AVOID Michael & Sons (M&S)

After more than 20 years as a loyal customer, this has been one of the most mentally and financially stressful experiences. M&S performed defective work, failed county inspection, and did nothing to rectify their faulty, malfunctioning work.

In July 2025, a leak in my basement ceiling led their restoration team to open the drywall and discover a drain pipe installed with the slope inverted—meaning water literally had to flow upward to drain. Their own technicians confirmed it was installed incorrectly. When I reviewed my records, I found that Michael & Son installed this plumbing during my prior basement remodel. I also located the Fairfax County inspection report rejecting the work at the time and requiring the drain lines be reworked due to improper slope. (but clearly M&S didn’t).

Because this defect was never corrected, our basement suffered water damage and mold contamination. Despite providing the contract, inspection report, and documentation, the company has refused to take responsibility. After months of unanswered emails, shifting explanations, and no resolution, I’ve had to take legal action; a huge expense on top of what I’ve already paid M&S.

Extremely disappointing from a company that markets itself as family oriented and quality workmanship.

Exceptional service, friendly staff, very reliable, had my one series in with this company as it failed the NCT with high emissions, went to two other garages an they couldnt help, said it couldnt be fixed, it was no problem for the lads to fix it at a reasonable price

I really appreciate the feedback received from the inspections. The information is very useful and the technicians are extremely helpful. I really appreciate having the yearly service contract. My overall experience with the company has been excellent.

Price Gouging. Michael and Sons charged me $1,255.58 for 2 parts ($855 for an OEM board and $445.78 for a thermostat). Another reputable company "True Service Corporation" quoted me $235 for the same two parts.

Poor communication and hidden fees. Stay away from Michael and Sons Service. Called and was tried to pass off to an email address. The supervisor didn't care enough to try to remedy the situation. Had high hopes, left incredibly disappointed.

My HVAC had an electronic part short out and melt causing the fan to stop operating. The outdoor compressor still ran and caused the unit to freeze up. I shut it down and called Michael & Son services for help. They arrived and found the bad part but somehow a large company like them and they didn’t have the part. The tech came on Wednesday and said that they would call about finishing the repair (provided an estimate for the part and repairs). No call came until Monday a full 5 days without AC and multiple attempts by me to get answers from their HVAC department. I was told on Monday that they could get the part in 3-5 business days meaning I’d be without AC for even more time while waiting for them to get something that all HVAC companies should have on had as HVAC techs. They quoted me a price of $700 to fix the unit. So after all this I called a smaller HVAC company and not only was he amazed at them not having a common HVAC part that he had already on hand he found that the tech could have easily set my AC fan up to work while waiting for the missing part. We went through a whole week without AC because Michael & Son couldn’t do something a smaller company took care of in less than an hour!!! Not only that the smaller company charged only $300 parts, labor and all. Saving me over $400 from a company trying to extort me by not giving a crap, making me wait in the summer 5 days without AC then telling me to wait up to 5 more! They didn’t have the skills and inventory to do the very job they’re claiming to do. Avoid them unless your a sadist. Shame on them!
