Gastric bypass
Prior to undergoing this surgical procedure, I engaged in discussions with numerous clinics and coordinators. However, there was something uniquely reassuring about Mustafa; his demeanor, his communication, and his overall approach immediately put me at ease and made me feel comfortable. Following that initial conversation, I made the decision to proceed with my surgery at IOC.
The entire process was remarkably smooth, from my airport pickup to meeting Dr. Kenan and the rest of the hospital staff, all of whom were truly exceptional. Mustafa also extended his care to my husband, ensuring he felt comfortable and providing reassurance that I would be well after the surgery. The nurses were wonderful; although they did not speak English, Google Translate proved to be an invaluable tool. They were incredibly gentle and helpful, and I honestly believe I could not have chosen a better place for my surgery. Dr. Kenan is an excellent surgeon, possessing over 20 years of extensive experience, and I would highly recommend him to anyone. I also wish to express my gratitude to the translator at the hospital, whose name I regrettably cannot recall, but who was incredibly supportive and helpful. Thank you all for such an amazing experience; should I ever consider any future cosmetic surgery, it will undoubtedly be with your team.

The best hospital for bariatric surgery…
I cannot recommend this hospital highly enough. From the moment I arrived, the entire experience was professional, organised, and reassuring. Every member of staff I encountered was kind, caring, and genuinely invested in my wellbeing.
The surgeons, nurses, and support staff took the time to answer all of my questions and made sure I felt comfortable and informed throughout the process. The care I received before, during, and after my gastric sleeve surgery was exceptional, and I always felt that I was in safe hands.
The facilities were clean, modern, and well-maintained, and the level of attention given to patients was outstanding. Recovery support was excellent, with staff regularly checking on me and ensuring I had everything I needed.
Having now started my weight loss journey, I am incredibly grateful for the life-changing opportunity this surgery has given me. Choosing this hospital was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone considering bariatric surgery.

I had my gastric sleeve on the 25th May 2026 and the whole experience was great. I was well looked after, the hospital is spotlessly clean and all the staff are amazing! Google translate was a huge help and the surgeon is awesome so friendly and helpful. The team have been on hand since I have been back home and are always there to answer any questions I have had! So glad I choose to go here and I wouldn't go anywhere else again! Thank you all so so much for changing my life!!

From Australia to Turkey for a new life
When I made the decision to travel from Australia to Istanbul to have the gastric sleeve surgery I made an enquiry with Istanbul Obesity Center. I was immediately made to feel not just like a patient but part of a very special family. Leading up to my departure date the communication was on point. I coupled my trip with dental work for both myself and my husband and the coordination was second to none. Mustafa, our coordinator, instantly made me feel like family and a strong trust was built. To go to another country and have someone speak on your behalf for such a vulnerable surgery can be such a scary thing to do. However Mustafa made sure I felt comfortable, safe and heard. Last year
Last year, I decided to get a gastric balloon and after doing some research, I chose Istanbul Obesity Center. Looking back, I consider it one of the worst decisions I’ve made.
At the beginning, everything went smoothly. I traveled there, bought my flights, and paid around €2,900 in total including travel expenses. They told me the procedure would not be painful, although I understand that may depend on the person. Personally, I felt extremely unwell on the first day after the balloon was inserted.
I do want to mention that Mustafa was very helpful throughout the process. He translated everything clearly and treated us well.
Unfortunately, I did not see many results from the gastric balloon itself, but that part can happen and I eventually decided to try other methods.
What truly disappointed me was the removal procedure.
My appointment was scheduled for 9 AM, but when I arrived, the doctor apparently was not even there. They placed me in a room where I waited from 9 AM until midday without proper communication or updates.
When they finally took me into the procedure room, the experience became even worse. The nurses did not speak English and made no effort to communicate with me as a patient. After preparing the room, they spent their time laughing, making video calls, talking among themselves, and drinking tea inside the operating room where my balloon was about to be removed. I found this extremely unprofessional and unacceptable for a medical environment.
After the procedure, they placed me in another room and essentially left me there alone. I had to walk back by myself to find my mother afterward.
Overall, I was very disappointed with the level of professionalism and patient care. Mustafa was kind and helpful, but the behavior of the nursing staff seriously damaged my trust in the clinic. Unless these issues are addressed, I personally would not recommend Istanbul Obesity Center to others.

We are glad to hear that Mustafa was helpful, translated everything clearly, and supported you well throughout the process.
However, we would like to clarify a few important points for fairness and accuracy.
First, we do not agree with the impression that we did not try to support you. Both you and your mother had gastric balloon procedures with us, and because you came together as two patients, we offered a special discount to make the treatment more affordable.
Even after you returned to your country, when your mother experienced some concerns, we continued to assist you. We reviewed her test results, discussed the situation with our doctors, and provided guidance from a distance. So it is upsetting for us to read that you felt unsupported, because our team did make an effort to help both you and your mother.
Regarding your balloon removal appointment, you contacted us only one day before and requested to have your balloon removed the very next day. Although this was very short notice, we still arranged an appointment to prevent any inconvenience and support you as quickly as possible.
On the day of removal, there was a delay because the doctor was performing a cancer surgery, which unfortunately took longer than expected. This was an unforeseen medical situation, not a lack of planning or care. We fully understand that waiting is frustrating, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. However, you were informed about the reason for the delay on the day.
Regarding discomfort after balloon placement, the first 24–48 hours can be difficult for many patients. Cramping, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and general discomfort may happen while the stomach adapts to the balloon. Some patients tolerate this period more easily, while others feel it more strongly depending on individual sensitivity.
You also mentioned spending around €2,900 in total. To clarify, your treatment package with us was €1,200 for a 12-month gastric balloon, and this was already a discounted offer. Flights and personal travel expenses vary from person to person and are not part of the clinic fee.
Regarding your comments about the nurses, the room used for balloon removal is an endoscopy unit, not a surgical operating theatre. While the doctor was delayed due to the ongoing surgery, the nurses were waiting in the endoscopy unit and preparing the room. Staff may remain in the room while waiting for the doctor and may communicate among themselves during preparation time.
That being said, we understand that, as a patient feeling anxious before a procedure, this may have seemed uncomfortable or unprofessional. Even if there was no intention to make you feel ignored or disrespected, medical staff should always be mindful of how their behavior may be perceived by the patient. Your feedback on this point has been noted and will be reviewed internally.
As for communication, not all nurses speak English, which is why we provide interpreter support for our international patients. If there was any discomfort, concern, or question before or after the procedure, our translator or patient coordinator could have supported you immediately.
We are honestly saddened that you felt disappointed enough to leave such a negative review. We wish you had contacted Melissa or our team directly at the time, because we would have done our best to understand your concerns and find a solution.
We respect your opinion and your feelings, but we also wanted to provide the full context. We supported both you and your mother before, during, and after treatment, including a special discount and medical follow-up support after you returned home.

Where do I start I was so scared about going abroad for surgery and I cancelled twice but not once was I ever pushed to go mustafa deserves a medal for me and my 50000000 questions but I eventually went for it and from being picked up at the airport to getting to the hospital late at night and mustafa was there to welcome us, given the time I was expecting him to be at home like other companies mentioned but no he likes to be there to welcome patients which is very nice, and reassuring, everything went to plan with my surgery dr Kenan the surgeon is a lovely man he’s reassured me I was an easy job lol and you don’t even realise you are being put asleep 😴 when I woke I had bad gas pain which is to be expected so I walked straight away and it was away within 24hrs, you will be supplied with everything you need while there iv painkillers etc, my surgeon visited me everyday after my surgery which was good to check incision sites etc ,I left on the early hours of Monday morning so I didn’t go to a hotel I did have the option to but there was no point anyway my transfer arrived literally 5 mins early and of to the airport we went it’s been over 2 months since my surgery and I’m over 2 stone down, the language barrier was no problem either we had a right laugh trying to work things out before we resorted to google translate 😂 mustafa is amazing and will answer any questions you have he will also be in and around the hospital and if he’s not and you need him he’s just a msg away and he will come immediately, he’s been in contact with me from I came home and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this clinic to anyone 🙂

Fantastic service all round from start to finish ,Mostafa made me feel at ease even though I was in a foreign country .I landed at Istanbul and was driven directly to a hotel as my plane was delayed, and I couldn't go directly to hospital.lots of communication ,then the next morning was taken to hospital .my personal proceedure was 20 minutes and then I was taken to my 5 star hotel by mustafa himself picking up my medication on the way ( This hotel was my own booking ) 10 am the following morning i was picked up by a taxi punctual to the time for my return journey to the airport .ive no idea how he manages to reply to so many queries and install so much trust .hes an incredible human being ( respect )thank you for everything 🙏 and for the after care with so patience and understanding

Very good experience
I’m not really good writing reviews. This one be easy. Everyting went according to a plan. Everyone was very helpful, answered every detail of your questions and even the staff did not speak English, there was always someone who will translate for you or the nurses took a phone out and translate it for you. Medically, when something is not right, they know what to do and no need for communication. If you seeking for 5* hospital accommodation - it is not, but it’s clean, and have all what you need. You won’t eat, you will be recovering with amazing staff who is always there for you, smiling, and happy to assist. If I would be in different place - let’s say very posh hospital - I would not be able to do any more, than over there.

Had the best experience with this clinic. Mustafa was 100/10 at his job. From day 1, he made me feel super comfortable with everything and the procedure and even advised me on everything. He was forthcoming with information at all times. When I landed, he quickly answered his phone and arranged for transport to come and get me. I stepped into the hospital and he was already waiting for me. Excellent customer service. The hospital was great too. I had an awesome team working day & night to make sure I was okay. Even with the language barrier, my needs were attended to. They encouraged me to walk to feel better. Always with a smile on their face! My surgeon came to see me more than once during this time too. Best experience so far. So much support esp coz I came by myself.

My sister and my self had the gastric…
First off Melissa was absolutely amazing , nothing was too much for her but personally I think she’s working for the wrong people. My sister and my self had the gastric sleeve. The level of care wasn’t great , fine up until you had the operation and was left to fend for yourself . Hospital wasn’t the cleanest in my opinion. Language barrier was definitely a problem with the nurses and every so often they would talk and laugh while looking at you , which made me uncomfortable . With other hospitals you are given medication and protein shakes within the price . We were given nothing and had advice from a different hospital on what we SHOULD have been given . My brother had the gastric balloon which was put in with a stomach ulcer . That was a big NO NO but we wasn’t to know as the information was not given to us there . He was going to have the sleeve but was terrified as you can imagine it’s a big operation. The surgeons came in calling him a chicken and doing chicken noises and impressions ( very unprofessional ). And on having the balloon removed yesterday after just 8 days, one of the medics basically said it was over inflated hence why he was in constant pain and constantly vomiting. Mustafa on arrival had his son with him but yesterday when my brother in law had it out he came with his wife and child to collect payment (again not very professional) all after having my gastric sleeve he came into my room with another lady who was about to have it done without asking me to tell her how easy it was etc which I didn’t find very professional AGAIN. It seemed a case of you’ve paid and we have done what we needed to do and then the care was bare minimum. Also my sister has a latex allergy an was wearing a red band to show nurses there was an allergy, which then resulted in my sister having a severely swollen hand for two days as they used latex on her. Which could have been a lot more serious. No gloves were worn when they were changing my IV . Blood was seeping in to the IV and I was looked at like an inconvenience. I won’t be recommending to anybody …..
Last Friday before leaving Istanbul to come home , Mustafa told us that the balloon removal would be 250GBP as we were already clients of the hospital , but we were told 445GBP including one night in the hotel , when he asked Mustafa about this before removal yesterday , Mustafa brushed it off and said Melissa deals with finance and took the 445 and went .

Any behavior that causes a patient to feel disrespected, anxious, or uneasy is taken extremely seriously. Your comments regarding staff behavior, communication style, and professionalism have been escalated to hospital management for internal review, as this does not align with the standards we expect from our partner institutions.
Regarding post-operative care, medication, and nutritional support: treatment protocols and inclusions can vary depending on the procedure, clinical findings, and hospital policy. That said, we acknowledge that clearer communication should always be provided so patients fully understand what is included, what is medically required, and what may differ from other hospitals. If expectations were not properly managed, we take responsibility for that gap in communication.
The concerns you raised about language barriers are also valid. Patients should always feel understood and reassured, especially in a medical environment. Interpreter support is intended to prevent exactly this kind of discomfort, and we regret if it was insufficient at any point during your stay.
Latex allergy awareness and hygiene protocols are matters of utmost importance. We are very sorry to hear about the reaction your sister experienced. This feedback has been treated as a priority and shared with the relevant medical teams, as patient allergies must always be handled with strict caution.
Concerning the gastric balloon and its removal: all procedures are carried out following medical evaluation. However, we understand your frustration regarding the information provided and the distress this situation caused. Pricing for balloon removal can vary depending on urgency, hospital involvement, and whether accommodation is included. While there was no intention to cause confusion or discomfort, we acknowledge that the situation could and should have been communicated more clearly.
We would also like to acknowledge your positive words regarding Melissa’s initial support. We are sorry that the level of care you experienced later did not consistently reflect the same professionalism. Continuity of care is something we actively work on improving, and feedback like yours plays an important role in that process.
We want to be very clear: we do not consider patient care to be “finished” once a procedure is completed. If at any point you felt otherwise, we sincerely regret that this was your impression.
