My name is John O’Maley. I’ve attended 302 ECRM events—my first was Charlie Bowlus’s very first ECRM in California 32 years ago.
By way of background, I began my 42-year business career when Procter & Gamble hired me straight out of the U.S. Army, where I received world-class training in marketing, branding, and advertising from one of the best global marketers ever. For the past 32 years, I’ve run my own sales and marketing consulting firm serving CPG brands. Along the way we’ve had meaningful successes—and some major failures—but I can honestly say I’ve learned the most from the failures.
ECRM has consistently been the most effective, efficient, and productive use of my consulting time. I’ve successfully launched 200 CPG products into retail, and I took all 200 through multiple ECRM programs. In my experience, ECRM is the most efficient and results-driven trade event format I have ever participated in. Overall, I’ve led clients through nearly 1,000 trade events, and ECRM stands in a category of its own.
Roughly half of my ECRM meetings have been 10 minutes and the other half 20 minutes. Both formats have been invaluable for me and for my clients. The ECRM staff are consistently professional, sharp, resourceful, and responsive. But the real beauty of ECRM is simple: you get a guaranteed 10- or 20-minute meeting with the right category buyer for your product.
The key to my success—regardless of format—is to present for the first half of the meeting and then close, close, close in the second half. After ECRM, it can take 20+ follow-ups to convert interest into orders. But if a buyer expresses interest at ECRM, that is your green light to keep following up until you either get the order or the buyer clearly tells you they’re no longer interested. Too many companies quit after 10 follow-ups when the buyer hasn’t responded. That’s a mistake. Don’t give up.
ECRM receives the highest rating I could possibly give. If you are a CPG manufacturer and you are truly serious about launching your brand successfully, then in my humble opinion: you must attend the category-specific ECRM program for your brand.

ECRM does a great job connecting buyers and sellers. The pre-scheduled meetings are an efficient way to connect with busy category managers. The meetings are set in advance so you know exactly who you will meet with and can focus your presentation to meet their needs. The in person sessions are great so you can physically demonstrate and sample your products but the virtual meetings eliminate travel time and offer a wider variety of retailers who can take meetings from anywhere. Highly recommended!

In my experience, ECRM events are very effective at creating new business discussions with strategic target accounts. The structured meetings create near term as well as pipeline opportunties. A superior investment versus a traditional trade show.

The overall experience with the ECRM conference was wonderful, from the beginning exchange with Tyler getting our company set up to the actual conference. Caroline's communication was outstanding throughout the entire process, and to be honest, she is the best I've worked with at any industry conference. The room set up was spot on, the caliber of customers was great and the number of suppliers was not overwhelming. This ratio was spot on. Looking forward to exhibiting next year!

The team at ECRM this week was incredible. We entrusted ECRM to take our 15-Year-Old, Direct to Consumer brand to the shelf. Strategically, worked with our partners at ECRM and they delivered. With their resources, we exceeded our goals. The whole team made the brand teams feel like royalty. We can't wait to be back in February.
