I am extremely disappointed with my experience dealing with Alexander Coghill and would strongly advise other businesses and customers to proceed with caution.
Communication has been exceptionally poor. Messages and calls have repeatedly gone unanswered, and trying to get a clear response or resolution has been incredibly frustrating.
In my experience, money owed to us following work that had been completed was not paid despite repeated attempts to resolve the matter directly. We went out of our way to accommodate the work at very short notice, completed what was requested, and then found ourselves having to repeatedly chase for payment and basic communication.
I also had serious concerns regarding the condition and cleanliness of the accommodation connected with this business. The standard I personally encountered was not what I would expect from professionally managed accommodation.
What has disappointed me most is the complete lack of communication and accountability when concerns have been raised. I have made repeated efforts to resolve matters privately, including messages and calls, and have been left feeling completely let down by the way everything has been handled.
I would encourage anyone considering doing business with Alexander Coghill or staying at accommodation managed by him to do their own research, keep records of all communication, and make sure everything is clearly agreed in writing beforehand.
I rarely leave reviews like this, but after my experience I feel other people deserve to be aware of what happened and make their own informed decision.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Booked a flat in Alexandria. Disgusting council estate with overgrown gardens, rubbish lying everywhere etc.
The flat had not been cleaned at all, beds unmade, despite arriving after check in time and actually being offered an early check in by them!!
No answer from the emergency phone number provided.
When Shona did respond to messages there was no apology or explanation. Just that the cleaner was at the launderette waiting on the linens drying.. even though this was 2hours post check in time, and the whole house needed cleaned. We left straight away and didn’t want to stay in the dump even if it did get cleaned.
Thankfully received a full refund through Airbnb.
This company has to be some kind of scam!

1. It was listed as a "cosy" house, recently renovated. It was not a house. It was a downstairs floor turned into an apartment with three bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, and bathroom, and therefore, it was noisy from the people walking on the floor above. Also, there was unfinished plaster on the walls and they hadn't been repainted over.
2. There was a reoccurring snail trail on carpet and wall (via a huge slug, we found on day 2!)
3. Kitchen door and bedroom window handles were broken
4. Bathroom door had no latch
5. No hot water as gas meter was in £3.50 debt (had to do an emergency £10 top-up)
6. Was told cleaner had cleaned in the afternoon and had checked water supply. Someone was lying.
7. Cleaner delayed due to "pot hole".
8. Sofa bed was dirty
9. Bedding smelled damp
10. Dead spider on windowsill. Mould growing on windows.
11. No bathroom or kitchen towels
12. No kitchen "essentials" as listed (oil, salt pepper etc.)
13. No thermostat to control temp which didn't really matter as the heating was not working anyway!!
15. We're all asthmatics so the dust and lack of heating made us all wheezy.

Though the host responded quickly, the only issue they resolved was providing new hand wash, as the one already there was water with bubbles, new sheets for the sofa bed (without actually cleaning the sofa) and cleaned the first lot of snail trail.
We had to figure everything regarding the boiler and gas meter out ourselves! We also had to buy more toilet roll as they didn't provide enough and they never fixed the heating even though they kept asking if it was working as though they could fix it remotely! Such a joke.

Tried to get some compensation back via Airbnb but they told Airbnb that we were lying to get a refund. Bare in mind that I had photos and videos as proof! Airbnb did give me some money back in the end but I'm not sure if that was accepted by the host or not in the end.

I cannot stress enough, AVOID.

We booked a property on the Isle of Skye via Airbnb and managed by Recharge Stays. We arrived at the property just after the 3pm check-in time to find that the house hadn’t been cleaned, the beds were unmade, and there was no fresh linen or towels. We contacted Recharge Stays and were told that the cleaner had been called away to an emergency, which didn’t explain why we weren’t given advance notice. We were informed that they would arrange for a cleaner to attend ASAP. We advised we would phone back at 4pm to check the status, at which point our calls went unanswered. We were in a remote location and there was no other accommodation available on the Isle of Skye so we had no alternative than to wash the sheets and towels, and clean the house ourselves. We followed Recharge Stays up the next morning, but did not receive the courtesy of any response. As we were checking out the next day we presumed that Recharge Stays wouldn’t bother to send out a cleaner, but the lack of any communication was unprofessional, and frankly gutless. We have been working through the refund process with Airbnb, who have been proactive and helpful. Good luck with your business. We suspect you’re going to need it.

My family and I booked a holiday rental with Recharge Stays. The experience was absolutely awful and we would not recommend dealing with them at all.
The house we rented had boiler issues which meant we had no heating and no hot water. We contacted them to let them know of this issue on the first morning as we couldn’t shower, we had to chase them the entire day before they sent someone to look at it. By 4pm they sent their cleaning lady’s boyfriend to have a look because they wouldn’t hire a plumber on a Saturday.
The issue wasn’t resolved in the end and we had to find alternative accommodation and move.
We only had a short stay in Glasgow and they ruined 2 out of the 4 days we had to visit.
The attitude of the staff on the phone is appalling and you feel they really do not care about their customers.
Beware if you book a holiday rental with them

Warning!! Never book with Recharge stays!

July 2026 we booked an apartment with Recharge stays through Airbnb.

They changed the address the day before check-in - giving us almost no time to find another place - without using the proper Airbnb change process. (The new address was further away from the city center.)

On arriving: The apartment had a really bad smell, the beds had old used sheets on them, there were a lot of dishes in the sink and there were stuff on the floor etc. When we sent pictures of this to the host they wrote: Unfortunately, we just got a notification from the city that there will be a property maintenance on this unit that's why it's not ready.

They did not help us find a functioning replacement and stopped responding.

This host is not reliable and we would NEVER book with them ever again. Don't do it if you want to be sure to have a functioning accommodation when you arrive at your destination.
