Moisture Vapor Barrier application
I hired Raz-Barry Construction to install a moisture vapor barrier (MVB) over approximately 433 square feet of concrete in preparation for a new flooring installation.
Unfortunately, I am very dissatisfied with the installation. After the work was completed, I found numerous problems, including:
• Hundreds of visible pinholes through the MVB, with many appearing to go all the way to the raw concrete
• More than a dozen areas where the concrete was left completely uncovered
• Existing concrete cracks that were not properly prepared or filled before the MVB was applied
• Mortar remaining on the concrete that was coated over rather than properly removed and prepared
• Mortar chips and debris beneath the coating, resulting in raised areas approximately 1/2" to 3/4" high
• Gouges and other irregularities in the concrete that were not patched before the MVB was installed
I have photographs documenting these conditions.
The purpose of the MVB was to address moisture concerns before installing my new flooring. Because of the condition of the installation, I am not comfortable proceeding with the flooring over the existing MVB and will now have to determine how the situation can be corrected.
My biggest concern is the response after I raised these issues. I have attempted to contact the owner, Ali Raz, regarding the problems with the installation. He has not come back to inspect the work and has not responded to my text messages or email.
I believe a contractor should stand behind their work and, when a customer identifies substantial workmanship concerns, personally inspect the installation and work toward a reasonable resolution. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience with Raz-Barry Construction.
I am posting this review so that prospective customers can make their own informed decision. I would be happy to update this review if Raz-Barry Construction addresses the problems and works with me toward a satisfactory resolution.
