Beacon CRM - Brilliant, but....

Beacon CRM is, essentially, a relational database like many others, but this one is built for Charity management and at first glance looks really good.
I'm used to working with relational databases, and write databases with Filemaker Pro (another very flexible relational system). So I was expecting to tear into Beacon and set it up quickly for the Charity I'm working with. No point in writing one in FileMaker if all this is there for the taking.
But after four days looking at a trial version, I'm not finding it as easy or straightforward as others clearly do. Part of the problem is that there isn't a single 'instruction manual' with the tables, their fields, and relationships clearly mapped out. It's all there, but you have to read different 'courses' on different web pages (or set out in 'guides'), which take you through the basics bit by bit - fine if you're new to databases, but I found myself wanting to see the tables, which fields are in which tables, and the relationships so I could understand how different tables are linked in relationship.
None of this is mapped (or I've not been able to find it), so I've been left scratching my head in frustration. Trying to set up a Volunteer section with a form and the relevant management cards for the Volunteer team leader has stumped me. A slightly more complex 'ask' for selling shares in blocks of 50 for a Community Benefit Society has me totally lost and waiting for the customer development team to log in.
And although the development support staff are quick to respond, they only work Monday to Thursday.
But these are 'newbie' findings. Looking at the database, it's clear that once I understand how the relationships between the tables actually work, then this will be a very good solution for us.
Meanwhile.... its early Saturday morning and I'm waiting for Monday when the development staff log on....

Beacon - a user's feedback

Really helpful staff who reply promptly to our queries, and gently point us in the right direction.
Over time as we get more data on there and increase our user skills we will see more benefit to using the CRM and get even more value out of it.
Great idea having a product designed with charities in mind.

Beacon is what a CRM should be

Beacon is what a CRM should be! From support to functionality and humour built in as standard - I can't say we've looked back since we switched to them several years ago. We have a large database and complex functionality for which the team at Beacon have turned into a user friendly, highly utilised single point of truth for what we do.

Straightforward and very efficient CRM

I was very wary of changing to a new CRM system after being on the old one for 18 years!, how wrong could I be. The help and support received from Beacon from the actual set up of the system (which had to be done via teams not in person due to lockdown) to the continuing support now, can not be faulted. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

Everything is very straightforward and logical. If there is a procedure that you would like added, this is very efficiently implemented within days.

This is a great CRM

This is a great CRM, which all our team use in different ways, and the Beacon team are always looking for ways to make it better. it is intuitively easy to get started with creating records, very user friendly, and there is always someone on hand if you need a bit of extra help. There are regular opportunities for training in the finer points, and a wealth of videos and tutorials if you want to dive deep. My only grouse is personal. As an organisation we haven't touched the sides of what Beacon can do for us and I could get lost all day playing in it.

Excellent support for small charities

We're a small charity and have been using Beacon as our Fundraising CRM for over two years. We're really happy with it. It's very user friendly and integrates with other tools we use like Justgiving. The support is really quick to respond and very helpful. They always take the time to understand what you need and make it work! We would definitely recommend it.

This CRM system is really good

This CRM system is really good and easy to use. I have been using it within the organisation for the past 3.5 years and I found grown to love it. One of the great things that it does is remove the need to keep, write up and submit Gift Aid claims to HMRC as it prepares it for you to submit. I have also found it easy to teach to other members of the organisation and they are getting to grips with their aspect of it quickly. Thanks you to the Beaconeers.

Flexible, reasonable price, does exactly what we need

We have now had Beacon as our CRM for over 3 years. It is very flexible and does exactly what we need and more. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The price is very reasonable. Top marks from me.

The best Charity CRM around

I've used numerous CRM at charities I've worked with.

Beacon is by far the most cost effective, easiest to use and best for fundraising, membership and volunteer management.

I'm about to implement it again with a charity I work closely with.
