I actually left the gym mainly because of the very rude female janitor who does the night shift. Every time she would see me she would look at me up and down even though I would smile at her. After some time I just stopped smiling at her and when she would see me in the sauna or taking my clothes off she would stare at my body. She would look at me up and down then stare at my belly it was like she wanted me to feel bad and self conscious about myself.

I brushed it off the first few times until it began happening every time she was seeing me. She saw me and my mum (she knows we shower there) she closed off most of the showers so we could not use the other 4 at the end. Then when I went in after my workout she comes around the shower area just to look at me. Pretending to clean when she was just stood there staring at my body. She would just stare at me up and down all the time and I got sick and tired of it so I canceled my direct debit. Dont need to deal with this type of energy in the gym.

When I used to shower she would start cleaning the shower next to me and would wash over the water in the other shower onto my feet. When I would get changed in the separate cubicles she would begin brushing up the floor and throwing the dust onto my feet just outside the cubicle I was in. I felt like I couldn’t defend myself because that is what she actually wanted an excuse to fight me. It became apparent after repeated interactions being the same she had a problem with me and my mum.

I felt extremely harassed by her. She had a thick Nigerian accent so I was finding her difficult to understand but she would shout at us and get us out of the changing rooms by 12am. She would also be talking very loud on the phone too and it would disturb my shower ritual and quiet sauna time. She seems like the type of person who uses their job role to intimate and bully people.

Now reflecting back I think this janitor had some sort of prejudice towards us. I cant help but think that although I dont want to. I cant think of what I have done to her for her to be like that because I was a paying customer just minding my own business. My mum mentioned she got similar stares of her but this woman was targeting me way more than my mum.

If this gym changes a few things around I may consider coming back one day but like I said if you shower at the gym and workout late at night you have to rush out before 12am otherwise you will get screamed at by the janitor. You would think because it is a 24hrs gym that you have access to all facilities during all hours of the day but the changing rooms close at 12am as does the top part of this gym at 10pm. So you really can only use the bottom part of the gym.

The weights area is also so tiny and very overcrowded most of the time so you have to wait to use a machine. The machines are either broken down, torn up or some old machine. Many of their treadmills were out of service too.

The showers are so bad too because you have to keep pressing the button for the water to come out only to get a little stream and I can hear many others get annoyed with the showers so I think this is done on purpose so people dont use the water. However it is a good way to get members to leave and join elsewhere.

Also JD gyms are very stubborn in extending the parking for their members. You only get 3 hours which considering the fact that its in a retail park you can only use the gym and then have to rush out right away. I want to do shopping there too but cant because I dont want to get a ticket. I've also heard many people complain about this exact same issue and how JD Gyms wont really do much about it. They are set in their ways of 3hrs no extension so good luck trying to convince them otherwise.

There is also a very rude staff here called Wasim who could not help himself but give me dirties every time he saw me. I ignored it and I asked him for help once (since that is his job) and he was huffing and puffing and rolling his eyes because he clearly finds basic kindness and doing his job very hard to do but started being friendly with other male members as soon as I walked away from him. I thought maybe I was overthinking the dirty looks thing but this interaction with him confirmed he had something against me. He found it so funny that he was being rude that he began laughing to himself as I walked away in distress. Dont know why someone would find that funny but he does. People are paying this man and this is how he is being with random people he doesn't know. Cant imagine what he must be like with his paying clients.

A bunch of bullies work here. Which should not be the case the gym is recommended if you have mental health issues and then having to encounter people like this is a real shame. I dont want this happening to others, but a bully is a bully. My advice. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Good but showers smell bad and other things are fine

The gym has a good space for classes and cardio equipment, but the weight training equipment is outdated and poorly positioned within the space.

Gym poorly laid out and ever crammed in. Old equipment and dirty gym.

You really need to invest in some new equipment, everything is old and falling apart

I used to love this gym however after recent visits there is much to be desired.
The classes are great, however it can be unreliable at the salford one, going to the gym for a class to be cancelled is awful. A lot of the equipment are now worn but what has caused me to cancel the membership is the use of the saunas. There is now a culture of women going to the sauna fully clothed in their gym wear even trainers and it is so gross!
I have written to management about it advised a significant goes up on the door but nothing has been done and it has gotten worse if anything.

Thank you for the reply, as suggested in an email sent previously, you really should consider putting up a sign that goes on the door about outdoor wear in the sauna, as well as the longer more detailed signed already on the side which gets ignored with regard to sauna etiquette, I have seen similar at NRG whereby it is much better potentially because it is harder to ignore.

Too busy, equipment is everywhere and machines cramped together. The weights section is an absolute mess. Awful gym experience, cancelled membership immediately.

It was my first time at the gym. It was really nice, a little bit crowded but I didn’t have a problem finding machines to work out. What bothered me was no soap in the toilet sinks. They were empty!!! Other than that were all good 👍🏻.

Local gym equipment was terrible and the changing rooms were closed. App is borderline useless and customer support is genuinely non existent. Cancelled my membership and it told me it could take UP TO A MONTH to process and they can charge you for the next month in this time? Happened to me last time I was with them but wanted to give them another try, was not worth it in the slightest

The bathroom smelled of urine and was unkept, I am hoping my second visit will be better.

Pros:
- size of the gym
- friendly staff
- range of equipment/machines
- classes included

Cons:
- dirty and messy, frequently see weights not put back, empty water bottles and food packets around, sometimes used gum and nicotine pouches are left on equipment - this is due to a domino effect from others thinking that the staff can clean up after them
- the pipes in the changing rooms/bathrooms have an odour

Overall, it has lots of potential but I think they need more support from the company to maintain the cleanliness. Members who are caught contributing to leaving mess/not putting equipment back should get a warning or a ban because it is being treated like a dumping ground.

It is also due a refurbishment to match the standard of the JD gym in town.

The women’s changing room and the gym areas are very dirty. I can’t find anything I’m looking for because everything is so messy — the equipment needs to have designated places.

Quality gym loads of good equipment and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

hopefully it dies down after the usual january rush for health (but i'm not holding my breath as demand for gyms is skyrocketing) but it's too busy at the moment, even during the "quieter times."

other than that, it's pretty good, well equipped, good facilities.

would be useful to have a feature in the app that tracks and tells you how busy the gym currently is so you can wait to go at a better time when it's not so busy.

waiting around for free equipment isn't great, especially considering that's why i switched gyms in the first place

The gym is very well equipped. However, it's constantly busy. Even during the "quiet times" it's so busy I need to wait for the equipment to become free

Hi, I just move from manchester JD gym to saldford. The bad thing is that the lady shower room is too smelly ,can you make sure clean it probably.

I like everything, except for the WiFi that has no bandwidth at all. I need it to run my training app. That’s a shame.
