No dogs allowed
Drove all the way from Blackpool to show our friends the lovely nursery we remembered but sadly was unable to enter because they only accept assisted dogs so disappointing it seems like more and more places are becoming dog unfriendly
Good stock of plants & excellent cafe
Visited Beetham this morning & as usual found it to be a very well stocked garden centre with an additional large outdoor nursery area with some good discounted plants to purchase that would grow on with some TLC. The cafe serves excellent food & the staff are courteous & friendly. It was very busy in the cafe so there was a short delay but with a little patience our order arrived fresh & hot. Spent a pleasant morning there & we have no complaints.
We won't be visiting again
We won't be visiting again the recent decision to ban dogs from the garden centre is a disappointment to say the least we visited regularly for food and plants there is no reason for this decision we will not be visiting again
Customers with dogs not welcome.
Purchased many items from Beetham Nurseries in the past. Visited today to buy some plants to find that dogs are no longer admitted except in nursery growing area.
Asked a member of staff the reason for change and received very abrupt response. Left!
Can understand no dogs in shop area but they could create access to the outdoor garden centre.
I am sure they have had many regular customers with well behaved dogs. Clearly their custom is no longer welcome.
Will be going elsewhere, with our dog, in future.
Ban on dogs.
We’ve visited Beetham for many years and always enjoyed our experience from dining there to buying plants and perusing the beautiful homewares they had to offer. But when my family and I arrived to have lunch on the 7/4/26 and found that dogs were no longer welcome I asked at customer service and got a rather lame excuse why! I expressed how saddened and also how ostracised we all felt. Beetham should look at Cark garden centre who not only allow dogs in their plant/garden areas but also inside and outside of the cafe. The staff are kind and friendly and the food is truly exceptional! Flixton garden centre and Bents garden centre close to where I live ALL permit dogs and I’ve never seen any mess or damage to anything belonging to any of the centre’s. We will not be returning to Beetham now so they’ve lost my custom.

After several visits with our very placid dog we arrived today to find we are no longer welcome. If you have had trouble with some owners and dogs I would suggest you ban them and not the majority of responsible dog owners. We and our money went elsewhere,as I suggest other dog lovers do.
The big problem is no dogs allowed any…
The big problem is no dogs allowed any more! My dogs have been coming to the garden centre since they were born, never put a foot wrong! They are devastated that they are no longer allowed, so we have to pay for the few disgraceful people that allow their dogs to misbehave, and if their dogs make a mess don’t clean up immediately! We use to come a few times a week to buy plants etc and have something to eat. We have spent a fortune there, but can no longer visit and have to go to Lancaster Centre instead! Please let Molly and Margot back!
Not for the disabled
Firstly I did speak to the lady in charge who was very apologetic and did thank me for my complaint.
My husband is disabled and has a mobility scooter, because of the lay out of the plants outside he couldn't get around any of the hexagonal plant displays
because of the angles and to be honest I got fed up of trying to push the trolley through them so gave up so missed out looking at some of the plants, went inside and he went down one aisle to look at something and ended up getting stuck because he didn't have the space to swing the scooter round because of the display at the end of the aisle, I ended up having to move 20 full buckets for him to get around, we appreciate that you want and have to have stock to sell its a shop at the end of the day but the biggest space and that had no one in it was the furniture area, I do think someone needs to sit in a mobility scooter or even a wheel chair and see how far and how difficult it actually is trying to manoeuvre around, im afraid its not disability friendly😔
Straight rows plenty of space at the ends makes it easier for everyone also nothing is missed that way, im 100% positive people miss things and that is missed sales
Dogs no longer welcome
Arrived today to find that dogs are no longer welcome. We have been customers for over 25 years but sadly will be taking our custom elsewhere.
Not dog friendly
Not dog friendly. Just travelled 50 miles to buy some garden planters and have lunch in the cafe only to find they have changed their rules and don't allow dogs. About to drive away and spend my money elsewhere.
They've Banned Dogs :(
After many years of being in business, on 12th January 2026 they decided to ban dogs as there had been too many incidents and to ensure Beetham Nurseries is a safe and pleasant environment for everyone. As the majority of shops, cafes, pubs allow dogs in most of the Cumbria, this is a strange decision. I don't know what is constitutes "too many incidents" or what these incidents are, but if most of the rest of Cumbria are happy to allow dogs then I do not understand this decision. Will they be banning children and adults that cause too many incidents, because I'm sure they have as many incidents, if not more than dogs. Of course, Beetham Nurseries can ban dogs if they want, but I for one shall never visit again and hope other dog parents feel the same as me. The gifts and plants are always way dearer than other places, but I go to wander round and if I see something I like I will buy it. Over the past years I have purchased several expensive trees, the last one costing over £500. Of course, people will still visit and pay the overinflated prices, so me not visiting will have very little impact. This is a backward step in this time when more and more people take their dogs everywhere with them. In Northern Italy most places allow dogs, even supermarkets - they have special shopping trollies for your dog to sit in.
Great cafe & Garden Centre
Great garden centre with excellent cafe. The breakfast menu is particularly good, with great coffee. Most of the staff are very friendly.
I particularly like the broad range of plants and trees available - I’ve never been disappointed.
The main cafe at Beetham is a joke…
The main cafe at Beetham is a joke virtually every time we go it’s the same. We queue outside waiting for a free table, despite there being a number of free tables when we eventually get inside. 30 minutes we waited and had to actually ask if they could clear a table for us to be seated at, only to discover there were 3 empty tables! The cakes and meals are over priced as well.
Amazing customer service.
Amazing customer service.
I recently purchased a set of garden furniture and from start to finish Julie was fantastic!
She was so helpful, going above and beyond normal customer service.
Delivery was exactly on time and I couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of the furniture.
Had the misfortune to visit the cafe…
Hate leaving bad reviews but the business needs to learn from it. Had the misfortune to visit the cafe (LH side as another reviewer described it). Time was 11:30 and the staff member begrudgingly passed us the breakfast menu to immediately tell us we couldn’t order from it as they were changing to the lunch menu. Didn’t even offer the lunch menu till we asked for it!
No interest in customers or providing good service.
Shame as the food was nice and the garden centre itself was lovely.
Please rethink the trolley location?
The quality and range of plants/trees/shrubs is fabulous and the shop has a really good range of products. The main issue is the location of the carts/trolleys. They’re only available before you enter. They’re quite heavy and not the easiest to manoeuvre around narrow aisles so it would be nice if they were situated out near the actual plants section. Once you’ve decided what you want, you need to go back through the shop and then drag the cart back through again - being careful not to crash into any of the displays as you navigate your way amongst chutneys, house plants, giftware and garden furniture. Yes you could take a trolley from the outset but it’s genuinely a bit too bulky to have in the gift shop area and this then means you have to drag it around while you meander the aisles of beautiful plants. If you do take one from the start but you leave it unattended, someone will relieve you of it in no time as everyone is frustratingly looking round saying ‘where are the trolleys?’
I’ve heard people voice their frustration every single time I’ve been but nothing has ever changed.
One last point is just to say the food in the cafe is lovely and well worth a visit but the staff in the smaller cafe to the left of the building, need to acknowledge customers waiting to be served. When it’s half full and with 4 staff visibly working behind the counter, it’s not good customer service to just ignore them for 5 minutes. People will get fed up and walk out. We did. It takes seconds to just smile and say ‘Be with you shortly’.
Excellent Garden Cafe at Beetham Nurseries
The Garden Cafe at Beetham Nurseries is excellent. I have had breakfast here twice in the past week. Quality of food is excellent, and is the same quality that you get at a good hotel. Also, I was very impressed with the staff / quality of service. Today - Saturday / Christmas Eve: Most of the staff were teenagers / early twenties. And are probably part-timers. The staff work well as a team. And they provided the quality of service that you usually only get from older, more experienced staff. Thank you.
Great place to visit
Called today to buy a birthday present for a friend. After looking round the garden centre we decided to visit the cafe whilst deciding what to buy. We were welcomed at the door, shown to our table and given a menu. We ordered and received our drinks very quickly and the food shortly after. The hot chocolate was excellent and the food (Cumberland sausage ciabatta and bacon ciabatta) was equally excellent. We were impressed with the staff who were constantly on the go clearing tables and wiping them down within seconds of departing customers so that there were always tables available for new comers. A great experience all round. Well done to everyone.
Fast and helpful
Happy to be able to order topsoil from a local company. It was delivered fast by a friendly helpful chap. Will use again if the need arises.
Outstanding service!!
Outstanding service. I tried to 'check out' an extremely heavy item but unfortunately it wasn't available for delivery to my area. As Beetham were the only place in the entire country who had it in stock (that I could find), I telephoned them, they did some research, agreed a delivery price with me and 48 hours later, it's here at my house. I really couldn't ask for more, thank you all!
