I am compelled to formally document my extremely disappointing and misleading experience with Autozone Barnsley regarding the purchase of a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Match.
Prior to collection, I explicitly informed the dealership of a faulty clutch and other concerns. Despite this, Jayon repeatedly assured me that the vehicle was in proper working order and that all faults had been addressed, which proved to be false upon taking possession of the car.
The dealership enforces a policy stating that the vehicle cannot be delivered on the day the contract is signed, as they require 14 days to ‘bring the car to order’. This delay feels deliberately designed to trap customers in a binding contract without the opportunity to inspect or reject the vehicle promptly. This policy strongly resembles a tactic to lock buyers into the purchase regardless of later discoveries.
I was pressured into purchasing an additional warranty, which was arranged and paid for using my own bank card, along with the payment for the vehicle’s road tax. These transactions were handled directly by the dealership without my full consent or control. Consequently, I am now unable to cancel the warranty, as it was arranged on my behalf without clear agreement, effectively trapping me in an unwanted financial commitment.
Following the sale, I repeatedly attempted to contact Becky, the supposed aftersales representative, but she was consistently unavailable and unresponsive. I have serious doubts about her actual role or existence, as all efforts to reach her were ignored.
This pattern of behaviour — false assurances from Jayon, restrictive delivery policies, lack of aftersales support, forced financial commitments, and overall avoidance — leaves me with the clear impression that I was intentionally misled and abandoned by the dealership.
Such conduct represents a serious breach of trust and may constitute violations under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I am now burdened with costly repairs that I was assured had been completed, and with unwanted financial obligations imposed without proper consent.
I strongly advise prospective buyers to exercise extreme caution, insist on independent mechanical inspections, and keep detailed records of all communications and transactions. Based on my experience, Autozone Barnsley demonstrates a concerning disregard for customer rights and professional integrity.

Pre-sale was brilliant, after sale not so much
Pre-sale was brilliant! Lee was really patient, understanding, helpful, and really made me feel at ease buying my car. On the day I went to collect the car, I had an appointment for 12. When I arrived, 3 members of staff completely ignored me in the showroom literally walked past me, no acknowledgment, no “be with you in a second” nothing. Eventually I got the attention of one of them who said he would go and get someone for me. Liam came over and dealt with me from there. He was friendly to start with however he asked for my bank card (to set up the direct debit for road tax) which he was going to take into the back office out of my sight. When challenged on this and asked if I could set up the tax myself, he switched his attitude towards me, became a little short and the helpfulness ended. Once I had set up the tax he handed me the keys and left me to it. Clearly, they had their sale and were no longer interested. Customer service was horrendous. A shame really because up to this point I had a really good experience thanks to Lee.

You said the car would be ready today. My son got the train to Barnsley to get it. He got there for 12 noon and it’s now 17-20 and he has just left the garage. We live a long way from Barnsley. Oxfordshire. But overall a lovely car.

Ignoring claim after 2 weeks from sale
I bought a car.3days later car broke down,I did diagnostic and quotation for repair(that's what I have been ask to do by Autozone).I am calling every day 3 times.Everytime only reception answered and I heard:"Nobody available from after sale team or issue a ticket for call back.Totaly ignoring me.

Absolutely appalling experience – avoid at all costs
As someone who has worked in customer service for many years, I never leave negative reviews lightly. But this situation has been so disgraceful, I feel compelled to share my experience – not only so I might finally be taken seriously, but also to warn others.
Background:
Following an accident that wrote off my car, I was left in a difficult position due to an IVA that ends this year. Despite my limitations, I remained realistic and accepted a deal for a Peugeot 306 through Autozone, a car I was genuinely happy with – initially. I was told the car needed servicing and repairs before collection, which caused a two-week delay. During this time, I had to pay out of pocket for a rental car, and to add insult to injury, Autozone took the first month’s payment while they still had the car. They eventually corrected this by reducing my deposit, but the inconvenience was already done.
Where it all went wrong:
On day one of owning the car, the service light came on due to faulty parking sensors. Just three days later, the engine warning light followed. I immediately contacted Autozone, but every time I called, I was fobbed off with “the aftercare team is busy” and told I’d get a callback – which never came. It took five follow-up calls before someone finally told me to contact the third-party warranty company, 2020.
I did as advised and arranged for my car to be inspected at a garage that, while not “recommended,” was on the list of eligible service providers. Unfortunately, they were slow and unable to provide a letter-headed quote. By this point, I had owned the car for two weeks and driven it for five days. I was still paying for rental cars to get to work – all while chasing Autozone, who seemed completely uninterested in helping me.
After more calls and threats to return the car, I was finally put through to someone. I asked whether Autozone would cover the repairs, especially as a laundry list of faults had now been identified. I was told, “Yes, but let’s get a quote first.” Fair enough – I cooperated. I picked the car up and dropped it at another garage before heading overseas for a month-long work trip to Thailand.
And still, the nightmare continues:
The garage completed a report, estimating over £1,000 in essential repairs. The warranty company came back and told me Autozone approved just £500, expecting me to cover the rest. Let me stress again: this is for a car I have driven for only 7 days total.
From abroad, I’ve tried repeatedly to contact Autozone (Barnsley), racking up international call fees, only to receive the same empty promise: “Someone will get back to you.” No one has. No emails. No updates. No responsibility taken.
It’s hard not to feel that their dismissive attitude is because of my IVA – as if I don’t deserve proper service or support. Ironically, my financial situation is fine, and in just a year I’ll be in a position to upgrade. Had they looked after me now, I’d have happily returned. But instead, I’ve been ignored, mistreated, and left with a car that’s undrivable, while still making monthly payments – another of which is due next week.
By the time I return to the UK this weekend, I will have been away 33 days and my car still remains unfit for use. No one at Autozone is willing to step up and make this right.
I’ve since been advised by both the garage and others to escalate this to Trading Standards, which I intend to pursue.
In short:
Autozone took my money, sold me a faulty car, ignored my complaints, and now expect me to foot the bill for repairs – all within the first month of ownership. This company does not care about its customers, especially if you don’t fit their ideal profile. Proceed with extreme caution.

I got finance within half hour and all paperwork was done within 1hr and when I came to pick my car up the guy that helped me was a big help thankyou so much everyone that helped me jay was brilliant with me too so thankyou once again..My car is very good on fuel and a lovely car to drive I love it

Absolutely disgusting experience from…
Absolutely disgusting experience from start to finish, firstly I was told 2 weeks for the car. 2 weeks went by and was told the car was ready, as I was about to set off I get another phone call to say the mechanic has threaded the wheel hub and it wouldn’t be able to leave that day. 3 more weeks I was then waiting for 1 wheel hub to be replaced it took me to actually turn up at the garage for something to get done as each time I phoned I got someone will ring you back and they never did. They’ve put a dodgy mot on it too as when I’ve gone for new tires the wheel alignment had not been done and the front left wheel is buckled. They’ve used tipex on stone chips instead of actually repainting it. This company are cowboys and I would avoid at all costs. Lie after lie and problem after problem. The only reason my car is right now is because I’ve fixed it myself. Do not buy from here unless you want a car full of problems and a useless customer service team to go with it.
