A Fresh Start for Grimalkin
After both having Battersea rescue dogs for 17 years we decided to visit Battersea once again to rescue a cat to join us in our new home.
The team at Battersea explained how the adoption process works and matched us to our cat Grimalkin (was Aubergine).
An appointment to meet Grimalkin was arranged after asking some questions about us and our home. After a successful meet and greet we all went home together.
The service throughout has been exceptional, the team clearly care about and enjoy finding the cats and dogs new homes after tough periods in their lives.
We would happily recommend and return to Battersea in the future.
Thank you

After being contacted by BC&D home spending at least an hour on phone about regarding a dog that might be suitable for us.We decided to go and visit the dog next day only to receive a call an hour later to be told the dog probably wouldn’t suit us feeling very depleted and knocked my confidence for six feel like put through Gestapo interrogation all for nothing.
Wont be using BC&D hone again.
Let's hear it for Battersea
We were SOOOOooooooo impressed with the interview process and all the helpful advice received. The adoption interviews were certainly fairly stringent and in-depth but also speedy so that our applicantion was processed and completed within a few days. Now our new arrival is happily ensconced into the household and we all, humans and dogs, couldn't be happier.

We recently rescued our cat Gus from Battersea Old Windsor. Battersea and the fantastic team were helpful from start to finish and made the process so easy. Gus has settled fantastically into his new home and is the perfect addition to our family. We can’t thank Battersea, including the team and the vets enough for everything they have done!

Absolutely seamless experience just purrrfect
Absolutely seamless experience. Looking for two kittens. Filled in an online application and was contacted almost immediately with details of potentially suitable ones.
Without exception all telephone calls and subsequently emails were answered quickly and efficiently.
The processes and procedures were super efficient and comprehensive. Always looking at the best interests of the animals in their care first and foremost but most importantly checking that people adopting are fully informed about the nature of each of the animals and that we were a good match. There were no compromises. So would highly recommend this caring but highly professional faultless service. Picked up our new kittens today. Just purrrfect.

Our wonderful dog.
We have had our dog a year now. Battersea were great, they listened to what we wanted and needed in a dog. As we have a cat we needed a dog that was compatible with our cat. They found us the perfect dog who gets on well with our cat and has settled in well with our family.

After my first rescue from old Windsor 20 years ago it’s so nice to go back and rescue another dog and to see that the love and care you give these dogs while they are looking for new homes has not changed thank you so much for giving me a new little girl to love and mend a very broken heart

Very impersonal service
Applied to re-home a small dog, via the online registration process, didn't specify breed, age etc kept it quite open thinking it would increase my chances. I had an automated email to acknowledge my registration, a second automated email about 6 weeks later to say I should think about applying elsewhere and then a third automated email to say sorry we can't help you. Reading other reviews I can see people received human contact to discuss their interest further. In my experience it was a very impersonal service and in the end it was a case of 'computer says no'. I have no idea why I have been booted out of their system, and I don't know why the time limit for waiting is 3 months. No doubt I'll continue to get harassed by the sales people they have on the streets pleading for your money. This experience has put me off rehoming and I now have a very negative view of Battersea Dogs and Cats.

We were helped every step of the way
We were helped every step of the way. From seeing our cat on the website to picking her up. What an amazing place Battersea is, each cat has it's own space with every comfort they need.
We were lucky, our cat made herself at home very quickly, needless to say she has us wrapped round her paw. I would recommend rehoming a cat or dog to give them a loving forever home, its very rewarding.

Do not trust
I registered an interest to rehome/adopt a dog and was interested in a little puppy who would have been the perfect addition to our family. I received an email that day stating unfortunately that little pup had already been reserved. I was of course upset and asked if she became available again I would be very much interested. The next day (Friday 31st July) I received a phone call from a lovely lady who was pleased to inform that the pup was back up for rehoming. I was absolutely delighted! The lady went through thoroughly a lengthy chat on everything I needed to do, to be aware of and due to the 3 day reservation window everyone in our household needed to be there at the viewing/picking up so we were booked in for Sunday 02 August. Our daughter had to rearrange her work schedule to accommodate this requirement. Saturday 01 August, one day before viewing and with the potential of taking our new pup home I received another call from one of health care nurses regarding the pups medical history. We went through again, a lengthy conversation and at the end she was happy and couldn't wait to see us the following day. Sunday 02 August, the day of viewing and high potential of bringing her home my family and I got up excited to tackle the 2.5 hour journey. Half way through this journey I received a call from a horrid lady saying we won't be able to collect and take our pup home because they need written permission from my council landlord therefore the pup will go back up as available. This was not expressed when signing up the initial registration, nor at the lengthy telephone calls!! She also stated we could get written permission but this would take 5 days and by the time they had received it the pup would have probably been rehomed. I begged and pleaded for her to keep the pup reserved until we were able to get the permission but she refused point blank! We had to turn back empty handed and I cried all the way home. Because of that 3 day window, there is no way people can arrange and get things sorted in time. I emailed Battersea when we finally arrived home upset and now I have received a response from rehoming and welfare manager Jay who states during the application I stated I owned my own home and this is why there has been confusion. I was not asked if my home was owned or rented, all I was asked was how many rooms and condition of garden. If Battersea thought I owned the home why on earth would they call on the day of collection asking for written permission from a landlord?????
I used to support Battersea until their staff started harassing the infirm.
I supported Battersea Dogs and Cats Home but after today, I never will again.
Another animal charity will benefit instead.
I am looking after my 98 year old father and need to visit my local Co-Op several times a day.
On my first visit two of their young representatives attempted to engage me in conversation in order to sign me up to contribute further.
On my second visit they again attempted the same to which I replied that I was not interested.
On the third visit, again they harassed me on the way in and on the way out and a verbal altercation ensued.
If I see them outside again, I will not hesitate to dial 999 and request Police assistance.
If Battersea volunteers or staff employ such boiler room tactics
outside Richmond Road Co-Op TW1 again, I will tie up a friends guard dogs ( which came from Battersea via myself ) and they can enjoy the pleasure of being constantly harassed.
I am an elderly wheelchair user and this situatiin will not be allowed to continue.

The care Battersea take in placing animals
The care you took in checking that I was an appropriate owner for THE BEST DOG IN THE WORLD. Thanks to Battersea for providing Monty with the wonderful Nicola his Foster Carer who has done an amazing job in being his mummy for over 5 months. Thanks to Battersea Vet Vincent who mended his leg and all the nursing care he received. He is settling in and lies on the sofa of his choice, my bed or the cool tiles kicking his legs in the air which I take as approval of his new home. THANK YOU

Before approaching BattThey found the perfect match for both of usrsea
Before approaching Battersea, I had struggled to get responses from some of the other large rehoming organisations. Battersea’s approach was completely different. They spoke to me multiple times a week, took the time to understand my circumstances and what I could offer a dog, and actively worked to find the right match.
In March, I adopted my American Bulldog, Juicebox then called Tulip and I genuinely believe Battersea found the perfect match for both of us.
They were open and honest about everything they had observed while she was in their care, including some nervousness around handling and unfamiliar situations. Even the day before I was due to visit, they called to let me know that they had seen a new behaviour from her, talked through any concerns I had and double-checked that I still wanted to meet her, with no judgment or pressure either way.
The entire process was about determining whether we were genuinely right for one another. They also involved my parents because they would be helping to care for her. It always felt as though their priority was finding the right long-term home rather than simply getting a dog out of kennels.
Their support did not end when I took her home. They have continued to provide advice and reassurance as she has settled in, and it has always felt as though they genuinely care about how we are both doing.
Juicebox has turned out to be an incredibly calm, affectionate and wonderfully goofy dog. Battersea could only tell me about the dog they had seen in kennels, but their honesty gave me the preparation and confidence to let her reveal the rest of herself in her own time.
I will always be grateful to Battersea, not only for bringing us together, but for taking the time to find the perfect match for both of us and continuing to support us afterwards.

Highly recommend Battersea
Molly called me to discuss my application, and it never felt like a tick-box exercise. She wanted to know everything about where I lived, my experience with dogs, my lifestyle, and what I was looking for in a companion. It was obvious that every question had one purpose: making sure the right dog found the right home. I came away from that conversation feeling listened to and reassured that Battersea genuinely puts the dogs first.
When I was invited for an appointment, the care and attention continued. Every step was explained clearly, and Molly took the time to answer my questions without ever making me feel rushed. It was organised, professional and incredibly welcoming.
Meeting Phoebe is something I’ll never forget. Rather than simply handing her over, Molly left us together so we could get to know each other and see whether we clicked naturally. It showed how much she cared about making the match work for both of us. I had taken Jay, my elderly rescue dog, with me, and she was incredibly thoughtful about introducing them properly. She took her time, making sure both dogs were comfortable, relaxed and happy before moving forward. It was another example of how carefully Battersea approaches every adoption.
Molly’s knowledge and genuine love for the dogs shone through in everything she did. From my very first conversation with her to collecting Phoebe, she was kind, patient and incredibly supportive. She never made me feel like I was asking too many questions and always wanted to make sure I felt confident about bringing Phoebe home.
When it came time to collect Phoebe, Molly explained everything thoroughly. She went through Phoebe’s routine, her needs, her personality and any advice that would help her settle into her new home. It was clear that although Phoebe was leaving Battersea, she still cared deeply about her future.
What impressed me just as much was the support afterwards. Kortnie’s follow-up calls weren’t simply checking a box—she genuinely wanted to know how Phoebe was settling in, whether I had any concerns, and if there was anything she could do to help. Knowing that support was there made such a difference during those first few weeks and showed that Battersea’s care doesn’t end when you leave with your new dog.
Adopting Phoebe has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and Battersea made the entire experience feel supportive, thoughtful and incredibly personal.
A heartfelt thank you to Molly for guiding us through the adoption process, and to Kortnie for the wonderful aftercare and continued support. Your professionalism, kindness and dedication are outstanding. Thanks to you all, Phoebe has found her forever home—and I have found the most wonderful companion. I will always be grateful.

Very accurate information about our rescue dog so we knew what to expect and things she might be worried about. They keep in touch and are there for support. Very pleased how she has settled in and think Battersea do an amazing job with the cats and dogs they care for. This is our second rescue dog from Battersea and after our first experience trusted them to find us a dog who fitted into our life style.

My wonderful new friend - Ted the cat (aka Battersea named Peace)
I rehomed a wonderful cat on 5th June 2026. We have become firm friends and although I haven’t had him long, I wouldn’t be without him now. The staff at Battersea were very knowledgeable and kind (particular shoutout to Mercedes), and the whole rehoming experience was excellent and stress free for both Ted the cat and me! Highly recommended, of course!
