I had previously attempted to…
I had previously attempted to distribute my book by having print and digital formats follow separate timelines. This meant that by the time the print book went live, the eBook would be released weeks later. As a result, the launch momentum would have already dissipated by the time the digital format went live. NYT Distribution handled both formats simultaneously and as a result, I launched them both to go live the same week. As a result, readers who preferred to read physical copies had the option of purchasing them immediately, while readers who preferred to read eBooks were able to download them straight away too. The launch was coordinated in a way that none of my previous attempts at distribution had been. My friend who only reads on his kindle downloaded the book the same day that my colleague picked up a paperback copy from a local bookstore. The difference in early sales figures were notable.
