Bought a boat through Boatshed Gibraltar. I'm happy with the boat and the price, but dealing with Boatshed Gibraltar was like dealing with slippery eels. Poor communication, poor management and they run a mile at the slightest request for any responsibility. So, yes, buy your boat through them.... but you'd have to be crazy to sell it through them. Personally, I dislike them immensely.

I attempted to buy a canal boat through Boatshed London but, after 3 months of misleading communications and error-riddled processes, all I'm left with is the relief that it's finally over.

The boat was advertised as being sold with a "highly attractive mooring", which contributed to half of the advertised price - unfortunately the mooring was neither for sale nor in any way transferable, and a separate 1-year lease needed to be negotiated with the landowner. The final agreement, once seen, explicitly stated that canal boats were not permitted to be moored at the location.

Later, after being reassured that mooring the vessel in violation of the mooring agreement wouldn't be an issue, and making an offer on the boat regardless, I was sent a payment request for £15k less than the agreed final price - an error that was not noticed until after they attempted to complete the sale.

I say attempted, because when I received the bill of sale, the vessel that it referenced was for a completely different boat than the one I'd agreed to purchase! Further discussion revealed that they did not have the boat's HIN to put on the bill, and were unwilling to do anything in the way of investigation to reconstruct the HIN from the boat's documentation, or locate the 2-3 bills-of-sale that made up its ownership history before me.

After requesting to withdraw my offer until such documentation could be found, Boatshed opted to ignore my request and attempted to cajole me into continuing with the purchase regardless of the above. After further insisting that they return my money, they instead found the motivation to locate the HIN as originally requested - but made no acknowledgement whatsoever of my request to return my funds while this process took place.

Having completely lost trust in both the ability and integrity of Boatshed London, I explicitly demanded that they acknowledge and fulfil the request to return my money, and stated that I no longer wanted to proceed with the sale under any circumstances - to which I received a somewhat snarky response, and instructions to fill out an unnecessary Declaration of Non-Interest (I had not bought the boat, and was not in possession of a valid Bill of Sale, after all) before they would release my funds. Just wanting this clown show to be over, at this point, I dutifully signed the declaration and awaited the return of my money.

In one final show of incompetence, and despite Boatshed already holding my details on-file, the next day I received a request to enter my bank details...to begin the process of returning only ~my holding deposit~

One more sharply-worded but unacknowledged email later, I finally found my money had been returned via a manual transfer and no further action from me.

I don't know whether this endless cavalcade of errors was down to incompetence, impatience, or part of some ineffectual sales tactic, but I find myself walking away from this experience with the strong intention never to interact with Boatshed again if I can help it.

The only reason they don't get 1-star is because, ultimately, after a lot of insistence, I was able to get my money back.

Needless to say: I don't recommend buying or selling from Boatshed if you hope to keep your cortisol levels at a healthy level.

James agreed terms to sell boat, dealt with things in a professional manner and in a tough market to sell offered good advise.

In a fairly slow market, Sam @ Boatshed Portsmouth, managed to sell my 36ft Westerly within a short period of time, through sheer perseverance & determination, and she managed to match boat with new owner, rather like a dating agency!
Seemless as always and very painless!

What a very nice bunch of people. First time coming found very friendly staff made us feel so welcome which I find unusual in the UK
The food was delicious imo. Yesterday had crispy chicken which is usually dry once fried but this was not. Tonight we had a curry mummmmm yummy The pitch is large enough and the toilets very clean considering it’s Easter and lots of children using them

Boat a Boat from Nick at Boatshed Suffolk and unfortunately they never provided the transporter with the keys or paperwork the advert said it had (engine service history). Likewise we didn’t receive the correct paperwork for the boat, just a scrappy a4 bill of sale. No previous Bill of Sales, ownership documents, proof of VAT, engine history. No keys. Very unprofessional.

On top of this the engine ended up having significant faults which somebody would have known about (it had attempted to be repaired) but failed to mention to us, so buyer beware! Do your own checks and do not trust what you are told.

I was very interested in two boats in the Plymouth area,which is hundreds of miles away.one was no problem at all they would " just give us call when you expect to arrive" However this was not the case with boatshed Plymouth who couldn't be bothered to answer the phone even after several attempts and leaving messages, the e-mailed excuse was to busy and no signal - which I don't believe because it rang to long before going to answer phone. I then emailed for an appointment and told diary full except 20th Dec midday which wasn't good for me having to drive hundreds of miles. I really don't think boatshed Plymouth have any interest in selling boats the one I am Interested in has been on the market for years.

I have just bought a Rodman 810 from Boatshed Wales, where the sale was managed throughout by Keith Doust. Keith was well informed about the boat,he was very helpful and answered all my questions honestly. He regularly kept me informed of the sale progress and coordinated the sale very professionally. This is the second boat I have bought from Boatshed Wales and my experience has been positive again. I have no problem recommending the company as a quality broker, and Keith has been excellent throughout.

I sold my boat through Boatshed Norfolk and I have to say it was a pleasure dealing with these guys.
I was constantly updated re viewings and was sent a report monthly showing interest levels compared with other boats they have.
The sales process was easy and I was paid the same day the buyer completed the sale.

Whatever happens you are spammers, you deliberately ask an email to get access to photos then your spamming starts, its the face of who you are, each time i use another email address you spam, after the last time, this time, i refuse too look at any boats you have for sale, l will look elsewhere, you are the only company that does this and after many years you are known for it. My company has never done it to our customers or potential customers, Good bye.

Just had a 2nd go at arranging to see two boats at Boatshed Suffolk. The agent is too busy to show us on a weekend, and gives the impression that he's not interested in our custom. I wouldn't use him to sell my boat!

There were times when … Yes…. I got frustrated however it was me nothing to do with Andy . He knows this business like no other and will sell your boat . Or find you one most suitable to what you need . Not what a “ Salesman” wants you to purchase.
Andy sold our boat when we were in a rough predicament. He knew our monohaul was the Best Buy in its price range. He knew that . And he guided the exact right client to the exact boat best for the client which happened to be our VESSELL.
Bottom line is Andy Topham knew how to make everyone happy before , during , and , after the transaction was finalized.

Refined stupidity! Alan the only sales agent at Phuket. He lists a boat for sale and leaves of vacation for three weeks. What’s more he takes vacation during the busiest time for boat trading. I called the owner Neil, he sits on a yacht in Key West is a drunk like Alan. These people are drunken fools. Strongly suggest NOT to use BoatShed.

In dealing with Keith during the purchase of my boat I felt he knew what I wanted and was very genuine and knowledgeable! He is a no nonsense guy who knows his stuff. This was quite an emotional purchase as the boat I was buying was my late fathers boat and Keith supported me throughout the process and we were able to conclude a deal in double quick time!

I would highly recommend dealing with Boatshed Wales to anybody taking the journey on buying a boat for the first time or trading up.

Boatshed is great - fast response (very important for me at this time). I'm in Brighton and my berthing contract is up so it is crucial to sell the boat quickly to save money! Very personable and they know their business. I recommend them.

If there was a way to give zero stars, I would. Read the other negative reviews of this company and pay attention, because I can verify that they are true.

Short version. I'm trying to buy a boat internationally from this so-called "international boat broker" because I currently live in Japan, but am a USA citizen and buying a boat before flying home. This should be a simple process: send money, get bill of sale, fly to Texas, swap title and pay taxes. Nope. Not with boatshed.

I contacted them three months ago and told them then that I was on a strict timeline and needed to complete the purchase asap or would need to renew my visa in Japan. E-mails went ignored for weeks, and I swear, I don't think one single "yes" or "no" question was ever answered, and no questions answered directly. Random ramblings to delay the process, to make excuses for not contacting back, and to hold out for higher commission. At one point I asked "is the engine operational". I couldn't get answers for nearly a week except vague "when I inspected it last it seemed to run fine". No information on age of engine, hours, nothing. Finally I demanded a video. No response for a week or so, then after many more e-mails "I couldn't get the engine to start". The broker then claimed that the delays in communications were because I hadn't signed the agreement. I reminded him that I had signed it a MONTH prior, and resent that document again and showed the e-mail date.

As far as all the information I finally found out about the boat, this came from the owner. Since "Steve" from Boatshed Texas would not answer any e-mails, I ordered a title search and tracked down the owner of the vessel. This person was a nice old man who answered every question I had about the vessel. So I decided to buy it, despite "Steve" being an incompetent clown. I haven't been able to do so, however, because of communication delays and overly complex and slow processes that are arbitrary features of Boatshed - and not required to purchase a boat.

Now, it's 3 weeks before my visa expires and although I've had the money ready for them for 3 months, I am unable to buy the boat of my dreams. At this point, I don't know if I'd buy it for 5 dollars, if I had to buy it through this brokerage.

Completely unprofessional, incompetent, and idiotic. Avoid this company at all costs. Do not purchase a boat from them, because they don't know anything about the boats they are selling, and they do not put customers first - only their commission.

I don't think that the wonderful Jason of Boatshed Plymouth could have been nicer or more helpful if he had tried! Thoroughly knowledgeable, professional and lovely, he was on hand throughout to help in any way he could. Nothing was too much trouble, and he was always happy to accommodate our needs. All communications were extremely prompt, courteous and clear. I would wholeheartedly recommend Jason and this company to anyone, and cannot wait to spend time on the beautiful boat that he helped facilitate our purchase of. Thank you :))
