I just read Maa’s response review to my review. Mohit Kumar WAS NOT one of the students in my program! There is, however, a Mohit K., Public Relations Manager for Maa, that responds to Tripadvisor comments.
Trust Pilot, I am sure, would be appalled to know the lengths to which this Ashram has gone to counter bad reviews and promote their business. These include positive reviews on Google Maps that were written by family and/or employees. I am wondering why TripAdvisor is not publishing my review or the reviews of some of the Ayurvedic students that had issues and were there at the same time as myself.

Trust pilot, please do not “trust” this business.

I completed the 200 hour yoga teacher training program at Maa Yoga from October 2nd to October 28th, 2107.
I thought I had researched the ashram and made an informed decision based on positive reviews and Yoga Alliance certification.
My experience was neither spiritual or educationally satisfactory. I discovered very early on that the yogi, Dr. Amrit, was more interested in talking about his past experiences with celebrities than running either his yoga teacher training or the Ayurvedic Practioner courses.
His program did not follow the Yoga Alliance standards required of a certified school. When challenged within the first few days on the shortcomings in the program (lack of properly qualified instructors, no course outline, no lead teacher assigned, classes which were held with the general Ashram population and therefore unallowable, etc.- the list goes on and on), Dr. Amrit was uninterested and dismissive of our concerns. When we persisted in our complaints, he would provide a few changes, but never fulfilled the requirements of Yoga Alliance. For example, we were required to have 65 contact hours with a lead teacher. Dr. Amrit was finally identified as our lead towards the end of the course-he gave us 0/65 allowable hours of his time (he led one meditation and two yoga sessions with the general public also in attendance). The practicum portion of the program (should have been 10 hours of contact time) was practically non existent.
I spent a great deal of time and money to do my teacher training in Rishikesh. It was a retirement present to myself and I had wonderful plans to use my training as a way of giving back to my community.
The spiritual experience I was hoping for became a frustrating, emotional and mental ordeal. I was made to feel uncomfortable and unappreciative by the owners because of my questioning about the validity of their program.
I witnessed similar distress amongst the Auyervedic Practioner students. In fact, two of us left the ashram at night to stay at another hotel for the last few days because of negative meetings and comments made by the owners.
This Ashram does not follow the basic beliefs of the Yoga they profess to teach—the yamas and nyamas of the Yoga Sutras do not seem to apply to them.
Please do not make the mistake that I made and entrust your training to this team.

Detox, yoga, Ayurveda treatment and even Bollywood dance classes made it a memorable stay. The food is good but a little more variety would have made it just perfect.

What struck me immediately was the way Dr. Amrit Raj made us feel so at home. The yoga and meditation teachers were quite good and the Staff at the Ashram is really friendly. Clean environment and clean accommodation are something I can vouch for at Maa Yoga Ashram, Rishikesh.
