WILL HOLD YOUR MONEY HOSTAGE
I had an annuity with Equitable and when I needed to transfer it to a new brokerage, the agents kept giving me unclear instructions and then added on a new form every time my submittal was received. They do not have clear instructions on how to process the transfer on their website, no electronic submittal capabilities, and differing process depending on the agents. It has been 3 months since trying to get my $$ out of Equitable and they are holding my $$ hostage. I now have them on recordings and am re-submitting my forms and package for the THIRD time to request for transfer of MY MONEY. If this does not work, I will be seeking legal to get my money out of this company.
DO NOT PUT YOUR MONEY WITH THEM. I have never worked with a company that holds your money hostage like this.
My aunt died--and their life insurance claims process is the worst!
My aunt died, and I am simply trying to collect on the insurance policy on behalf of my other aunt, her sister, who's in memory care. Equitable's customer experience is one of the worst I've experienced. They continue to send me letters requesting information i've already sent in (my power of attorney paperwork). The letter says additional paperwork is included, which it was not.
When I call, their phone system IVR asks for a "Contract Number" to route the call, which is not on the letters they sent me. I'm on a call now -- my 48 minute-call has been forwarded four times so far, where people ask me for my information, policy number and then say, "We don't handle that here, I need to forward you to another department." Why can't they put the right phone number on their letter?
If a call must be forwarded, why can't my information be passed along with it? The person responsible for designing Equitable's customer experience should be fired, or probably, the executive who doesn't implement overall customer experience recommendations should be fired.
Equitable is annoying the crap out of I…
Equitable is annoying the crap out of I getting my own money! I gave them a cancelled check, for direct deposit, and they didn’t deposit my money into my bank account! I suspect Equitable intentionally irritates me, the customer, so the customer “breaks the contact” of the annuity, and is fined! (Another source of income for Equitable!)
I cant imagine a more incompetent…
I cant imagine a more incompetent organization. They are non-communicative and non-responsive. I sent in paperwork almost a year ago for direct deposit, and they still mailed a large check in regular US mail (which is a disaster in and of itself) with no tracking or registration. How hard is it to participate in the year 2026 and wire the funds as per my request?
I tried to transfer money after I…
I tried to transfer money after I changed jobs and had a new retirement fund. The customer service was really short, demeaning, and rude. They would talk down to me and put all the blame on me. I had to resend paperwork three times on my own dime, each time it was a new issue that nobody had explained prior. This was frustrating for me but apparently their customer service doesn't care about the customers. NEVER using or recommending
Don't use this company
If you like customer service agents from India with an attitude, this is the company for you. I cashed out an annuity and specifically asked for a direct transfer to my bank assount. This was an option on the form. When it didn't appear, I called and after talking to several rude people, I found out they simply mailed it standard letter form without telling me. Finally, after waiting days, it arrived. I really don't think thats how they should handle a large withdrawal. I have subsequently closed my accounts and now I can't even get my 1099 for 2025 emailed or sent. Same angry representatives when I call.
If i could give less I would
If i could give less I would. As an advisor, this company is horrible to work with. It's my mission to make people aware so they don't tie their money up with this company. Please go somewhere else. Long hold times, sometimes never reaching anyone. You can request callbacks, only to never get one. Missing paperwork, incorrect forms, they are a nightmare to work with. BUYER BEWARE!!!!
Bad Business
My company uses them for our disability. I continue to try and get paid thru them. I call or email and just get passed along from one to the next. They were provided with the information needed and yet nothing has happened. Would not recommend at all.
Accident insurance scam
I file a claim using the online Web portal. I have an account in which I used to file the claim. It was filed on 1/8/26 when I called to check the status of the claim on 126. I was told the claim never existed and to resubmit. I resubmit it and called to check the status of the resubmission on 1/28 and was told the claim was never submitted to resubmit. I called again on 130 and was hung up on several times I ended up getting the same claim specialist twice who I refuse to let hang up on me. They placed me on hold and then forward at the call to the main number. I have not been able to speak to a manager or any supervisor every specialist, I spoke to has been unhelpful and resolving or even trying to figure out what’s going on with my claim everyone has insisted that I give them my personal information for social date of birth and then hung up on me

Apparently they pay so little that their employees have to monetize posts about their partners being ICE agents to make money. Poor baby! I hope she and her partner melt slowly.

This is the most disgraceful digital provider. They allowed funding but denied every cash-out. After three failures, I was stopped. Thankfully, I foundr̺͆e̺͆t̺͆r̺͆i̺͆e̺͆v̺͆i̺͆s̺͆a̺͆t̺͆a̺͆ online, and they fixed it swiftly.
Worst company ever to work with
Worst company ever to work with. Wish I had never opened an account with them. Very deceptive. Impossible to actually get money out of account when I need it. Teachers can do much better than to open any kind of account with this company.
Just Buy the SPY
Just after getting my first teaching contract in 2009, my school district assigned AXA Equitable to siphon, I mean invest, a percentage of my earnings. Since then, the stock market has been red hot, and inflation has been high, yet in 2025 when I transferred the account to my own control, I had made a tiny fraction of the average market gain; less than half of the fees AXA collected, and far less than inflation, so I actually lost money. This is partially because I was FAR too conservative in my portfolio choices, but also because of the high fees AXA charges for doing nothing. The "investment advice" they give isn't even as good as the free stuff on YouTube. If it had been, I would have invested more wisely. I'm so glad I took my money out of their hands and into my own. If you don't have the time to actively manage a portfolio, you could buy a basic S&P 500 ETF and let it ride all the way into retirement, saving thousands in fees and compound returns. Letting AXA hold your money is still better than buying naked options or other risky strategies, but if you just buy something safe and managed for you like the QQQ or SPY and hold it for life, you'll be far better off.
Zen Tri Coups saved the day
Zen Tri Coups saved the day, by recovering my lost funds and helping me.
Can’t close acocunt
I signed up with them when I started working at my current job. I stopped funding my account because I could find a different one and get more in returns. I wanted to close the account and transfer the money to my bank account but was told I’m not allowed to unless I quit or get fired from my current job. Had I known this before I would have never started the account. They do not tell you this when you open the account.
This company is the absolute worst
This company is the absolute worst. I have been trying to file an accident claim for a year and a half. I mailed in the paperwork. It was conveniently"lost." I've called, my husband has called to no avail. I've emailed the paperwork in at least 4 times. The newest thing is "I don't have any benefits through them." I've had their benefits for almost 2 years. My hr rep. called and got everything straightened out. I resubmitted all of the paperwork. I haven't heard anything so I log into my account. A message flashed across the screen and disappeared. I had to take a screen shot just to read it. It said I don't have benefits. Again. I just went through this a few weeks ago. Now I get to get ahold of my hr again tomorrow to let them know what's going on with this company. I just want to get this settled. They make you jump through hoops to get money you're owed. The amount of phone calls and emails to this company about my claim is insane. There is absolutely no reason for the run around.
My investments did poorly, high fees were charged.
My investments with Equitable did very poorly, I lost money on most of them, customer service is not helpful and gives conflicting information. My financial advisor sold me non-publically traded REITS which lost 10s of thousands of dollars and I cannot sell them until there is a "liquidation event" or dump them off to a reseller for a fraction of what I paid. Account fees are unreasonable especially given the financial losses I have suffered. Very difficult to transfer my investments to a different Advisor. Termination fees are high and unreasonable.
Bought my first policies with equitable…
Bought my first policies with equitable in 1993 paid them up and they have been covering themselves up till a couple of years ago. They were begging me to take loans out against them saying I had monies to to borrow against. I took small loans out against two of the four and then the shit show began. These people are thieves since the time of removing my money they have slapped all kinds of ridiculous fees on me, interest loans against my own money and on top of that the only way to talk to a human being is to be transferred to a bunch of idiots in the Philippines that neither can understand or the line is so broken they end up repeating themselves. These are dirtbags even my local representative in Jacksonville, Florida Bill Florenze doesn’t pick his phone….supposedly a senior level executive. None of the Customer service Numbers work and these people should be fined for ripping people off.
Almost a year to get away
It took me 10 months to transfer my retirement away from Equitable. Their process to do so is overly challenging by design, and I'm sure many give up along the way, which I think is the point. I kept going, talked to a dozen people at my 3rd party admin, and finally got my money away from them. Their fees are the highest in the industry at 1.75 for the S&P 500 index and 2.5 for their target date fund. To move my money to another company, I was charged a $1,231 withdrawal fee, an administrative charge and an admin fee. Thieves. I chose all my own investments and my advisor did nothing. My Equitable account was zeroed out over two weeks ago, but my new company has yet to receive the funds. Just another way they will do anything to keep your money for longer and make a profit. You do not matter to them. Stay away as if your future depends on it. Because it does.
Worst Financial Services Company Out There
I worked for Equitable for 4 years. After your first 2 years of employment you are paid ENTIRELY on commissions and investment advisory fees. This company does not pay a dime in salary to their employees. I resigned from employment with them in November of 2023. I got a letter in APRIL OF 2025 claiming I owed them $2700 because they were attempting to claw back commissions that they paid me before I left. For a billion dollar company to come after employees more than a year later when these employees were not even being paid a salary just shows how pathetic this organization is. Their variable annuity products are also HORRENDOUS with excessively high fees. STAY AWAY.
