Dreadful experience
Dreadful experience. They make you commit to 3 months at £10 pm before you can cancel without letting you attend a meeting first to see if you like it (probably why they make you commit to 3 months!). There was only 1 meeting in those 3 months where I joined so have paid for 3 but only attended one.
The host doesn’t appear to ‘host’ anything just put discussion sheets on each table to discuss amongst yourselves. So there was loads of people there we didn’t even speak to.
Didn’t really know what was going on.
The books all appear to be YA and fantasy kind of books.
There’s some online stuff but I could source most of the stuff for free myself.
A big moneymaking scam!

We're sorry to hear that Chapter 25 wasn't the right fit for you.
Just to clarify a few points, our three-month minimum membership commitment is clearly outlined in our terms before sign-up. Members are also entitled to a 14-day cooling-off period, during which they can cancel in line with consumer protection regulations.
Our book choices span a wide range of adult genres, including contemporary fiction, literary fiction, thrillers, romance, historical fiction, memoir and fantasy, and we understand that not every pick will suit every reader's tastes.
We're sorry to hear that the additional online content didn't feel valuable to you. It's a shame you see our events this way, as a huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to make them possible. Our team works closely with publishers, authors and suppliers each month to organise exclusive events, Q&As and experiences for our members, many of which wouldn't otherwise be freely accessible. While these extras may not appeal to everyone, they are a meaningful part of the membership experience for many of our community.
Finally, we're disappointed that your club experience didn't meet your expectations, particularly around facilitation and feeling connected to the wider group. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, as it helps us continue to review and improve the experience we provide for our members.

Best thing I pay for!
IRL meetings are great and Host always ready to answer questions or solve problems. Online events are fantastic, adds a bunch of extra book clubs and creative opportunities. Best thing I pay for!

With the Staines Group. Kim is a wonderful host, really enjoy her interactions with everyone and she is very thoughtful and considerate with her approach to the group. The idea in itself is wonderful, having all these groups set up. It may be nice to do a larger "national" day meet up once a year to get to know some of the extended network!

I was nervous going along alone but everyone has been so welcoming and friendly.

A lovely place to meet new people…
Its a lovely place to meet new people and share the love of a good book with people who want to do the same. Most people have a favourite genre so choosing a book club has made me read books I would have never picked up. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to branch out of their genre and meet lovely people every month.

Felt very welcome from the get go, the host is friendly, smiley and well organised and makes sure everyone feels included, a lovey chill environment to be in and will definitely recommend to anyone wanting to start a hobby and be part of a good group of people!

I have been a member of Chapter 25 for…
I have been a member of Chapter 25 for 17 months now, and it's the best decision I've ever made! I wanted to meet new people and make new friends, but never expected to be a part of something that feels like family. Not only do you make friends, you get to read books and genres you'd never usually explore, will probably be invited to social events outside of meetings, and get the Bonus Chapter (a schedule of online events including author Q&As) included. Anyone on the fence, please just join us, everyone is so welcoming and we have the best time. Ever thankful to Sian and the team, the hosts and member champions for making this happen

Unprofessional host and bad atmosphere
Went to both of the Blackpool book clubs, the one which takes place at the end of the month is ok but the book choices weren’t to my preference a lot of thrillers and fiction but the people were nice, the event which takes place the second week of the month is horrible the people are rude and bitchy do not like new members joining they make you feel excluded from the group and the host doesn’t even bother just sits chatting with her Friends very unprofessional a lot of the members don’t bother reading the book of the month and spend more time talking about themselves overall both events have problems I tried both over a course of 8 months to see if I could make friends with people and share my interests in certain books I like but no it was a disaster don’t bother attending the Blackpool events look elsewhere.

Thank you for sharing this, and I’m really sorry to hear how disappointing your experience in Blackpool has been , especially after giving both groups such a fair chance over several months.
While it’s good to hear you met some nice people in one group, what you’ve described around feeling excluded, the atmosphere, and lack of host engagement in the other isn’t acceptable and not the experience we want for any member. Our clubs should feel welcoming, inclusive, and centred around a shared love of books.

Bit misleading lovely idea.
It's a great idea, but I don't think it's worth the money. The facilitator has too many people to get around - a variety of questions left on sheets of paper and some conversation starters.
The online events often cost more - and you do not get a copy of the month's book as you are led to believe. Subscription within a subscription.
