I called progressive insurance a week…
I called progressive insurance a week and a half ago to tell them that I had cancer and I had lung surgery so that I would be late on my insurance so they took me off automatic payments and then they took the payment anyway that was my rent so I told the lady I needed that money. She told me it’d be 12 to 14 days and then her response to me was well. I didn’t talk to you on the phone. I didn’t make that call. She was very nasty because I was upset. It’s sad when a company as big as this they charges as much as they do can’t even go by what they tell you they’re gonna do they never took me off direct pay. That was the whole reason I called them just be careful cause if they can get you, they will….this makes me sick and stress after Major sergary ty Progressive for being the worst insurance i’ve ever had.
Cannot speak to a human...hold times worse than California DMV
Never had a claim so all I know is their pricing which is very good, but that only means something if their service is good when you have a claim. I called them to update my annual mileage and their AI said "I can take care of that for you", but pressed to get a human, said wait would be 15 to 30 mins so I used their call back feature and hung up, 3 mins later, the phone rings and I am put on hold...and hold...and hold...same short loop of sound with a message saying they care about my call and appreciate my patience. 45 mins of holding I got pissed and tried their website chat feature... 21 min wait (if you believe that)...so I keep holding finally at 56 mins on hold i decide to just let AI do it, so I hang up and call back and tell the AI who then after telling me it could take care of it, puts me back on hold for a person saying it will only be 10 mins, so after 18 mins I hung up and tried to use their website for the changes. When you changed your policy online it doesn't give you the break down of the cost impact of each changed...added rental car coverage and increased annual miles...had to keep backing out of it and changing one thing at a time to get pricing of each change... the entire thing is a F'ing joke. Now I know what to expect when I do have a claim...total inability to speak to a human over 1.3 hours of holding.
That is the worst insurance company…
That is the worst insurance company I've ever seen. I paid them more than a year without missing a payment. Then they charged me while i was outside of the country and my car was in storage. I even contacted them before leaving the country to notify them that i won't be using my car but they charged me for monthly fees.
If you want your peace, don't go with them, they even change things every day.
HORRIBLE AND UNHELPFUL CUSTOMER CARE
I created a new policy for my new car, thinking that was what I was supposed to do. I called customer care to cancel my other policy. Again, thinking this is how it goes. The woman helped me cancel my policy and set the date. She asked nothing else except whether I needed coverage for other things like my home.
The next day, while looking into things online, I was researching insurance and was reading how I actually did NOT have to cancel my original policy. I could have added the new car and simply removed the old one. This would keep my profile and not show me as a NEW customer because I opened a NEW policy.
It also could potentially provide me with a better rate. I'm extremely disappointed that the person in place to assist me further with this could not even advise me that I did not need the new policy. Are your CC reps not supposed to do what is best for the customer?
I now have a new policy that I am looking to cancel and void prior to it starting. I am shopping with other insurance companies at this time. I am also posting this to Google, Trustpilot, and social because this was a very disheartening interaction where my lack of understanding was taken advantage of. I may point this to my legal rep as well.

Just wanted to take the time to thank progressive. I was recently in a bad wreck from fainting behind the wheel. Rolled my truck 6 times! From my own research and opinions of others. I figured I'd get 17 to 22k for my truck. Progressive paid 28K plus 2K towards my medical bills and my premiums didn't even go up. When the time comes, these guys are there for you. Thank you Progressive, you've earned a customer for life.

I wouldn't leave any stars if I didn't have to but like everything else I have to for this to post! I HATE YOU PROGRESSIVE!! THIS SNAPSHOT CRAP USES UP MY BATTERY ON MY CELL PHONE. YOU MAKE EVERYTHING SO DAMN DIFFICULT! AS SOON AS I FIND INSURANCE ELSEWHERE IM GONE!! THIEF!! YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE NEEDS TO DO BETTER AS WELL. WHY SEND ME TO SOMEONE THAT CANT HELP ME AFTER WAITING 10 MINUTES TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE. YOUR INSURQNCE IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY IM HAVING TO PAY. IVE HAD NO ACCIDENTS AND BO TICKETS. YET Y'ALL LIKE TO OVER CHARGE PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU KNOW WE HAVE TO CARRY IT!
Unprofessional underwriting process and invasion of household privacy!
Progressive’s underwriting practices have become intrusive and completely out of touch. Recently, underwriting initiated an investigation into my household claiming they "found" another individual residing at my address. The individual in question is an underage minor without a driver’s license. Despite this, the representative insisted on asking personal questions about them. When I explained that I do not have authorization to share third-party personal details, the representative dismissed my privacy concerns and pressured me to proceed with the inquiry immediately.
The underlying issue seems to be that I own multiple personal vehicles. Progressive seemingly operates on the groundless assumption that owning multiple cars means undisclosed drivers must be operating them entirely ignoring that each car has a low-mileage usage profile of under 5,000 miles per year. Also, I am the only registered owner of all the vehicles!
As an insured customer with a spotless record, zero claims/accidents, and consistent on-time payments, I find being interrogated this way unacceptable. If this is standard protocol in Progressive's underwriting department, I will cancel my policy and move all vehicles to an insurer that values customer service and basic privacy. I hope a manager sees this review and does something about it. I work hard for my money I bought whatever I want to make me happy, if I have an accident claim or don't pay the bill then yes I should question it, but with my record and what they did to me, this made me think twice before I renew my policy
Simple scam. Not trustable.
07/14/26
07/14/26, they added an "excluded driver" to my policy and charged for it
08/08/26, they charged for this driver without any opportunity to avoid it (the driver doesn't live at our house and doesn't drive any of our cars).
So "Progressive" is a total scam. Will report it to my bank to refund based on non authorized charge.
So I have renters insurance that is…
So I have renters insurance that is paid for and I have auto. I have it on automatic payment so the fact that when they run the first auto payment, it notifies them if the money is not in the account, but they do not notify the customer so they go ahead and run another payment days later which is unfair to the customers because some customers have the money but forget to put it in there so instead of notifying them the first time when they get notified like hey your payment didn’t go through. We’re gonna run it again. That way we know to make sure the money is there instead of just automatically doing it twice without even notifying a customer and then can’t explain if the policy is paid or not. and when payments are automatic, why does it take so many days for it to be pulled out? People have busy lives and if something is gonna be automatically taken out then automatically take it out. Don’t wait days here if a payment is due on the 18th is the 26th and y’all can’t say if the payment is good or not that is just so unfair and if you get off automatic payments, your policy goes up $20-$30 extra.
big scam
garbage company that’s get over on unsuspecting victims, took my sister 4 months to get a settlement and by that time of course she needed the money for a new car. threw my insurance rates through the roof going from $450 for 3 cars all the way to $1,500 for no reason other than they are the insurance providers
No communication from company prior to…
No communication from company prior to doubling my rate. Then they took money from my account after I stopped auto payments AND made 2 calls to cancel my policy. Then I called to have my money refunded… and told it would gd 12 days before try could give me back the money they took from my account illegally for a policy I had cancelled?? Do Not use progressive!
Progressive claims ordeal
The claims people lied, never opened e-mails and/or refused to acknowledge receipt. It took THREE months to arrive at a settlement through the use of arbitration. This settlement was what I had said I would settle for in several unread e-mails. The arbitrator I hired used the same information I sent one month after the accident. They get one star only because there is not a lower rating. Accident happened 5/8/26 finally settled (after being lied to AND ignored FOR 3 MONTHS) on 8/10/29
They over charged me for car insurance…
They over charged me for car insurance for two years. I got the same policy and added uninsured motorist coverage to the policy with the same company progressive and saved 1200.00 dollars a year. Explain that! They are crooks and they are lucky I stayed with that company after finding out how much money they were overcharging me.
Poor Communication Turned a Simple Verification Issue into a Months-Long Dispute
Poor Communication Turned a Simple Verification Issue into a Months-Long Dispute
Review
I purchased a Progressive auto insurance policy online after receiving a 6-month quote of about $754 and immediately paid the first month's premium of $123.20. The online application accepted my information, issued my policy, and gave no indication that any additional action was required.
Several weeks later, I discovered my premium had increased to over $2,400 because Progressive could not verify my daughter's driver's license and driving history. The only notifications I received were generic "new policy documents" emails that did not clearly explain the underwriting issue or warn that my premium would increase significantly if additional information was not provided.
I immediately contacted Progressive and submitted my daughter's driver's license. I was told the premium would be reviewed, but it was never reduced. Because I no longer had confidence in the policy or Progressive's communication, I switched to another insurer after only one month of coverage. The new insurer reviewed the same driver's license information and quoted approximately $553 for six months.
After canceling, Progressive billed me an additional $595.56, despite my already having paid the first month's premium. After several months of unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter directly, I filed a complaint with the North Carolina Department of Insurance.
Following the complaint, Progressive reviewed my daughter's driving history, restored her driving experience from 0 years to 11 years, and reduced the disputed balance from $595.56, to $319.16, and finally to $20.72, which I paid.
I appreciate that Progressive ultimately corrected my daughter's driving history and reduced the balance. However, I believe this entire dispute could have been avoided with clearer communication. A simple, direct notification explaining the underwriting issue would have allowed me to resolve it immediately instead of spending months working through the issue.
Horrible insurance company
Horrible insurance company. After Years of paying for rental coverage, this company is a fraud. We had several items stolen from our apartment, when we weren't there. There was no break in. They had the keys. A police report was filed. They found every reason in the book, to not pay the claim. They are useless.
Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere
If it let me, zero stars! They have mainly 1 star for every review. Totalling a whopping 1.4 stars average. This company has too high of rates for someone who has a perfect record & been a good long time customer. Glad I never had to put a claim in, seeing what everyone says it sounds awful. And btw, your commercials are childish, they're not funny & you have way too many of them. That actually will make people not want you for insurance needs as its simply annoying. I mean maybe a couple are funny but most just ignorant & having absolutely nothing to do with insurance!! Duh! Oh & you want 48 bucks from me 🤣 you'll be lucky if I dont sue you!
Progressive insurance = SCAM
progressive is just a company you pay but they dont act like and insurance company. They dont cover you when need it and ehen you cancell your policy they take money from you
Progressive Flood insurance is garbage
I do not recommend Progressive Flood Insurance based on my claim experience after Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The claim process was extremely slow and required repeated follow-ups over many months. Adjusters changed during the process, communication was inconsistent, and additional documentation was requested long after the flood occurred. As a policyholder, I spent significant time gathering records, making phone calls, and trying to obtain updates.
What was most frustrating was the lack of clear communication regarding claim status and requirements. The delays created additional stress while trying to repair and restore the property.
Flood insurance is purchased for peace of mind during a disaster. Unfortunately, my experience was that the claim process was difficult, time-consuming, and far slower than expected. I encourage prospective customers to carefully research claim-handling experiences, not just premium prices, before choosing a flood insurance provider. Will not consider other insurance neither when their claim is delay, deny, wait for customer to die.
I find it difficult to understand the…
I find it difficult to understand the logic behind how auto insurance claims are handled. Insurance companies often explain that premiums are influenced by factors such as where you live, driving history, and other risk assessments. As policyholders, we pay premiums year after year with the expectation that our vehicles will be repaired when an accident occurs.
However, when it comes time to file a claim, the conversation often shifts to the value of the vehicle. If the estimated repair costs exceed a certain percentage of the car's value, the vehicle may be declared a total loss rather than repaired. For many customers, this feels unfair, especially after years of faithfully paying insurance premiums.
The result is a frustrating experience where policyholders may be forced to choose between accepting a total-loss settlement or navigating the complex process of retaining a salvage vehicle. While insurers have financial and regulatory reasons for making these decisions, it can leave customers feeling as though the system prioritizes costs over the needs of the people it is supposed to protect.
As a consumer, it is disappointing to pay for coverage for years only to discover that when repairs are needed, the outcome is determined more by the vehicle's market value than by the fact that premiums have been consistently paid. This creates a perception that the system is not working in the best interests of policyholders.
