My wife and I just returned from an amazing two weeks (April 1-14) in Uzbekistan arranged by Aliya Japarova and Chapan Travel. I tried to arrange this tour myself (as I always do), but I had only one week to sort it out since our original plan to travel to Jordan was cancelled at the last minute by the conflict in the Persian Gulf. I discovered quickly that many options for places to stay and modes of travel during high season in Uzbekistan were fully booked, so I turned to Caravanistan for help. They put me in touch with Aliya, and in that one week before our departure from Atlanta, she arranged point-to-point planes, trains, and private vehicles between Tashkent, Nukus, Moynaq, Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand, then back to Tashkent, plus hotels, tour guides, and transportation in all of those locations. Given a month or two to plan, I could have made most of these arrangements on my own, but I would still have not experienced even half of what we did. Aliya’s planning is so concise that while each day was jammed with sites and visits, we still had plenty of time for leisurely exploring on our own.

Aliya greeted our 1:00 AM arrival from Istanbul, took us to our hotel, gave us vouchers for all of the trip, and even presented us with some lovely ikat welcome gifts. The hotels were all very nice (none were a disappointment), centrally located, and staffed with friendly, English-speaking employees who catered to our every need… which was mostly extra coffee at all times of day! Every tour guide had absolutely encyclopedic knowledge of the history, religion, culture, and crafts of each region we visited. And the drivers were not only professional and careful, but also, like the tour guides, delightful to get to know personally. We swapped personal stories as well as WhatsApp numbers, so we are friends with several now that we are back home in the States.

I like planning my travels. I like the satisfaction of figuring out what to do when my surroundings are different and confusing. But two weeks is a short amount of time to see a country as large as Uzbekistan and as filled with staggeringly beautiful sites as anywhere in the world. I simply could not have had such a complete adventure without the help of Aliya and Chapan Travel. My wife and I are planning to go back to Central Asia for the remaining “Stans,” and we will certainly use Aliya’s expertise and connections when we do.

I have recently returned from a 10-day trip to Uzbekistan and, thanks to the fantastic organisation of Aliya Japanova, I had an amazing and stress-free holiday - it was undoubtedly a trip of a lifetime. Although I had always wanted to visit the Silk Road cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand, I was naturally somewhat hesitant about visiting Uzbekistan in August, in particular on my first solo trip. However, after being recommended Aliya Japanova’s services by a colleague, I contacted her about organising my trip to Uzbekistan at relatively short notice and Aliya was able to come up with a brilliant, tailor-made itinerary for me. During my time in Uzbekistan, Aliya’s selection of internal flights, trains, and drivers meant that each stage of my journey proceeded as planned and without any hassle. Given how jam-packed my itinerary was (which included spending a night in a yurt camp and visiting Sentob Village), this was no small achievement. In addition, Aliya selected hotels and guesthouses which had lots of character, along with being very well located and comfortable. In summary, I would wholeheartedly recommend Aliya Japanova’s services if you’re considering a trip to Uzbekistan!

I am 72 years old and have long dreamed of visiting the famous Silk Road cities of Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent in the steps of Marco Polo and so many others. Aliya Japanova and her colleagues at Chapan Travel helped make this possible. They organized an excellent 8 day itinerary for me and provided knowledgeable guides and drivers in each city, as well as intra-country rail and air links as appropriate. I can’t say enough about the warmth and hospitality of the Chapan crew and the Uzbek people in general. The hotels were small, comfortable, and located within walking distance of the primary sights. If you have a fascination with this part of the world, wait no longer to plan your visit. You will be in good hands!

My wife and I joined a 13-day tour to Turkmenistan and Tajikistan (transit in Uzbekistan). At first we were a bit scared as we don't know the language and do very little about these countries except portrayed by the travel books. We felt extremely fortunate that we had been arranged by Chapan Travel highly recommended by our tour leaders in Hong Kong. We were well received at the airport and the borders between the countries (what a relief to see someone welcoming us after the ordeals at the land borders!). The drivers and local guides are extremely professional and helpful and their hospitality far exceeded my expectation. They serve as great cultural ambassadors for their countries. I am a volunteer docent in Hong Kong and I have learned a lot from them to present the culture of their countries. Frankly speaking, in my eyes, the tourist destinations we visited in these two countries cannot be compared with those in the developed countries, especially the infrastructure and toilet facilities, but the passion and the enthusiasm of these guides and drivers made up a most memorable travel experience. A big round of applause to the tour operators, guides and drivers, and all friendly people we met during the journey.
