Scam. Impossible to cancel, very difficult to get through to customer service. Buckle up for hours of wasted time dealing with trained filibusters, the longer they stall, the more fees they charge. I even heard from a friend he canceled, has their confirmation email, and still got charged afterwards.

Gold's Gym is a nightmare
Gold's Gym is a nightmare! I canceled my membership on February 3rd, 2022, via email and received confirmation. Yet, they continued to charge me and sent my account to a credit collection agency. This caused immense stress and a full-blown panic attack over my credit score, crucial for my business loans and livelihood.
Their customer service is abysmal—impossible to reach anyone to resolve this. I had to pay off the bogus debt to protect my credit, but I'm now considering legal action for the emotional distress and potential damage to my credit score. Avoid Gold's Gym at all costs—they're scammers!

I recently had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience with Gold's Gym, specifically at the Arcadia, CA location. I feel compelled to share my story to warn others about the unprofessionalism and lack of integrity I encountered.
I initially signed up with a $1 initiation fee, expecting to take advantage of a promotional offer. However, I made it clear that I needed my account to be placed on freeze as I was traveling out of the country. Despite providing documentation of my travel plans, I discovered three months later that Gold's Gym had been charging my account every month, along with the initial fee, without my knowledge or consent.
When I finally realized what was happening and requested a refund, the process became a nightmare. I was met with constant excuses and delays whenever I tried to contact the management. Despite speaking to the General Manager and explaining my situation, I was met with indifference and ultimately denied a refund.
It's evident that Gold's Gym Arcadia cares more about squeezing money out of its customers than their fitness and wellness. The lack of accountability and disregard for customer satisfaction is appalling. It's even more disheartening to learn that the staff member who initially assisted me is no longer employed, allegedly due to similar complaints.
I urge anyone considering joining Gold's Gym in Arcadia, CA, to think twice. This establishment has shown a complete disregard for its customers' well-being and is only interested in profiting at their expense. I plan to share my experience on every social media platform to ensure that others are aware of what they might encounter.
In conclusion, my experience with Gold's Gym Arcadia, CA, was nothing short of a nightmare. Save yourself the trouble and find a gym that values its customers and their satisfaction.
Abusive Environment for Senior Citizens
I have been a member of Gold's Gym at Swift Creek for over ten years. After my retirement as the Senior Associate Dean at the Medical College of Virginia, going to the gym became a crucial element of my retirement activity. Today, I had an experience I had never encountered. I went to use a bench to press weight. There was a bench open. After I had started exercising, a young man came up to tell me it was his bench and pointed to two large weights sitting nearby. I told him that you cannot save equipment and expect other people to wait for you. He then began calling me "old man, cursing at me and threatening me." His buddy next to him, who did nothing to save the spot, joined in and it felt extremely unsafe to me. I called the front desk at the gym, and it went to the director's voicemail. I felt unsafe to walk to the front of the gym to leave. I called the police and they asked me to meet them at the entrance. At the desk, I spoke to the manager, Philip Burke, and he in turn talked to the man who had caused me, threatened me and called me "old man." They both collaborated on an untrue account and Burke said there was nothing he could do because the two thugs were witnesses for each other. I talked to the police, and they said the same thing. I asked the manager if the thug would apologize to me, and he said he would not, which was no surprise as he seemed to feel entitled to treat anyone the way he wanted, and did not see where there was an issue in threatening and intimidating a senior citizen.
I am very angry about what happened and the lack of responsiveness by management. Senior citizens need to know that there are places they can go to exercise, socialize, and recreate that are safe and free of threats and intimidation. This is not a value at Gold's Gym or of the Chesterfield County Police Department.

It is not a myth that they are a legendary gym. All the bests went there. All the Mr. Olympias, the legends, the behemoths, they have all been to Golds. I don't know, some of them might not be ideal right now because I think there is a whole bunch of them around the US and possibly in other countries, I don't know. but it is an irrefutable fact that they were a huge trend in the bodybuilding and fitness industry back in the day, and they are still relevant and popular to this day.

One to avoid
My initial take on Gold's Gym (Bandung. Indonesia) has changed over the past few months.
At first, accepting of the overtly loud music, the machines were not cleaned of sweat and other bodily fluids after use by the patrons and, worse still, the spy holes in the men's toilets for the perverts.
However, after a few months of many complaints about the overtly head-ache-inducing loud music, nothing changed; it got worse.
I also paid for two family members to join but got scammed when renewing their memberships.
I have decided not to renew our memberships due to the above. The feeling of Gold's Gym is all about money rather than customer satisfaction and the sullenness of some staff who tend to criticise hard work rather than praise it. I can only award one star as it's the worst run gym I have ever attended.
Rip Off, Fraudulent Gym Chain.. Runs away with Customers money!!
I have been a Gold's Gym member for years. Used them in India around 7 - 8 years ago, and in UAE for a couple of years now.
With the UAE branch, have been a customer since 2020.
I've always subscribed to annual memberships as I am usually regular to the gym, and similarly paid for long term membership in August 2021.
However, middle of the year their 'Ibn Battuta Mall' branch was closed on 27th January 2022 without any notification to its members. Apparently it was sealed owing to non-payment of salary to staff.
Gold's Gym management did not respond to any requests for refunding the fee for long term memberships, neither officially provide any update on these developments.
My membership runs until June 2022, and I have not been able to use their gym since January.
They did offer the use of alternate facility, but that does not work due to various reasons.
They DO NOT REFUND customers who withdraw mid-term, as this is in their terms & conditions.. BUT WHY NOT REFUND CUSTOMERS WHEN GOLD GYM CLOSED THEIR OWN BRANCH??
Making the customers suffer who have already paid lumpsum amounts, not refunding or responding, just quietly lining up their own pockets and running away !!
Till date (MARCH 2022), THERE HAS BEEN NO RESOLUTION !!
Very untrustworthy brand, and Highly disappointing business practices, they could rather start a PONZI scheme in name of GOLD's GYM.
I would advise everyone to stay away, and not be Duped!!
(Also learnt later, the branch in India (Rohini, Delhi) also took deposits, closed down and the owner sccoted)
Overbilling
I had the same experience described by others below. Deceptive membership retention practices. Then continued billing after cancellation. Then threats from a debt collector over the excess billed amounts.

Gold's Gym Studio Program
Studio programs are paid for as an addition to your membership. Which I believe should be included in your membership when you sign up for the gym. The tv displays have been inoperable for the past year and a half, in their Burn room to display workouts. Orange Theory down the street does not have this issue. Their cycle studio has not been in operation since March 2020. Basically you are paying full price for a studio package for 2/3 of class offerings and malfunctioning equipment. They have taken out 1/3 of the equipment from the gym floor to add astroturfing. If I wanted to workout with an outdoor feel I would workout outside not indoors on an empty astroturf flooring. You come to the gym to utilize equipment.

This gym became so dirty and packed. Today they moved all the rusty machines to the outside. The front desk wasn't helpful at all cancelling my membership apparently they don't wanna cancel so they keep charging me. No point of going there anymore.
I referred a friend there for more than 4 months working out there and I've never gotten any free months.
Continues Charging After You Cancel
Do not recommend. The gym is very run down. They allowed me to cancel my membership because I was moving out of the country, but then they kept charging my card after I canceled and were very unresponsive when I emailed about it. Seems like they cannot retain members, so they continue to charge those who have left.

Very nice fitness center. The trainers are very friendly and professional. The variety of equipment is great, so it is always possible to chose the one you need.
