The literal worst rental agency I’ve ever had the misfortune to deal with and do not believe the realestate.com reviews go to product review for the real story. 3 trips to RDRV with these guys refusing to repair fixtures in the house - this is illegal and they compensated every time and had to repair! Avoid like the plague.
David Banks - Jellis Craig Hawthorn
I've known David Banks from Hawthorn for the last couple of years in a professional environment and he is an incredible person to deal with. His main focus is on matching the right buyers with the right homes, as he wants both buyers and sellers to be delighted by the outcome, rather than focusing on playing them off of each other. I highly recommend David for your Real Estate needs in the Boorondara area.
A+ Service!
Was renting an apartment through Jellis Craig based at their Hawthorne office for three years. In that time I had 3 agents that were all great, however Kaylah Kennedy was amazing! She was fabulous to communicate with and always did her best to assist me throughout my tenancy. She was warm, accommodating, friendly and easy to get ahold of. I needed to exit my lease agreement early and she just made the entire process a breeze! I've been in the rental market for a long time and I have never experienced such amazing service! I will miss having such a lovely agent!! Thank you again Kaylah. The team at the hawthorn office were perfect from start to finish.
Deaf Ears
We purchased a house whilst living abroad. Sellers agent was Jellis Craig. We agreed to rent house using Jellis Craig. We paid Jellis Craig rental commissions for over 10 years. We constantly informed to conduct annual inspections with a family member. Jellis Craig opted for their own approach by conducting it themselves. We threatened them multiple times to listen to us or lose the business. We advised Jellis Craig on many occasions the house and gardens were were not being maintained to a satisfactory standard. Each time we were advised the tenants were wonderful. We had to point out that smashed kitchen tiles, broken kitchen draws, holes in curtains, damaged carpets, pests in the roof and significant garden overgrowth, trees dead as they would not water, blocked drains - all indicators of inadequate care. We believe Jellis Craig willfuly withheld information on damage from us so as not to inflame tensions with the tenant. When the tenants finally left, Jellis Craig stated the house was fine. They gave us the tired old line that any damage was fair wear and tear. Tenants did not clean a window, mow lawns, replace dead plants, clean oven, clean curtains, etc. we were advised by Jellis Craig as landlords we could not do anything. If we went took tenants to VCAT we would lose. Everything we said to Jellis Craig fell on deaf ears. We can only assume Jellis Craig did not give a damn. They only wanted their commission and were prepared to do nothing meaningful. Our biggest regret was persisting with Jellis Craig. We should have dumped them years ago. Jellis Craig were less than supportive. When we persisted on the damage and opted to go to VCAT we received some small compensation from the tenants. Jellis Craig claimed they “pulled off a miracle” negotiating the small sum of compensation. I can tell you, this comment fell on deaf ears. I should have listened to my instincts years ago.

Real estate agents: unethical
Very unhappy with the rental experience. They listed a rental property in August 2020 and we were accepted as tenants, indicating we were interested in a longer term lease as we are a family of 4 with 2 young children. Within about a day of moving in, the neighbours informed us that the landlord is a 95yo man, who just moved out into a nursing home. You don't need to be stupid to realise that uncertainty right there and then. We lived for 9 months in dread, and received notice that the property was intended for sale. Overall, our situation confirms the terrible ethics of the real estate profession and knowing what they knew, it was highly unsuitable to enter a young family into that rental agreement without letting them know of the potential risk. Physical, emotional and financial stressors involved with moving homes is nothing to sneeze at, it takes a big toll on the family and can destroy them too.

I am delighted to recommend Jellis Craig - Hawthorn and in particular Richard Winneke, Joscelyn Creese and the auctioneer Campbell Ward. They were all a delight to work with and were all very professional, keeping me up to date with the progress of the sale/inspections each week. The property eventually sold to my delight well above the reserve.

THE RIGHT DECISION
We made the right decision in selecting Jellis Craig Hawthorn to sell our villa unit. Their presentation from the outset was professional, friendly and comprehensive. Communication was excellent - any questions we had during the sales process were answered promptly and knowledgably and we were kept up to date regularly during the marketing campaign. The end result was that the final auction price considerably exceeded our expectations. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending Jellis Craig to other prospective vendors!

We enlisted Campbell Ward to market our family home during the challenging period of Covid. Throughout the process Campbell provided us with exceptionally professional and honest advice on how to market and manage the campaign. Campbells understanding of the demographic of our suburb, his buyer pool and current markets allowed for the negotiation of a sale, at our optimum price, before going to auction. Without hesitation we would highly recommend Campbell as an expert in his field.

Exceptional service and a great team.
We worked with David, and Simon and the Jellis Craig Team for the sale of our home in Surrey Hills. Throughout the sale process, there was excellent communication with our family as vendors, sound advice on possible tweaks and changes to the sales campaign, maturity in dealing with bumps along the way that were encountered, and helpful connections with services such as property stylist advice which really helped us to present our property well. Accurate pricing and ethical communication with potential buyers was top of mind for us (also having been buyers and understanding the frustrations at that end) and we feel that both David and Simon represented these interests very solidly. Having access to a team member with additional language skills, also assisted in connecting with buyers more comfortable conversing in Mandarin.
We were extremely happy with the auctioning style and outcome from Simon - his kind, relational, warm, and less pushy auctioning approach with potential families wanting to purchase our home, truly brought out the best in the buyers on the day, pushed up the price, and exceeded our expectations. David's support on auction day, made it a really smooth, and much less stressful process than it could have been.
We have also had exceptional after sales support from David, and can't speak highly enough about his relational, warm, down to earth way of relating with our family. We have been really grateful for that. Thank you so much to the Jellis Craig team!

Our experience with Jellis Craig, Hawthorn was near perfect. Their staff (specifically David Banks and Simon Lord) were extremely knowledgeable about all the processes, end-to-end. They were always clear in their communications and in our opinion honest, to a fault. They set our expectations and had a great knowledge of the myriad regulations. They were friendly, personable, professional and available at all hours. The JC office and Team are well regarded (which was reassuring throughout the campaign). We has a great sale result - sure timing played a part, and we as vendors contributed - but all of the above factors contributed immensely. Recommend highly

A great experience and a great result
The professionalism and attention to detail that David Banks provided, exceeded our expectations at every step. The entire experience was geared towards ensuring we achieved the best possible outcome with the sale.
