incredible.
Always there for a chat if advice is needed and the support from their little community is spot on.

Wouldn't even consider rescuing from elsewhere.

I agreed to take a dog on emergency foster as he needed rehoming urgently.
Julie and Linda were open and honest, and everything was organised. They’ve provided back up and arranged for his new home, with me, as quickly as we could.
I met him part way, professional pet transport met us halfway and we bought him home.
Originally Bo came from Egypt. He was rescued from an appalling abusive situation. He was rehabilitated and rehomed in the UK via SAKS.
Any dog that’s been through this series of events will have some trauma, will need to decompress and will need love, support and time to find their feet.
Julie and Linda have kept in touch and they do know their stuff, they genuinely have every dogs best interests at heart. They’re also human!!
Bo is highly reactive, he’s scared. We’re working on it. Equally he’s the funniest clown, playful and incredibly loving.
I can’t see that he’s done half the things alleged against him without human interference.
Remember if you take on a rescue dog it’s also your responsibility. Do your research, speak to others, learn, take advice, and give your dog time and patience.
If I’m doubt don’t do it!
The rescue can also only provide information on what’s been witnessed during the dogs rehab/shelter. They will always be honest, they don’t want the adoption to fail, it’s further trauma for the dog.
Bo is no longer fostered, I’m keeping him.
If it weren’t for Julie and Linda I wouldn’t have found him.
I also know they’re both there for me to communicate with if I need them.
Please take a look at their beautiful dogs, they all deserve wonderful homes.

Constantly kept us updated during the time Floki was being rehabilitated in the sanctuary. Plenty of advice and tips given before and upon his arrival. The team still keep in regular contact with and check in on Floki. We highly recommend this rescue charity and the team.

Got our dog Wilma from Save a Kill Shelter Dog. Wilma was rescued from a kill shelter days old and brought to the rescue centre in Romania where she received the best care until she was ready to be placed in a home. Linda and Julie provided all the information we needed to make Wilma’s integration into our home a smoothe one for her and us. She truly is an amazing, loving, happy girl who we love and adore so much. I hate to think what would have happened had these ladies not rescued her. They are amazing ladies who put their own time into the rescue due to their love for animals. Can’t thank you enough and will continue to support your fantastic work.

Any questions I had when I got Oreo Julie was there to answer them,very helpful,Oreo wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for this brill rescue,his mum was in the Kill Shelter pregnant with 4 pups,Julie and her brillant crew got her out and Oreo was born with 2sisters and a brother,they work so hard,for all these dogs.they will go and do anything for the rescue of these dogs.Thank you to all.

We haven’t ever used this as a facility to provide anyone any review of our work so this is so lovely to see all the amazing comments. We do work really hard for each dog and we support all our fosters and adopters as best we can given we are a very small team of volunteers who have full time jobs and families. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting this shelter in person. I can rate the cleanliness, organisation, caring and compassionate staff top tier of any shelter I’ve visited.
A shelter is not the right environment for any dog and should be a last resort to save an animal from danger, abuse or neglect. SAKSD understand this so well and work without rest to rehabilitate and find homes for their dogs who’ve been saved from miserable ends. So much hard and often heartbreaking work goes on behind the scenes.

Julie and her team work tirelessly to save dogs lives . They don’t get paid for this ! All their own time spending hours to make sure dogs that are rescued are safe . Without their charity over 200 dogs would have been killed . Selfless work ! Thanks and keep up the great work !

We adopted our dog from this rescue they are always there if needed they always share videos of rescues and aftercare they are 100% dedicated to the animals and adopters and in my honest opinion 1st class rescue

We adopted Milo nearly 2 years ago and have experienced nothing but professionalism by all at Saveakillshelterdog. From the point of being rescued from a terrible death to the point of adoption the dogs want for nothing. The team have set up a network that should be emulated by every other rescue. They are friendly, helpful (providing assistance where needed) and passionate about their dogs. The suffering to the dogs that the SAKSD team have replaced with love, devotion and passion is in my view astounding and it needs to be recognised.

I can’t believe the lies I am reading from a few women who are intent on destroying this wonderful rescue! One of these women killed her dog so please don’t pay heed to their negative vile comments!
We got our wonderful dog from SAKSD in April 2023: our second Romanian rescued dog and a far better experience!
It was clear that she had been rehabilitated rather than sent straight to the uk. She accepted a collar straight away, something our previous mio did not, and was understandably tired and stressed from a long journey. We had LOADS of communication, contact, support and advise from Julie, again we did not get this last time. We knew she would need a quiet space to decompress and as we have another dog and three cats, we made her a big bed in our spare room with a safety gate, water and food, and gave her time to come to us when she was ready. We took her out into the garden every hour or so and praised her when she did her business, letting her have a good sniff around. We kept her on a lead as per Julie’s advice. Our other animals slowly approached her through the stair gate and she was fine with all of them. Slowly she started to come round to us and her new life and the 3,3,3 rule worked beautifully.
Julie was on hand for advice around the clock. She genuinely loves every single one of their babies and would do anything for them. The team are tiny but work relentlessly for their dogs and if/when we rescue again I will not hesitate in having another SAKSD (we are unable to rescue from the uk as we both work and have cats and visiting grandchildren) thank you Julie, Linda and the SAKSD team for our beautiful Moon, she is the sweetest, most loyal and forever grateful dog and we all adore her. Please, pay no heed to the vile comments of the women who Broke and killed their rescued pup, they are just hell bent on ruining the reputation of this wonderful rescue. We are still in contact with Julie now! The best RBU we have ever had, including from UK rescues!

SAKSD rescue I can’t speak too highly enough of. I got my gorgeous most special boy through this rescue and the work, love and effort they made with him like all the dogs was just simply magnificent. My poor boy was highly traumatised after the horrific abuse he suffered from the evil people who had him his first 9 years of his life, they cut of his ears, tail and beat him so badly and relentlessly he is now deaf. The work SAKSD did with him was just miraculous as the dog that turned up to my home was so ready to be loved and become a family member from the terrified, shut down dog they found in the Kill Shelter. I fall in love with this dog a bit more every day and he has the most incredible heart and soul and has so much love to give. This would not have been possible for him if he hadn’t had all the effort, love, compassion, kindness and understanding from the SAKSD team who are just so incredibly precious in the rescue and rehabilitation world. Their knowledge in this field is exemplary. If only there was more of them the world would be a better place for all dogs and all animals alike. I can never thank them enough for all they do and for my most fabulous SAKSD rescue boy, he completely changed my world for the better and I know there are hundreds like me. KEEP UP THE WORK GUYS AS YOU MAKE SUCH A DIFFERENCE.

An incredible team, genuinely care for the animals and where they go, they remain supportive even after the adoption and love to get updates. Wouldn't go to anyone else to adopt.
