18 months of Unwatchable cable.
For the last 18 months or so we have had almost unwatchable service because of Mediacom's inability to fix the local infrastructure around our town, technicians have come out and fixed the service temporarily but the issue has been coming from the Tap from behind our house and upstream of that Tap. This point upstream of our tap services our whole neighborhoods subdivision. %5-10 of the time the cable was completely unwatchable, %50 of the time the image was over %15 distorted, as in the image signal had degraded around %15 of the screen and audio bugs were prevalent.
We spent approximately $400 a month on the cable alone. Over 12 months thats around $4,800. For the 18 months we've had this issue we have paid over $7,200 in cable fees. We canceled our TV service with Mediacom and called to see if we could get a partial refund credited to our account, we've had this service for around 11 years now.
They offered us 2 weeks of our previous bill in compensation. They Credited our account for $283 and change. Their excuse for that amount of credit was that we had not called out tech's often enough to warrant any more compensation for service.
Mediacom has a local monopoly on anything not satellite related or we would have changed years ago. Still the only option for internet as well (unless you count dial up as internet), which we have kept.
Below is a picture of the %5-10 worst of the worst quality.

Absolutely the worst service in the…
Absolutely the worst service in the history of mankind. I sincerely believe they are part of the Mattel Toy company - no the toy company is good. You can't sign on - you can't get customer service - the internet is very, very unreliable. The problem here is it is the only service available! I am screwed because this company is HORRIBLE.
Offline at least 75% of the time.
At least 75% of the time I sign into the internet I get a warning that I am not online, I have to go through trouble shooter every time to get it to start up.
Late last year my internet went out completely and there was no service time available for over two weeks!
Their commercials about how reliable their service is are a crock! Isn't there some law about truth in advertising?
I cancelled Mediacom internet and phone…
I cancelled my internet and phone service through Mediacom on 1/11/23 and returned my equipment and paid my final bill for the billing cycle. Mediacom is still trying to bill me even after cancelling through customer service, cancelling autopay, and returning their equipment. This company charges extra for going over your "data limit" and they make you buy their premium internet package if you stream TV from the internet because all their lower data packages will not give you enough data if you use more than 1 TV in your house, use your internet for more than a few hours each day, or if you are using 4K UHD TV's. We were with them before and they tried the same thing with the continued billing like they never get the cancellation. I cancelled in plenty of time to avoid the next month's billing cycle, which they'll probably try to pull on me. This company is a scam and I am glad there are other companies out there offering internet in my area. Buyer beware; 1 star is still to high.
This is the second time I've dealt with…
This is the second time I've dealt with Medicom. We recently disconnected internet. I wanted to keep cable. I was told not a problem via phone call. When I returned the internet modem, was told I couldn't have cable WITHOUT internet service with Medicom!!! I will NEVER deal with Medicom again.
We have been a MediaCom cable customers, but no more!
We have been a MediaCom cable and internet customer in Albany, GA for over 15 years. Last year our monthly bill went from $218.00 month to over $260.00. My wife and I are retired, so we dropped the premium channels (Starz, HBO) and went to basic cable with 200 mps internet with 1000 gb data cap. This dropped the price to $227.00 mo.
This last month, Aug 2022, the price rose to $356.00 due to my wife and my streaming of Netflix and Amazon Prime. This was because we exceeded our data cap. The we got a notice that our monthly bill for the future would be $297.00 mo.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back so we changed to AT&T DirectStream, 300mps download and unlimited data for $165.00 mo. and we cancelled our MediaCom acct effective Sep 18.
Well today I get a Voice Mail from MediaCom saying I needed to urgently call them, A computer picked up, identified my account, and said I was late and my service was to be cut off. Then a real person came on the line and told me that we would be receiving $15.00 for cancelling before the end of the billing period as soon as I returned their equipment. Dumb A$$e$
No Customer Service
No Customer service skills - company wide! We had Media com for years. I thought the price was ridiculous but we don't have a choice in our rural area. I woke up to no service one Saturday. I was told that they would have to send someone out to repair. I took a day off from work to allow them into my home. They were scheduled for morning - never showed - called at 11:45 and advised it would be afternoon before they arrive.
No one seems to care that I took a day off for their problem - they could care less how long you have been with them - or how good your payment history had been. It is ridiculous!
If you have any other option - Avoid Mediacom for internet service.
They dont want new customers
They are the only cable company out here in the rural area of Alabama. Their online reps say oh yes we service your area, but then we find out they really dont. Apparently they dont want new customers because even though they have run wires up the paved road just walking distance from our home, they refuse to run any wires so that the homes off the main road could have service. If they would just service these homes, they would have so many customers leave the nightmare that is HughesNet. But hey, if Mediacom doesnt want new business, so be it.
Questionable Billng
I wasn't told this when I signed up, but the promotional offers with great prices change after one year. Exactly one year after I signed up, I received a bill that was higher. When I called to inquire about the higher rate, I was told everyone gets a rate increase after one year and there was nothing that they could do. Then they offered to sign me up for some technical support plan, which I promptly declined. Fast forward one month to today. Got my bill and not only do I have the higher rate, but I now have a service called "Xtreme Xpert Tech Advisor"! I thought this kind of billing was illegal!
I have been a Mediacom October 27, 2020
I have been a Mediacom customer since Oct 27, 2020. I now realize it was a terrible mistake to become a subscriber. In the 32 days since I have been a subscriber I have experienced 3 separate outages. I will out of service for approximately 7 days this time for a total of about 12 days out of 32. I worry that this will happen over and over again. This is not acceptable. Fortunately, I can cancel at any time. I would strongly recommend to anyone thinking about becoming a subscriber to read all of their reviews before you make a decision.
Never Showed
We a a Time for this service to show up to install the service and they never showed . They Stated that it would take Four to Six Months. And yet we still have box that this service sent us.
Mediacom WORST Customer Service
Had been experiencing numerous dropouts in internet and contacted Mediacom for help. Tech came out early April, didn’t come inside due to COVID, but concluded the primary problem was their source cable (exterior) that was very old and needed replacement and ordered a replacement cable drop. He also said the WiFi (rented from Mediacom) was also suspect, but couldn’t come in to check it. I then purchased an expensive replacement WiFi and installed myself. I also boosted my capacity speed increasing my cable fees. Observing no cable drop by May, I contacted Mediacom and was told there was a backup due to COVID with 3rd party installers, but I was in the que. Checked with them every few weeks since and got the same response, dead end. Was told 3 days ago installers would call me within 2 days - nothing.
Cable companies are making more money than ever from pandemic but this one only gives lip service, claiming they have no control over the 3rd party cable drop people. All BS. Choose another ISP.
Overpriced by far and service is horrible!…
Overpriced by far and service is horrible. They are supposed to deliver Gigabit service, but actually deliver noncontinuous 5-25 Megabit service. I know people that work there and they have told me that their service is poor because they don't update their equipment and have no plans to update it in the future. I have compared the poor service I receive with internet services available both in the U.S. and around the world. Compared to what is available elsewhere the speed they deliver and the price they charge are both ridiculous. There is 25 Gigabyte service available elsewhere for $25 a month. Their problem is not availability it is their unwillingness to update their equipment and provide comparable service at comparable prices. I've read many reviews comparing internet services available AND THEY ARE ALWAYS RATED DEAD LAST!
I am currently working from home due to…
I am currently working from home due to covid-19. I took the day off for internet installation- to be sure i was available from 1-5 on tuesday the 16th of JUNE (dispite extremely long window of service). I have 2 kids at home. At the time of the technicians installation confirmation call- was busy nursing and fumbled to get the phone. I called back immediately to no answer. The technician did not answer my return call and did not call the secondary number on file. Instead they canceled the appt and rescheduled for the following week. I gave this company FIVE HOURS of my time waiting for the APPT all day. They coudlnt give me 4 mins and answer my return calls? This is LAZY. They are saying the next available appt is not for 1 WEEK. This threatens my work-from- home employement and livelyhood. I tried to speak to customer service to give them a chance, Supervisor DAVID, only reiterated that this is customer policy. A corporate policy that allows a technician to cancel an appt after 4 MINS of waiting, is not a policy that puts the customers first. This company is clearly anti- single MOM.
Mediacom= 0☆'s…
I should give Mediacom a 0☆'s rating, but in order to write this review I had to give them a rating. So grudgingly I gave them 1 ☆.
I have not been a Mediacom customer for years because the cable service wasn't so great, and whenever I had to call customer service for any reason they were very rude. Prices aren't that good either.
The sales people continue keep coming to our door trying to sell us their products and services. Last time they showed up my husband explained to them we did not want to buy anything from them again, and asked them please to not keep coming to our home. The sales person called my husband an expletive standing at our door, and finally left. I called the company to report the unorofessionalism. They did not even apologize. They said they would check into it. Never heard back except. . .
Now they have the nerve to continually send us junk mail selling their services even when I've asked them repeatedly to take our household off their mailing list. Some of the mail is disguised by the name "Xtreme" but it seems to still be Mediacom services. I have a whole bag of it now.
Maybe I'll recycle it, or maybe I'll just show up to one of their office doors to drop it off back to them. While I'm there I could call them an expletive and then leave.
If you are considering Mediacom for any services please don't. Save yourself the hassle. Go anywhere else.
