From day one, visiting the Haon showrooms in Bedford, I was met with the most pleasant, friendly and personal contact. Incredibly helpful and informative. I changed my mind a couple of times, but that wasn't a problem.
The work started at the promised time and they finished the build ahead of schedule. I was so impressed with the respect everyone showed. I have a small space but it was kept tidy and clean. Everything was moved and tidied every night. All the staff have been courteous and friendly, working really hard and to a standard that couldn't be faulted. I can only sincerely and without any doubt recommend this company. I have not one negative point to raise. Thank you everyone at Haon.Janet

It's so hard to pick from the vast number of companies out there, but I'm so glad I went with my gut & chose MGR. It's a nationwide company but with the care & service of a smaller one, trying to build our their brand & grow. Planning my custom build at length with Jann really helped - she's super knowledgeable, gave zero sales pressure, and I got a lot of comfort visiting their 2 Surrey showroom sites. Their quote was very competitive for the extra in materials / customisation they were delivering (vs other companies that build simple flat-packed boxes). The builders were extremely hardworking & kept disturbances minimal. The end result is a super smart home office I'm proud of, that's very well insulated, and a key USP is the internal plastering they do - so I can paint it to be just like another room to my home! Well worth the spend & would thoroughly recommend this company. Finally, a few days after our build the doors moved a few mm (as they settled) which made it hard to lock - I queried this one evening and they had someone round before lunchtime the next day, so this shows it's a company that truly cares about customer service!!

From start to end this experience was a joy. Jann was happy to assist in designing a bespoke build to get the max floor space and best features for our trickier plot. When we hit a challenge to fit around our garage fascia they shared a 3-D video of approach. Their manager travelled from their northern base to the south coast to check onsite details ahead of us committing to proceed.
The quality of the build and the structure were well detailed in their build documents and the workmanship of the guys on site and the speed they have this down to is incredible. Now fully decorated, we are installed to a pottery studio space we love.

I’m not sure what went wrong for me given the previous positive reviews but I would caution anyone thinking of choosing them. Initially attentive until deposit payment made, didn’t hear from them for weeks, despite emails from me checking in. Finally got a phone call from Jonny to say sorry he hadn’t been in touch, our build slot was still very much booked but it was important to get the glazing ordered because time was running out. It was as it was being built that the disappointment started. The quality of their product is shocking. They are literally throwing them up as fast as they can. No weed membrane underneath the base, the foundation system for their base is not ground screws or rods and shoes it’s lengths of angle iron screwed to the joists set into postcrete used for fences, the exterior cladding IS the wall. The walls of the building are plasterboard inside, then insulation, then the cladding. What is the cladding…cladding? Usually you have an outer skin of OSB or something then clad over that to make it look nice. The Kingspan panel roof looks terrible from above (upstairs window etc) compared to a rubber roof (the trim around the top edge looks very clumsy when you can see how it’s put on), but it’s the one they can get up in a couple of hours. They lay the floor after the walls so that leaves gaps that go to outside all the way around the building. They are happy to charge you extra for thicker plasterboard for better acoustic performance, and extra for rockwool in the walls but are not meeting a basic threshold for good construction. There were a few other issues, an important electric spur that we paid for was not fitted, a tiny window (they insisted it must be this size) fitted where there was space for a much larger one, partition wall not built in the correct place, some other issues that I feel are symptomatic of a hurried schedule - just trying to get on to the next one.
If you like the look of their buildings, that’s all there is: some nice cladding on the outside and some nice plastering on the inside - they aren’t putting much effort/money into anything else.

After I’d explained the issues to them on the phone, I waited several months for them to get in touch and when they eventually did they denied everything they had said in every phone call and after some back and forth recently sent a solicitors letter demanding payment in full despite not having delivered what I’ve paid for.

Essentially I made every payment in a timely manner when it was requested, I supplied them with all of the information they needed and I’m at a loss as to what I could have done to achieve a better outcome. Yet I’m now facing legal action. I would have avoided them if I’d seen a review like this, I’m so disappointed.

This company is the best I have every worked with and my bar is high!! From the moment I contacted them to the moment I was handed the keys to my new garden room every aspect was meticulously and carefully managed. Not a single problem was too difficult to fix or solve. Every member of the team have client care embedded in their DNA and it totally comes naturally. The whole experience was fun, exciting and one I would recommend to everyone. 👌 👏

We now have a lovely 4m by 3.5m Cedar garden room in our garden in North Bristol. The Modern Garden Rooms service from presales through to build was excellent throughout. The presales attention to detail and responsiveness was outstanding. Clear, concise information issued by Mandy prior to build commencing meant we knew exactly what to expect before the build operation. John and Luke from the build team constructed the garden room very efficiently and speedily, keeping us informed on progress throughout as well as giving us tips on maintenance. We now have a great addition to our home space for all family members to use. Well done Modern Garden Homes for a great service end to end!

My garden room is beautiful. It is constructed to an excellent standard. I did have one issue during the process wherefore I had ordered windows on the front facing façade, adjacent to the doors, however an error was made and I did not receive the windows as requested. Nonetheless, Mandy took into consideration the mistake, and the inconvenience this caused me, and rectified the position by means of us agreeing compensation. Post sales care is important in any business. Mandy's approach showed integrity. She took into account the error the company made, and provided a solution. That is in my opinion what makes a business a success. We all make mistakes, its human nature, but it is how we address these situations and make amends to reach a high level of customer satisfaction that counts, and Modern Garden Rooms has achieved this goal. Some companies wash their hands of you after the works are complete, but Modern Garden Rooms did not take this approach, and took my concerns very seriously. I would definitely recommend Modern Garden Rooms.

Last week Bobby and Luke installed my garden room, and I just wanted to contact you and commend them on the exceptional job they did. There’s not a single aspect of the build and the process that we went through that I’m not 100% happy with, and I cannot praise the two guys enough – so I wanted to make you aware of the superb work they do, but also the way they do it.
They were reliable, friendly, extremely communicative and willing to discuss/advise on all aspects.

I am knowledgeable/capable about all aspects of the work that they had to undertake to build my garden room (I just don’t have the time to build it myself) – and I could clearly see the accuracy, care and attention to detail they took during the construction, even though it went up fast.

The standard of the build is brilliant, and the finish is top quality – but this of course is down to the people building it, and I can not fault them.
I also wanted to thank Jan for her help in the sales and organisation process.

I am extremely happy with my build, and I am now beginning the process of getting power connected to it and decorating so I can begin to use it.

The Modern garden room team have been efficient from start to finish of the designing and building of my garden room. The building team worked extremely hard, doing long days in all weathers to get the job finished. The quality is excellent and I love the design combination of composite and cedar. I can’t wait to spend more time in it!

Super happy with our garden office. MGR were incredibly flexible as we had to postpone the delivery date by months for a variety of reasons. We’ve had a couple of minor issues that needed fixing after installation (scratched glass and a jammed window) both of which were quickly resolved to our satisfaction.

All in all they’ve been extremely helpful and would highly recommend.

We chose Modern Garden Rooms based on the positive reviews and the helpful responses to our questions from Mandy prior to placing our order. Unfortunately, our build experience was horrendous. Our small (3m x 2.5m) garden room was supposed to take 4 working days to build. The start (originally 26th July 2021) was delayed by 1 week due to covid (not a big problem). However, our garden room was not completed for another 7 weeks (8 weeks total) with the rest of the delay due to a multitude of workmanship issues.

The initial build team turned up late (7:30pm) on the first day (2nd August) and did much of their work in the evenings throughout the week. The noisy works undertaken during the evenings woke our sleeping toddler and generated several complaints from our neighbours. The build team left cigarette butts and apple cores scattered around our garden which I had to dispose of. They decided to use our new white retaining wall to cut metal roofing components on which left a metal rust stain on the white wall; it took me 3 hours over several days to scrub this very stubborn stain off. Modern Garden Rooms left a large pile of construction waste next to our front door for 3 weeks.

The works were not completed by the end of the first week, so the Modern Garden Rooms team promised to complete the build the following Monday morning. They turned up late (5:30pm) on the Monday of the second week, working into the evening, and again did not complete the build. The Modern Garden Rooms team promised to return later in the week, initially on Wednesday. Having not turned up on the Wednesday, when the build team eventually answered my calls (Wednesday evening), they said that they would instead be with us the next morning (Thursday). Having not showed up for a second consecutive day (on the Thursday), the build team completely stopped answering the phone and were never seen again.

Modern Garden Rooms sent out other teams to complete our garden room (and rectify 16 snags from the original build) but this took another 6 weeks to finish over several visits. Our garden room was finally completed on 22nd September. Two separate Modern Garden Room teams failed to install sleeves to the earthing cables behind the wall sockets; this is a safety requirement. With the works finally complete, we have been offered a 2.5% (£300) discount on the build cost which does not go far to compensate us for the issues which we have experienced and the time which I have wasted dealing with the problems. The Modern Garden Rooms management told us that their build teams are self-employed and therefore they have limited responsibility for their working behaviour. I would recommend opting for another garden room company for your build.
