Totally dysfunctional
Based on my experience over many months, DAS UK is a totally dysfunctional organisation. I say this based on a very large number of contacts.
I can give just a few examples - time and probably space would prohibit a full report.
DAS were asked to accept two claims. One was accepted. I wished to use my own solicitor but was persuaded by DAS - a list of reasons were given to me - to use their recommended solicitor.
Around every 4 weeks DAS emailed to ask how the appointed solicitors were getting on. I replied to each email explaining the appointed solicitors were doing nothing. If I heard from them at all it was with a promise to do something by a certain date and every promise was broken. Five months after they were appointed nothing had happened. I didn't even have confirmation the papers had been read.
DAS totally ignored every one of my complaint emails. I just received the same standard enquiry a month later. I also had a similar experience with my insurers for which DAS were handling my claim. Eventually - more fool me for waiting so long - I contacted the chief executive of my insurers who appointed a senior person to investigate. Eventually I received an advice letter from the solicitors, months late, and which was of zero value because it merely repeated legal advice, supplied to DAS and their appointed solicitors by me, I had obtained earlier from a barrister using my own solicitor.
By this time I had lost all confidence in the DAS recommended solicitors and wished to use my own. I had advised this even before the DAS solicitors issued the advice letter. However I have been expected to pay for the advice letter which had no value by using some of my cover.
DAS put every possible obstruction in the way of my own solicitors being appointed. Taking a "take it or leave it" approach to the rates they would offer.
Even three months after it was reluctantly accepted by DAS I can use my own solicitor they have not yet been appointed.
I have been told by DAS their recommended solicitor charges very low rates compared with elsewhere. Which sort of explains why I was ignored and treated with contempt. Clearly I was last in the queue for any sort of service. You get what you pay for.
I have sent detailed emails to DAS on the various points of dispute between us. The replies never properly address my points and omit comments at all on most points.
Replies are regularly sent by someone who hasn't previously been involved and who hasn't read the earlier emails in the string.
My second claim was rejected without any proper explanation by reference to the policy wording and the facts. The rejection was the only aspect which was dealt with promptly by DAS over a period of 9 months and counting.
DAS is an organisation that has zero care about the service it provides to someone making a claim. Also, as mentioned, it is so poorly organised I can only describe it as dysfunctional.
This has been my experience over many months. Via my insurers I am seeking compensation for the appalling way I have been treated.

My case was eventually brought to a successful close by Paul Rosser who was excellent in every respect. However, the case took 3 years to resolve . Up to the point where Paul took over, towards end of last year, the case was passed from one person to another and did not seem to be well supported. It was only when I rang to complain that Paul was assigned to the case and things really got moving.

DAS are very quick to take your money and promise the world, but usually look for loopholes to not honour your claim.
Took out a Landlord insurance that ran with DAS for three years, yet when it was time to support an eviction process (not even claiming arrears), they found loophole based on the fact that the initial breach of contract started before their contract, even though that initial breach was unrelated to the eventual eviction.
The complaint team is a waste of time, and appears not independent from their customer service team.
