Home Site will scam you

I only called for a quote but they still billed my mortage even though I went with a different provider. Homesite billed me over $600 and refuses time fund even though I never requested their service. When I call customer service they lie and change their story on each call. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM

Very frustrating. Seek insurance elsewhere.

I recently purchased condo insurance through progressive hoping to bundle with my car insurance. This policy is actually administered through Homesite, and this review is about Homesite.

It sucks. Somehow my name was typo'd in an online application - I'm sure I provided my own last name properly because they seem to be able to send me emails and refer to me properly. Progressive lists the condo policy on their site, but the Homesite link simply did not work. When I called the number they provided I got an automated "medical device" offer and no help with the insurance.

I hope I am able to cancel next year and get real insurance.

Had a water leak in my pipes in ceiling. Carley was so very helpful in putting me at ease!!!

Up until February of this year

Up until February of this year, I have been very happy with Homesite but I hate them now. One of the rooms in my house had water damage and I was assigned a claims adjuster. The claims adjuster was the opposite of her name. My claims adjusters name was Lucky Giordano, and all I got was bad luck. The first few times everything was great but then I just turned to crap. She became incompetent and could not return my phone calls and she is a nightmare. Then, I spoke to her boss Trey Flowers, another person opposite his name. There is nothing floral or pleasing about him, he is stinky! Trey did give me another insurance adjuster after getting rid of the other one. But, my new one Michael Hernandez is another piece of crap. In the beginning, he seemed to be on my side but that faded quickly. He used all kinds of excuses for not getting back to me and he is terrible too. I know that there are other people who have claims but, you came to my house first and I should have been dealt with first. It's not my problem that you're in a different state or there is flooding anywhere. If you had dealt with my claim quickly, then we wouldn't have a problem. I had the drywall removed from the water damaged room and the company sent a $6000 bill. Michael at first did prove with my help that this company committed insurance fraud by claiming things they did not use at my house. Then the company who still padded their bill called ServiceMaster restore in El Centro, sent another fraudulent invoice that was 4600. I looked at the bill and it was still excessive. I told Michael and I told Trey that the bill was fraudulent and to please please fight for me because the bill is a lie. Instead of doing any research, Michael and Trey sent this fraudulent company a check. They did not care about me, they did not care that they were paying on a fraudulent claim, they just wanted it to go away but it won't and neither will I! Home site and its agents committed fraud and so did the company that worked on my house. They didn't fight for me, they just wanted to shut everyone up. Do not use this company, they don't care how their customers are treated, they just want your money and they want everyone to shut up. I will be reporting them for insurance fraud tomorrow. Shame on them!!

They Will Take Your Money and Drop You...

Absolutely DO NOT use these guys. We always made our premium payment on time and never made a claim, and then they decided to drop us anyway. Canceled for no reason. These guys are terrible. Typical scummy insurance agency.

Sneaky Amendments in Renewals

I recently had a hailstorm ravage my home. In one of my policy’s renewals within the past few years, Homesite snuck an amendment in that excludes “cosmetic” damage. This was not a part of the original policy that I enacted, but they took it upon themselves to add it without calling attention to it. They may be within their rights to do this in my state, but it is an incredibly shady practice. The exterior of my home is mangled, and they are covering next to none of it.

Worst adjuster

I am writing to formally request a comprehensive review and reassessment of the valuation associated with my recent homeowners' insurance claim with Homesite, arising from water damage in my basement.

The loss originated from a water leak, which resulted in significant mold contamination affecting the drywall, as well as the involvement of asbestos-related materials within the flooring system. Upon inspection, the assigned claims adjuster authorized remediation services. Consequently, a contracted remediation company removed flooring across four rooms and drywall from two rooms, at a total cost of $13,000.00.

While I acknowledge the completion of the remediation work, I must express serious concern regarding the valuation provided for the subsequent restoration. Based on independent contractor estimates, the cost to replace the flooring is approximately $7,000.00, and the drywall replacement is estimated at $5,800.00. In contrast, the insurer’s calculation—derived from a square footage-based formula—allocates only $2,391.54 for both flooring and drywall combined.

DO NOT buy insurance from this company

DO NOT buy insurance from this company. I was connected to this company through Progressive. Two $500 annual rate hikes in a 3 year period - both causing an increase in my mortgage. Contact led to literally no logical explanation and was blamed on credit reporting. I have a 780 score.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I CALLED TO UPDATE MY POLICY AND FROM THE START OLIVIA THE PHONE REP WAS EXTREMELY RUDE, WITH ATTITUDE AND SO UNPROFESSIONAL. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ELSE THAT COULD ASSIST ME WITH A BETTER ATTITUDE, SHE SCREAMED AT ME SAYING SHE WASNT GIVING ME ATTITUDE AND SAID NO. SHE THEN HUNG UP ON ME. I CALLED BACK AND CANCELLED MY POLICY. AWFUL, RUDE AND IGNORANT PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE ASSISTING THE PUBLIC.

Do not trust-Homesite/American Family Insurance

Homesite is terrible. They are actually a part of American Family Insurance, which I didn’t realize until it was too late. I have had GEICO for my car insurance for more than 20 years and decided to switch my home insurance to them as well-except now that I filed my first home insurance claim ever in my entire life (as a result of the blizzard we had in February) I’ve found out that GEICO doesn’t do anything other than answer the phone. It’s Homesite/American Family that’s handling everything.

The adjuster I have is called a “desk adjuster“ and she has been unhelpful, difficult to reach (her hours are in a time zone 2 hours different from mine and she in only reachable via phone when I’m working).

When I asked her if I could speak to someone else so I didn’t need to ask for time off work to call her, she said “unfortunately no, because I am the one handling your claim”and she is about 2000 miles away from my property. I made a an appointment to talk to her during her work hours, took time off work, called her at that time, (she didn’t answer) only to find out hours later she doesn’t actually take appointments?!?! (I have proof of all of this in writing).

This adjuster has also lied to me and I have proof of this also in writing via both email and text. This whole experience has been a nightmare, and if someone after reading this chooses a different home insurance company-and I save 1 person from using Homesite/American Family Insurance-then this review has served its purpose.

WORST HOME INSURANCE IN THE MARKET. DO NOT GO FOR THIS !!

Progressive homesite is the worst home insurance in the market. I could not give less that 1 star on Trust Pilot. Their process has a lot of flaws and quotes keep changing and they "proactively" charge your mortgage company without giving you an opportunity to cancel, thereby throwing a wrench in the mortgage payments. They do not honor their coverages and find ways to cheat the customer. Their customer service lacks training and you cannot give a feedback to change the process. They are rude and their claims process is a scam for the lack of a better word. DO NOT GO FOR PROGRESSIVE HOMESITE.

Swept Me In and Kicked Me Out

Progressive reviewed my auto insurance when I moved to another state. They suggested I speak with Homesite afterward to discuss homeowners' insurance. Homesite reviewed my information and offered an attractive policy. A month later they sent an inspector who stated my roof needed to be replaced although it had recently been given a tune-up and treatment by Roof Maxx. I was given thirty days to replace the roof, which I was unable to do, and the policy was cancelled. To add insult to injury, I have to pay more for less coverage now with my previous insurer.

Astronomical Increase and No Comunication

I was with Homesite through Progressive for 7 years. Out of nowhere they tripled my rates and, since they convince you to go paperless, the notice was caught by me spam filter. I didn't know about the increase until I got my year end mortgage statement. When I called to get an explanation they basically told me that there was nothing to explain and there was nothing they can do about it.

I understand that rates increase over time, but going from $900 to $3,000 is insane. And the fact that they refused to even talk to me about it tells me everything I need to know about this company.

Slow to pay

Price was good when I started, and then it got too high. When I canceled, they took a month to review my request to cancel and then another month to send my refund. I am not happy with them and would not recommend them.

Switched to Progressive and bundled…

Switched to Progressive and bundled with home owners insurance. The auto portion wasn’t an issue, though come to find out I haven’t had homeowners insurance for the past 5 months when my mortgage company asked about my coverage. I wish I’d have investigated Homsite when I switched to Progressive.

The absolute most scammy insurance…

The absolute most scammy insurance company I have ever encountered. They bait you with a competive rate to start with and then when you need them it is all game after game after game. I specifically went through all the aspects of the policy to ensure I had the coverages I needed, but then when disaster hit with all the flooding in Vermont and the increases in claims not only are they committed to ensuring you are not covered, the year two increase in policy premium was DOUBLE! First year was the bait, second year increase makes the average of the two years more expensive than even the most premium of prices. I WISH i saw all the reviews on this site before signing up - but I have never been so glad to cancel. If you want actual protection for your home, trust a better company with that protection.

Abusing the elderly

I am a contractor helping an elderly client with her insurance claim. The adjuster assigned to her claim has been uncooperative from day 1. Taking complete advantage of this elderly woman with a bad memory. She screwed up the first insurance check. Then she decided to never answer or return a single phone call from the dozen or more that I tried to contact her. She still has not corrected her mistake and re-issued the first check. My client is a sweet old lady that needed help so we already completed the work for her. This adjuster has no business being employed by ANY insurance agency. I am going to teach my client how to write her own reviews next week. This horrible adjuster is NOT going to get away with this.

Homesite failed to add my house number…

Homesite failed to add my house number to a homeowner policy I purchased. When I was notified by my bank that 2 months later, homesite refused to update my policy to show my house number or refund my premium.
Basically, they kept my premium without insuring me.
Definitely will never do business with them again. They should be shut down!

Homesite Holds Customers Hostage With Their Own Errors

We’ve been Homesite customers since 2022 (through Progressive/American Family Insurance). After a single water damage loss in January 2024, Homesite created a duplicate claim in error and reported it as an “at-fault” loss. They admitted this mistake in writing but never fixed it.

Because of their false reporting, I can’t get new homeowners coverage and my premium with Homesite has nearly doubled. To make matters worse, they tried to reduce the replacement value owed under the policy by deducting remediation costs — something their own policy doesn’t allow.

For nearly two years I’ve been patient but firm, filing complaints with multiple regulators, yet Homesite continues to drag its feet. A company that claims to stand for integrity and service should not hold its own customers hostage through errors and bad-faith tactics.
