The surveyor was very knowledgeable and friendly and the survey itself revealed where I can make some initial small quick changes/repairs to reduce draughts and heat loss, as well as some medium and longer term home improvements.

I have a list of quick and cheap things I can do immediately, and a couple of ideas for bigger projects for future. Really worth while doing!

My surveyor was really knowledgable about all aspects of the survey. Explained everything about the process and gave plenty of advice and suggestions of how to improve the thermal efficiency of my house. Was really great to walk around with the thermal camera so you can actively see the cold spots in your house. The videos are given to you on a USB stick to review again later which is really great.

As I'm in the middle of a big renovation, she had some great ideas about for installing underfloor heating. Being an old victorian house, she also gave some great advice generally about damp/moisture, renovating ideas which will massively improve the house and its thermal efficiency at the same time.
Best £82 I have spent not he house so far.

EVERYONE SHOULD DO THIS!
A Thermal Heat Assessment should be top of your list when you move into your new home before doing ANY expensive and time consuming renovation. The £100 fee will save you lots in the long run. The results will inform you where remedial action should be taken before erecting bookshelves, wardrobes etc that are difficult and costly to dismantle and re erect afterwards. I've been perished with the cold in my flat since 2015 and never knew it let in so many draughts in so many unsuspecting places, the most surprising was plugholes! Now I can go through the recorded 2-3 hrs of this assessment again and little by little fill in the draughty areas for not much money. As a result I will have one room to internally insulate instead of several as I had initially thought. I felt so comfortable and easy with my Assessor who really took the time to explain everything. She answered all my questions in a way I could understand and reassured me about remedial actions. She was genuinely interested in her job and the results being demonstrated to me. The Assessment was done on a Sunday morning so I did not need to take an annual leave day off work. What would be helpful would be to do another assessment after I have done all the jobs to see if I have captured the draughty areas adequately. Hopefully I should feel warmer and that should be enough proof. Money well spent and a great talking point amongst friends and colleagues and hopefully and much cozier flat in the long run.

The survey was extremely useful, identifying many sources of drafts, with simple ideas of how to remedy them. It was very thorough, with every nook and cranny investigated. Unfortunately, the biggest problem is with insulation, which is sadly lacking. As a housing association tenant, I am not eligible for any of the free insulation schemes currently running.

Really informative survey that took about two hours. Range of convenient times weeekend and week day. Solutions suggested ranging from quick and cheap to longer term more expensive. Would highly recommend.

Very prompt and efficient survey from Rob. He explained things as we went around the house giving tips and tricks to improve the draft proofing efficiency. I will take on board what he said and set about making some changes as soon as possible.

It was really useful to have everything explained as we went along, and to see where the heat loss holes were - sometimes quite surprising.
I hope in the summer to get someone along to re-do all the draught-proofing round the house, as that seems to be something I could do quite easily.

I learnt a lot about where there were drafts in my home. Although the main issue is a structural one, there are many affordable things I can do to improve the energy efficiency of my home. The surveyor was very helpful in offering ideas for approaching these issues. I have already started to undertake some work to improve my homes energy efficiency.

I attended a recent Retrofit West event at which CHEESE were represented. Having had a CHEESE survey conducted on my previous house, I decided to take up a discounted offer on my current house. The survey highlighted numerous cold spots in my loft insulation that consisted of fibreglass. I invited some loft insulation companies to carry out a visual survey of my loft space and they all recommended taking out the fibreglass that was between the roof joists, and installing a product called HYBRIS insulation. It is a unique reflective insulation product, which is installed between the roof rafters. Its honeycomb structure has been designed with a network of closed cells that trap heat and provide excellent thermal and energy efficiency performance. It does not compact over time, is light, flexible and has no irritating fibres making it quick, easy and comfortable to install. It effectively converts the loft from a cold space to a warm space. The installation gave me the opportunity to partially board out the loft space as well. So I am grateful to CHEESE to have problems identified and and for solutions to be carried out.

Really great service, easy to arrange the survey; very informative and helpful surveyor - revealed areas of heat loss around the house and made easy to achieve/ cheap recommendations for us resolve ourselves without marketing any of their own services. Recommended!

Learned a lot about the areas to insulate from the home, was very impressed with the survey and professional interactions from people at retrofit west and cheese project. Only comment I have for the latter, is it would be great if the thermal cameras were calibrated to a certain temperature if possible, to help target where the most prudent areas to invest in are. As it was, it was identifying the areas, but difficult to choose between them in terms of priority (say £100 for draft insulation or £1000 for loft insulation, but if the draft insulation only has a small impact, then probably should prioritise the loft despite the higher cost).

Such a brilliant service. We're beginning to think about how to improve our house's warmth and energy efficiency and Jo the surveyor was able to pinpoint precisely where we ought to concentrate our attention. From the easy instant fixes (filling gaps around the sides of wooden window reveals, under particular draughty skirting boards, and stuffing up an unused chimney flue during the winter) to advising on the effectiveness of our future plans (internal insulation, floor insulation, MVHR) and how that might impact an older property. Simple, effective, and detailed Jo has allowed us to understand how our house really works and given us both the steps worth pursuing in the future, and helped us to discount those that are less worth the effort. With the voucher this is a bargain and will actually save us money and time as we move forward. Highly recommended for anyone with a chilly house or the desire to tread that bit less heavily on the planet!

Jo came round to do a thermal imaging survey of my draughty 60s house. After fitting a fan to the front door to draw air through the house, I donned a tablet around my neck showing the thermal imaging from Jo's camera and we went around room by room, looking at the various areas where I was losing heat from the house. To my surprise, the windows were generally fine, the loft insulation was fine, but it was more the cracks (particularly around window frames) and small holes that needed sealing. Lots of useful (and cheap) suggestions like caulking cracks, fitting radiator foil, using heavy curtains, checking outside penetrations, fitting a chimney sheep (!), adjusting window hinges etc.
With the voucher available from Retrofit West, the survey cost me just over £100. Fantastic value, very professional survey, all the recorded imagery left with you at the end on a USB stick. If you're concerned about heat loss from your home, this survey is a no-brainer.

I had a CHEESE Thermal Survey, having followed their suggestion and obtained a voucher from Retrofit South West. A fan was set up to draw the air towards the front door. The Surveyor explained everything as we walked round with a thermal camera, and I now have a list of big and little things I can do to help make my house more efficient and cost-effective. I could not recommend more highly.

I had heard about CHEESE through a local energy efficiency event, at which RetroFit West were also in attendance. I discovered that RetroFit would provide a significant voucher towards the costs of a thermal imaging survey by CHEESE. As I was looking to improve my house's energy efficiency it seemed too good an opportunity to miss.
The experience was really useful - Jo took me around every room of my house and showed me via the thermal camera all the colder spots where draughts were getting in. A number of them were pretty big!
This is a really useful service, there is no selling of anything, just information on where I should focus improvements. And many of them were very straightforward to resolve. It was also good to hear that my basic house insulation and windows are of a decent standard.

My time with Rob was fantastically useful. He was helpful, thorough and a lovely human being. I've already done quite a lot of insulation improvement on my house and it was so good to be able to actually see where the little remaining problems are. Rob even found a couple of big heat losses that I had no idea were there, but which I can fix quickly and cheaply. If you can pick up the Eco4 grant voucher to get a heat loss survey with CHEESE, it's well worth it. Top marks.
