Dissapointing balayage and customer service

I booked an appointment for a balayage at the Rush Harrow branch and left very unhappy with the result and the experience. The balayage wasn’t blended, there’s no soft gradient, and instead there are quite harsh, uneven sections.

The biggest issue is that large parts at the back of my hair were left unbleached, so it feels unfinished.I did mention this during the appointment, but I felt my concerns were undermined. I was also disappointed with the bottom sections. I asked for there to be a gradient look, but was told it couldn’t be achieved because of my hair thickness. I don’t feel that’s a fair explanation, especially as I paid extra for my hair type. Particularly, some of the comments about my hair volume and thickness made me feel a bit uncomfortable, and really intimidating.

I came back a few days later, the main issue of the untreated sections at the back was dismissed. While the tone was adjusted, the overall result still isn’t even close what I asked for.

It’s frustrating because my hair has now been bleached and feels damaged, but the result is still incomplete.

It’s knocked my confidence, and I don’t really feel comfortable wearing my hair down. Family and friends have noticed the uneven sections as well. At this point, I felt it is important to provide this feedback as it’s clear the service at Harrow branch doesn’t uphold the credibility of Rush.

I’ll have to find a new salon who would be willing to rectify the job, this isn’t what I expected from Rush service and the price.

I have emailed Rush on 3 occasions however have not received any response back. I have also emailed the client care department, again, with no response. Therefore I had no other choice but to leave a review.

Complaints ignored & bad service

Left multiple complaints with the Rush Hair Salon in Southampton due to a bad service I received and haven’t received a response. Do not rely on them to support if you have a bad experience.

What I came out with was not what i asked for, but results are fine. However watch for the prices as I booked a service for 135 and ended up being charged 190 for the same service.

Poor service

I booked a “permanent hair colour” service at Rush Beauty & Hairstyles in York, North Yorkshire and specifically chose a shade from the colour chart after being assured that my grey hair would be fully covered. Unfortunately, the results were very disappointing, especially considering I paid £66 for the service.

Even immediately after the appointment, a large amount of my grey hair was still visible, particularly underneath and around the hairline. I waited for about two weeks thinking maybe the colour would settle differently, but there was still no proper coverage and very little noticeable change to my hair overall. Parts of my under hair appeared completely untouched.

My natural hair is jet black, and if the stylist was unsure how to achieve the result or cover the grey properly, I would have appreciated honest advice before the treatment instead of being told it would work. The service itself also felt rushed, with very little communication or customer care throughout the appointment.

I feel misled by the description of the service and disappointed with the overall result and professionalism. Sadly, I would not return based on this experience.

Thoughtful consultation and brilliant hairdo…

I was traumatised by having an appalling hair colour experience at a Redhill salon that left me at 78 yrs old with bright purple hair instead of the required red. Maddie and the team were able to advise a course of action to tone down the vivid unwanted disaster.
Today Maddie was able to advise and carry out a new colour and trim that gave me back my Oomph and confidence. I left the salon walking on air. Thank you.

Never again using Rush Maidenhead

I had an appointment at 1PM today in Maidenhead & not very happy
Not only had to wait half an hour. Had to change my plan ( decide to only do colour & dry in the end) Did not like the excuse she provide ( is not the first time) Blowdry was awful & quick ( true I gave the time 3PM but was 2.25 & she only need wash & dry)
Last & believe is the top. She give me product & cloth to clear colour from the forehead & told me is normal not in a nice way Totally unprofessional staff

Took my mother in law to have her hair…

Took my mother in law to have her hair cut today she's having a rough time of it at the moment but by the time she left she was walking on air.
All the women in there were so friendly and helpful, Julia made my mother in law feel like a queen she washed,cut and blow dryed her hair to perfection. I couldn't recommend this hairdressers enough. Thank you.

Over charged for cut & colour

Had hair coloured and cut, asked prior to paying why the 50% off colour offer had not been applied and was told offer was not on despite it being all over the website that it clearly was.

In addition, was charged for a cut & blowdry by senior stylist when hair was blow dried by front of house and not the stylist themselves.

Raised twice with rush customer care via email and no response!

Message for Rush customer services: if you do respond to this review kindly reply to the emails I have already sent as well rather than asking me to email you again!

I am very dissatisfied with the service…

I am very dissatisfied with the service provided by RUSH HAIR LAKESIDE. I have not received any response, despite multiple attempts to contact them. Additionally, the service from the manager, Jade, was unsatisfactory. Following my appointment, I experienced significant hair loss. I usually have my hair colour done regularly at other salons, but I decided to try RUSH HAIR this time, and I found their products and service to be substandard. Several areas were missed during the colouring, leaving visible grey hairs. I have attempted to raise these concerns via email, but I have yet to receive any response, even though more than three weeks have passed.

Rush reigate

The manager needs to learn how to cut hair!! My usual girl wasn't in so had a different one ,she had no idea of my colour as there was no note of that saved on my file
So that wasn't right ok not her fault,
Then cut didnt sit right at back but couldn't really tell till got home so called next day as was expensive i wasn't happy .
Was told to come in and the manager Nicola would happily correct it,
She was extremely rude to me,I felt like a inconvenience
Didn't really explain what she was doing clearly making a huge cutting error and continued to carry on cutting , she had ruined my hair i cant even wear it down,
Its completely uneven far from a style , and I have chunks missing my hair was so thick its now thick on top and strands at the bottom , she's ruined my hair and confidence,
So distraught as will takes months to grow out this choppy short layers resorting in having to spend lots of money on hair extentions, I will never be using this place again!. After reading some reviews this clearly isn't a one off experience.

Very poor service and follow up



I had a very disappointing experience at Rush Hair & Beauty Brighton last Saturday .

I arrived with a clear reference image for a balayage colour and cut. The initial result was quite far from what I had asked for, so it was redone during the same appointment. Unfortunately, even after the second attempt, the outcome was still not as requested — the colour ended up looking more like a block colour rather than the softer, blended balayage effect shown in the picture.

More concerning was the handling during the blowdry. My hair became caught in the hairdryer twice, which was both uncomfortable and distressing. This should simply not happen in a professional salon environment.

I did raise my concerns while I was there, but after spending over four hours in the salon, I felt exhausted and just wanted to leave, so I paid and followed up afterwards instead.

What has been particularly disappointing is the response to my complaint. While the salon has offered a “rectification” , they have refused to provide a refund under any circumstances, citing company policy. Given the experience — especially the distress caused during the appointment and the fact that the result did not match what was agreed — I do not feel comfortable returning for further treatment.

I fully understand that salons prefer to correct work rather than refund, but there needs to be some flexibility when a client has lost trust in the service and does not feel safe or confident returning.

My recommendations:
• Ensure all staff are trained to a high standard in terms of listening skills and technical training . Greater care and attention during styling (particularly with tools) is essential
• Clearer alignment with client expectations before and during the service would help
• And most importantly, a more customer-focused approach to resolving complaints would make a significant difference

Overall, this was not the standard of service I expected, and the handling of the complaint has left me even more dissatisfied.

I am writing to say what appalling customer service you provide.
Last Wednesday 25th March I telephoned your branch and spoke to a woman and I explained that I want to go my natural grey colour and get the box dye out.
She said "OK you will need to come in for a consult and a strand test
If you come in on Sunday around 11am I can do this."

So today at 11am I drove for 20 miles to come to Maidstone to speak to her and was to book an appointment after the consultation.
I spoke to the junior and explained the above and she looked confused, anyway ( and I have a witness) she asked the 2 stylist/ colourist a female and a male if they spoke to me.
This was in full view of 3 customers and these 3 staff.

The female with red /coppery hair said " oh yes that was me, I am far too busy, I can't do it" to the junior.
There was no apology, no offer of an alternative just I'M NOT DOING IT.

This is disgusting customer service and I will not be spending my £500 + at your salon as I need several appointments and a cut.

Instead I will use a rival salon.

I will also leave a review on your portal and share on all my media outlets asking my friends to share also so that I get coverage to as many people as possible.

You have a good day as I most certainly haven't

Regarding full head highlights

Regarding full head highlights:
First time I went there, my hair turned out exactly how it wasn’t meant to. I came back for fixing - I was expected to pay an additional charge on top whilst getting hair sorted. (More damage done to hair).
Second time - I booked with a senior but a different hair dresser (seemed with the lower prices did my hair as I checked her prices online). I raised this. The senior only did the top partition bit. And on top they died half of my hair and there was a massive gap in between - noticeable.
I raised this and senior said I could come back after a week for fixing. I never went back.

The third time I got my hair done in a different salon and the hair dresser mentioned my hair was half coloured and there’s a gap and then my pre high lightened hair colour and asked who did my hair and I said Rush. She was surprised with what the hell has been done here.

After these experiences, I’m reluctant to go back there because it’s expensive and neither do they their job properly. I needed a regular hair dressers but here, they have let me down and upset me.

Please note: There were three dates in a space of a year. I will put today’s date (which is not the date I’m referring to)

I was a little bit nervous

I was a little bit nervous , but soon as I met my stylist Annie , my nerves went . She was so sweet and lovely she made me feel at ease straight away . I walked out of that salon feeling a different person . My hair was such a mess and she helped me decide on what would be good for me . I was blown away with the results . Thank you for an amazing service . Made my Mother’s Day xx also the apprentice who washed and put a conditioning treatment on me was the cutest young lady . WOW!!!

I went to their salon in Stratford and the wonderful Tom did my hair... OH MY GOD!! I have never been happier with my hair! it turned out absolutely perfect and Tom was such an angel. I dont normally leave bad reviews but…

I dont normally leave bad reviews but do strongly feel I have been robbed by paying £160+ on half balayage(!). If it was full balayage or half head of highlights I would understand but I had like less than 10 foils in my hair!!! Although staff were friendly and I had done exactly what I wanted but really not worth £165. And tried emailing and messaging over website but not heard back. Beware
