Terrible fitting and service

Couldn’t fit the carpet to the edge of the room. Damaged skirting boards and door frames. Delivered bed late. The owner kindly emailed me to explain how this was my fault. Left the door off for good measure. Pictures of the job are on my google review so that you can make your own mind up whether this is a company to avoid.

Hello Christian,

This review isn’t entirely accurate and is over exaggerated as most negative reviews always are of course. As explained previously your decorator should be accepting fault here.

All this was around 6months+ ago and you’re clearly now leaving a review after we didn’t bow down to your unreasonable demands.

We arrived at your property to find an empty room that had been freshly decorated. The room in question has beading around the perimeter of the room of which is missing in a few places. This beading has been freshly decorated and glossed which was fitted to your skirtings.

As explained in the email your last carpet was also fitted up to this beading and no request to do it differently was made.

Removing the beading would be added labour and would of wrecked your skirtings and damaged all paintwork. Something I’m surely you or anyone would be shocked by upon your return. Why would a company make fixture alterations to a room without request.

Furthermore your door hinges are on a lift and swivel fire door which were again painted over and glossed over, causing the door to be stuck. 2 people struggled to break this paint seal and remove the door so that the carpet could be fitted. In doing so when the door released the strength used jolted the door and slightly marked a wall. Compensation was offered and declined as you said this is not a problem and it was accepted that it was an unavoidable accident. Accidents happen.

Your bed was ordered during Ead, this was explained to you when the bed was delayed by only 1 day due to our manufacturer running at very low capacity due to Ead. We delivered the bad the next day and even took it to the room and put it together and moved it into place free of charge as an apology for the lateness. You never had any issues with this and none were raised as you were understanding at the time. In all you only waited around 7-10 days for a new bed and mattress which is rather quick.

Unfortunately in the end, what you wanted was for us to uplift and replace the carpet and then take all your beading off and fit to the skirting. Something that should of been asked for before and something we wouldn’t of done anyway due to the amount of damage and repairs this would cause to your skirtings and the redecorating that’s would be needed afterwards. We suggested that you may want to do this yourself as we wouldn’t take responsibility for it. This is something that you didn’t want to do either.

Overall if we did what you wanted which wasn’t requested we’d be in a worse position and you’d be extremely and rightfully unhappy, with us facing a large repair bill. We did the right thing and you’re still unhappy and expect a business to fork out for your or your decorators mistake and missed communication rather than accept being at fault.

Sometimes the customer isn’t right, we tried our best to offer solutions and attended your property 2 days in a row to inspect immediately after your complaint but nothing we offered and no explanation was good enough for you.

Sorry again that in this case Holmes Carpets wasn’t able to come to a fair resolution with you under these circumstances that you could accept and would be fair for both parties.

If you do at some point in the future want to revisit our offered solutions of you removing the beading and us replacing your carpet at cost price from our manufacturer or us attempting to stretch the carpet to cover the beaded areas please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’d be more than happy to revisit.

Poor execution and customer service

We organised to have a new carpet fitted prior to Christmas. On the day of fitting, the fitters were considerably later than they had estimated but were very apologetic. The work also took longer than they had estimated on arrival which caused us some inconvenience.

After the fitters left, we discovered several lumps underneath the new carpet, one of which was hard and solid. We also found that none of our doors would close anymore due to the new door plates. When I had organised for the carpet to be fitted I had been told that the fitters would check these things prior to leaving and then let me know whether I wanted the doors to be trimmed at a further cost. Obviously, this hadn't happened and so we had guests staying that evening with a bathroom door that wouldn't close.

When we contacted Holmes Carpets about these issues by email, the response from the manager/owner was very defensive. The email said things like 'these things happen' and said that the lumps were probably underlay and easily rectifiable. He made no apologies about the inconvenience but did organise to have the fitters return another day to resolve the issues.

When the fitters arrived for the second time, they discovered that one of the lumps was actually a piece of carpet gripper that had been left under the carpet. After a phone call outside, they told me they would trim the doors at no cost, which was appreciated. However, this ended up taking up most of the day. They left and returned several times to collect various bits of equipment from various places. One of the fitters was lovely but the other was swearing, complaining about his job and saying that he was 'a carpet fitter, not a joiner'. This man also tried to tell me (twice) that the doors had been trimmed sufficiently when they clearly hadn't. It made me feel really uncomfortable and the other guy was apologising for him whenever he left the room.

When the fitters left, I realised that all of the soft lumps under the carpet were still there, despite me having pointed these out.

The team were clearly rushed off their feet and this clearly impacted on their ability to complete the work to a good standard. I can see there are plenty of great reviews for Holmes Carpets but based on the fact we still have a carpet with lumps underneath it, I would not recommend.

Unbeatable!

Unbeatable!! These guys from start to finish are professionals from the guy who came out to measure up and the two fitters on the day and the guys in the office, seamless service and first class carpet thank you so much you’ve made our house a home can’t thank you enough and anyone thinking of having a whole house done in a day then these are the guys to use. Thanks to all the team you’re legends big thumbs up and smiley faces

Amazing company and amazing services

Amazing company and amazing services.

Measurements done for free and guy was very professional and polite.

Sales team did everything to help us decide and given us a great price within our budget.

Carpet fitters came on time. Did the measurements again and went back cut the sizes correctly. Fitting was absolutely perfect.

Whole job was perfectly done and had no isseuss. I do recommend them and will.use them again.

Really impressed with the company

Really impressed with the company! I rang them Friday stating that I had to have a whole house recarpeted with linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom as soon as possible. Gary came on Friday took the measurements, quoted me a price which I agreed to and had the carpets and linoleum fitted the following Tuesday. Efficient and professional job with special mention to Gary for all his help
Would highly recommend this company!

Full house carpet and vinyl

Extremely pleased with the service provided. We had a full house (3 bed) carpeted with underlay and vinyl in the kitchen/bathroom. Good quality and reasonably priced. The team of fitters were professional, friendly and polite. I would highly recommend them and definitely use Holmes Carpets again.

I can highly recommend Holmes carpets

I can highly recommend Holmes carpets, Tom in the office put me at ease and reassured me after I was ripped of by another company!! Nathan and Micheal the to young lads that came and fitted my floor were salt of the earth very respectful lovely young men, I can’t thank Holmes carpets enough, I’m in the process of having my home done up so will definitely use them to have the rest of the house done. I only want Nathan and Micheal to do the work tho!!!! Thankyou From the bottom of my heart
