Predatory Auto-Renewal Practices and Collections Threats
I strongly caution anyone considering Lumivero.
I purchased a one-year NVivo subscription as a student. Upon receiving the renewal notice, I emailed the same day requesting cancellation and explicitly asked that my card not be charged. Despite this, Lumivero refused to honour my cancellation request, citing a 30-day policy even though I had responded immediately upon being notified.
After multiple emails and a formal appeal process spanning several weeks, my request was denied. The account was subsequently sent to collections despite the charge being actively disputed.
British Columbia residents should be aware that this practice appears to violate Section 25.1(1) of the BC Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, which states that any provision in a subscription contract that provides for automatic renewal is void unless the contract allows the consumer to cancel at any time, whether before or after the renewal date, without charge or penalty. Lumivero's rigid 30-day cancellation policy directly contradicts this legal requirement. If you have experienced the same treatment, you can do so at consumerprotectionbc.ca and civilresolutionbc.ca
Additionally, as a Deaf user I found the platform lacking in accessibility, which compounds the frustration of being forced to pay for a service that did not fully meet my needs.
This experience is not isolated. Numerous other reviews describe identical patterns of aggressive auto-renewal enforcement and collections threats. Alternatives worth considering include MaxQDA and ATLAS.ti
