Mucking about!!!
This was the second adventure with Colin to the West of Scotland, this time to Muck and the small isles. As usual it was well run with excellent scheduling and great accommodation and food. Unfortunately i had a persistent cough and this affected both my endurance and appetite. Fortunately Colin was very sympathetic and even managed a “rescue” on Rumm when i just clapped out. Also my apres shoot conversation was limited by my poor hearing and bunged up ears (I am 81 incidentally). However highlights included the aurora and some wonderful venues for landscape and wild life. I have some great memories. If I am still around i hope to try another Prior adventure next year. Highly recommended.
Muck based photography week
A superb location at Gallanch Lodge on Muck with views across to Rum, Eigg and, further away, Skye Cuillin; the changing light conditions afforded different views of each of these. Each day was easy paced - sometimes on Muck itself and at other times via boat to Rum, Eigg and Coll where were treated to exclusive views and use of the scenery!! All in all, it delivered as only the West Coast of Scotland can.
Colin, in arranging the days, allowed considerable freedom to roam in each location meaning that everyone had different experiences to share. The "tell and show" session at the end of the week was good too - both as it allowed us to see other people's work but also provided an insight to Colin's take on the subject.
The accommodation was very comfortable - everyone dining together with views out of the picture windows. The food was excellent - provided rather than ordered from a menu.
Being in the company of people with a similar interest in photography is always a plus.
Muck and Small Isles Photograhy Tour - May 2024
I recently attended Colin’s Muck and Small Isles Photography Tour and it was a great experience. The itinerary was varied and the tour was very well organised. The standard of accommodation and food at Gallanach Lodge on Muck were excellent making for a very comfortable stay. A highlight was having access to a boat which allowed us to visit various Islands in the Inner Hebrides. Landing on beaches by dinghy was a truly memorable experience. We were lucky with the weather and the landing spots were interesting and scenic, perfect for photography and exploration. The days spent on Muck were also excellent. It's a Bonnie Island with interesting landscapes and wildlife and has its own unique charm. The group were warm and friendly which added to the overall enjoyment of the trip. Thanks to Colin for organising another excellent and memorable tour.
Colin Prior Photography Tour - Islay | A+
In April, I joined the workshop, Photography - Islay, led by Colin Prior, and it was an A+, top notch experience from start to finish. I was traveling solo and joined a small group of 8 whom I enjoyed getting to know. I differed from the group in a couple of ways; only beginning photographer and the only one not from the UK, but I felt welcomed and included. I especially appreciated that we ate breakfast and a leisurely dinner together at one large table, so that we got to know one another. And, each day, we stopped on our journey for coffee and other refreshment or a bit of shopping.
Islay is a breathtakingly beautiful place to visit, and Colin knows it well. We traveled around the island and to Jura to photograph unique and beautiful landscapes with Colin's patient support and guidance. I learned a lot, and I look forward to growing my skills based on that solid foundation.
We stayed at the lovely Port Charlotte Hotel on Islay. The rooms were comfortable, food was fabulous, and everyone on staff made us feel welcome and cared for.
If you are contemplating this trip, I encourage you to sign up. I loved it, and I would sign up for another tour with Colin without a hesitation.
Photographic fun on the Small Isles
This was a most enjoyable and productive trip. I know the Small Isles quite well, from many previous visits, but this was the first time based on Muck (or any of them). This made it possible to hike around on the small but interesting island of Muck without any rush. Day visits to Eigg (twice) and Coll were extremely enjoyable. Photographic opportunities are innumerable throughout these islands. The Lodge accommodated us with comfortable rooms, and they catered to my needs as a vegetarian very well. Many thanks to Colin for arranging and guiding this visit to such an enthralling part of Scotland.
A passion to share
I had a wonderful time last week on a workshop with Colin on Muck and the small islands. Having been on previous trips lead by him I wasn't surprised it was again a perfectly organised workshop with fantastic locations, a nice group, excellent accommodation (with a phantastic view) and superb food. He ran the tour with silent precision in the background, so all our attention was free to be focussed on the wonderful experience of the natural world out there. He shared with us his passion for these beautiful places. I felt I could join in on various levels: I took in the beauty of the scenery and shared it in the outdoors among a nice group. Colin showed us the best locations for capturing the unique sights through the photographic eye and taught us how to take the most expressive shots. We also became aware of the timelessness of the mountains over billions of years from a natural history point of view... We went to phantastic remote places, a pristine world that demands our respect and needs to be protected by us humans. Memories to take home and to preserve far beyond the actual trip. We watched some marine life and - of course - enjoyed a great number of sheep on the islands, lots of lambs with their mothers grazing in the sun at this time of year.
Colin`s tutorial was a great opportunity for learning more about photography and for presenting our shots thus making it a great learning experience.
Colin`s authentic passion makes him a true ambassador of the natural world and of his Scotland.
Thank you for all this, Colin!
The only remaining question is: when and where to go on another workshop with Colin?
Great photography trip to Orkney
This was my second trip with Colin so I mostly knew what to expect. The whole trip was really well organised. The accommodation and meals were great. We visited some fantastic locations for landscape photography, and even though archaeology wasn't a primary focus managed to fit in visits to Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodga and the Stones of Stenness. Some of the coastal locations involved spectacular cliffs, which might be a bit daunting for some, but away from the cliffs are beautiful wild landscapes. All in all a great trip. Thanks Colin.
My Second Trip
This is my second trip with Colin and it was absolutely wonderful! The location was breathtaking, the accommodations were wonderful and the group was the best! Colin is so helpful and professional it's always a pleasure to take a trip with him. He takes care of every detail, all you have to do is show up with your camera in hand.
Good service all round
Prompt delivery. Unfortunately there was a slight issue with the book but this was quickly resolved the next day with no other problems. Overall good service would certainly recommend.
Beautiful picture delivered quickly.
We ordered a picture of Eilean Donan Castle because we love it and have visited it several times. We think the picture is beautiful and the service first class. Thank-you.
Another great workshop with Colin
Another great workshop with Colin. This time on Skye. Although the weather was against us for some of the time, Colin always had alternative photographic opportunities for the group. A good mix of people and abilities along with nice accommodation and great food made for a great time and as always, no hidden extras to pay for.
For anyone thinking of attending one of Colin’s workshops, do it, you won’t regret it. You will come away having learned some new skills, discovered new photographic locations and made new friends.
Islay & Jura Photography Tour 2024
I recently had the pleasure of joining Colin Prior on his Islay and Jura Photography Tour along with a group of 6 other photographers on the beautiful Isle of Islay.
Staying at the Port Charlotte Hotel, we were treated to delicious food every day and looked after by the very warm and welcoming staff, it gave us a lovely base to explore many photography locations all over the island.
The weather was mixed, producing interesting skies and backdrops, visiting beaches, seascapes, and landscapes in many varying locations which wouldn't easily be found without Colin’s expertise and experience.
I joined a friendly group of mixed ages and knowledge, all with a common bond of a love of photography, who enjoyed chats on locations, catch-ups at breakfast and relaxed socialising at dinner in the evening.
A fantastic trip, a great photography experience with long-lasting friendships made.
A well-organised and first-class tour and an experience I would thoroughly recommend. Colin, well done and thanks so much once again.
Very responsive, and great product
Very responsive to a request for more information regarding replacing very old prints. when replacements were ordered, they arrived well-packaged and more quickly than expected.
Really good service and quality product.
Isaly Photography Trip
Just returned for yet another great trip with Colin. The hotel and food were excellent and plentiful.
The locations are fabulous and not what you would find yourself and having some of these locations to yourself is fabulous - no need for anyone to move out of shot.
Was a great crowd with lots of banter. Would recommend.
Islay Tour 2024
The room, food and lounge areas are excellent at the Port Charlotte Hotel. Weather was mixed but that is part of the ‘Islay experience’. Colin is well versed in dealing with capricious weather conditions. On one particularly wet day we still managed to photograph in rain protected woodlands and have personal critiques of our images in the afternoon. An opportunistic detour to Loch Gruinart provided some of our best images. Islay also has a remarkable range of whisky distilleries that have visitors centres and tasting opportunities. The combination of having other photographers as well as Colin’s undoubted expertise made this a valuable tour. Thankfully all CalMac ferries ran to time. Have returned home refreshed after a hard year.
An excellent and memorable experience
An excellent and memorable experience. Colin was not only a fantastic guide to the Isle of Skye but an exceptionally experienced and patient professional! Despite very uncooperative weather (or perhaps because of it), we have been fortunate to learn and practice an abundance of useful techniques. I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending the tour with Colin. Whether you are an aspiring or a more experienced photographer, the tour certainly offers plenty of opportunities to explore the island and advance your skills.
Excellent photography tour on Skye
Excellent photography tour on Skye. Despite poor weather conditions (bad even by Scottish standards), Colin made the best of it and delivered us to breathtaking locations in between rain squalls. Colin patiently answered all our questions about photography and Skye. I loved listening to Colin talk about photography as we drove from one location to the next. He is super knowledgeable about all aspects of photography. I also appreciated his instruction and the presentation on the last day on landscape photography principles. And last but not least, the food on the tour was delicious!
Brilliant inspirational book
Excellent service and quality photo book, truly inspirational work from a master craftsman at the height of his game.
Isle of Skye and Torridon Tour
Very good tour on the Isle of Skye and Torridon. Colin is a really personable guy, extremely knowledgable about all aspects of photography, but more importantly knows the best spots to get to maximum photographic opportunities out of the trip. Would definitely recommend his tours to anyone.
Beautiful product and a fantastic price…
Beautiful product and a fantastic price - delivery was also excellent.
