Complete scam and entrapment for renters
**I would give Boom zero stars if I could.**
My experience with Boom has felt like an absolute scam and a trap for young renters, particularly college students.
My daughter was automatically enrolled in this paid rent-reporting service through her apartment complex rather than actively choosing to sign up for it. Once we realized she was being charged and tried to cancel, the process became unbelievably frustrating.
We have made multiple attempts to opt out and stop the service and still have not received clear confirmation that it has actually been canceled. The original email/link provided to opt out is no longer functional, and trying to get someone to simply STOP a service we never affirmatively requested has been unnecessarily difficult.
This is exactly the kind of business practice that concerns me when dealing with young renters and college students. Automatically enrolling residents in a fee-based service, giving them a limited opportunity to opt out, and then making cancellation difficult once that window has passed feels predatory and intentionally designed to generate revenue from people who may not notice the charge or know how to fight it.
If Boom is genuinely providing a valuable service, people should willingly choose to enroll. It shouldn't need to rely on automatic enrollment and obstacles to cancellation.
Landlords and property-management companies should seriously reconsider participating in programs like this. Young renters already face enough fees and expenses without being automatically enrolled in another paid service they didn't ask for.
Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend that students and parents carefully review their leases and resident accounts for Boom charges. If you don't want the service, document every request you make to cancel it.
Our experience has been unacceptable, and I would never voluntarily use or recommend Boom.
