Very disappointed with this venue
Very disappointed with this venue, for a start parking was not clearly sign posted & then realised it was about 10 minutes walk from the prison.
When we got into the building it was just a walk around plastic props & silly effects. After the first bit I thought we would walk around the prison looking in cells & find out lots of history about the building but we walked out of the dark & that was it!! What made it even more frustrating was my husband & I was asked to leave a room because the guided tour wanted to come in!! We've paid as well & I was trying to read the information & look at the little bit of history that was actually there!!
I assume the rest of the prison must be the hotel, I came away not knowing anymore about the prison than when we started.
As for the cafe, £5 for a soggy sausage roll!! Didn't bother with lunch with those prices!!

A first class experience
What an absolutely first class experience!
The tour at the beginning was superb!
The special effects we beautifully done.
The prison itself was also a great experience.
The only thing missing was we would of liked to see more of the prison itself, which we don't feel we saw a lot of.
However the visual effects, the lay out, the special effects, we all well worth it.
Great value for money, and still in aaw of the place the next day.
Well worth the price for a few mind blowing hours.
Massive well done to everyone involved, a first class day out.

I would not recommend Bodmin jail at…
I would not recommend Bodmin jail at all especially for children under 10! Before we even got there was no parking that was close by, our children were frightened inside with the rubbish interactive virtual tosh I would not recommend taking children in there at all there was other families in there with scared children also. Then with our sad children on the way out we also had our bank accounts rinsed further in the gift shop what a rip off I couldn't believe it.
If you're in bodmin just go to the moors! Do not waste your money
I would also like to add I didn't enjoy the experience as an adult aswell has come too far away from what it is very little history left complete rubbish

We do note this on our website and at the point of booking, and we’re reviewing how we can communicate this more clearly to help families make informed choices.
We’re also sorry that the walk from the car park was an issue for your group. While our nearest parking at Berrycoombe Car Park is a short walk away and clearly signposted, we understand it can feel like an inconvenience, especially with younger visitors — and we’re working to improve this part of the visitor journey.
As for our shop and pricing, we aim to offer a range of products to suit different interests and budgets, but we’re sorry if it felt overpriced during your visit. Your feedback has been shared with our retail team.

Absolute waste of money and fuel…
Absolute waste of money and fuel getting there, most of the setting was fake plastic walls etc the tiny part of the prison that is still there took us 5mins to walk round, they must of renewed all the existing prison for the hotel.We was in and out within 40 minutes didn't know what to expect and 7 year old daughter was scared on reception they should advise that it may not be suitable for young children massively disappointed!!

Our Dark Walk experience uses immersive storytelling and effects to bring real prison stories to life, which some younger visitors may find intense — we do note this on our website, and we’re reviewing how to make that even clearer for families.
While part of the historic jail has been transformed into a hotel, a significant portion remains open to the public, and we’re continually expanding the historical interpretation on-site. Most guest visits take around 1.5 to 2 hours when engaging fully with the exhibits.

Broken hearts
As a local maid and hadn't been to visit for about 25 years the place looked Amazing!!! But what made the whole jail experience was the Absolutely amazing tour guide TOM. A great guy with soooo much knowledge and love for his role in his job!!!!! Definitely will be back again ☺️ 👍

Tom was brilliant
Myself and my family (5 of us) just visited last minute on the day after Boxing Day! We had the guided tour with Tom. He was absolutely brilliant. We all found the tour very interesting, informative and entertaining. Tom was witty, knowledgeable, passionate and very engaging. He was happy to give us all the gory details and it was all very interactive. We were impressed! We all came away surprised at how much we enjoyed the day. The lady in the cafe was also lovely and very helpful. All sat by a roaring fire… well worth the money 😄 Thank you Tom!

We are here for our mini moon and we did the guided tour! Tom was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and funny and someone we could easily have a drink with! Connor at the champagne bar was equally lovely. The most lovely service from both of them making us feel really relaxed and at home. They are a credit to the Bodmin jail team. Will certainly be back.

Attended a after dark paranormal…
Attended a after dark paranormal investigation tonight. What an amazing experience, plenty of paranormal equipment to borrow, being able to roam around and investigate by yourselves. We had loads of paranormal activity! But not only did we roam alone we also did 3 different activities that were extremely interesting, one I have never seen done before. Just want to mention how amazing Carl and Maddie, what an excellent duo they were, they made us laugh and overall made the night better. Thank you for this brilliant experience and changing my mind on the paranormal!

Very very disappointing
Very very disappointing. Nothing like the original experience a few years ago. Hardly anything original to see . Just fairy tale films giving no information on prison life . We were in and out within 40mins and cost £19 for adults. Do not waste your time and money.

The trip to the jail was amazing
The trip to the jail was amazing! We, my husband and myself booked a tour, being disabled we thought may be a difficult experience, but no, the staff were really helpful and made sure we were OK. Catherine, our guide, was so knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humour. Well worth paying the extra for a two hour guided tour. An amazing experience, have recommended it to others and will visit again, Brilliant!

We were pleasantly surprised at how good this was so I’m glad I didn’t read the reviews on here before or we wouldn’t have gone! The holograms/sound effects were amazing. I wouldn’t recommend if you are easily scared as it is a little spooky and dark throughout. It is brilliantly done though and definitely worth a visit. It was very quiet when we went (early morning, August school holidays) which surprised us. It’s very clean and the staff seemed helpful enough. The gift shop is fairly small but a few fun things in there and not overly priced. We didn’t visit the cafe so can’t comment on that. The car park is a bit of a walk but we were lucky enough to be able to park on the street. I would definitely recommend going - we were amazed at how good it was. They need to up their game with their marketing as, in all the years we have visited Cornwall, we’ve never been and now wished we had! Please ignore the bad reviews and go visit! You won’t be disappointed.

Disappointing tour
Disappointing tour. Was hoping to actually see inside the prison. We paid £10 for late entry and I’m glad we didn’t pay full price to look around. Some interesting parts.
Cafe was so expensive - which is a real shame as we always love a drink after a visit somewhere - £3 for a can of coke!
Could definitely do better.

Such a modern day con
Such a modern day con, charge you online to book a time slot,( which is fine) but wot they don't tell you is there is no parking, so end up driving around the little town to find a space, Yeap 1 hour later we found a space but Yeap missed our time slot, for me it not about the money we paid but the con they know when there's no parking, should hang there heads in the noose( lol no pun taken) I mean shame, great con guys , fell for that one a gooden, avoid at all cost, although a great job on the hotel, looks nice driving pass since we last seen
