Apex taekwondo and Ace Taekwondo
I would like to raise serious concerns about the handling of student personal injury insurance at Apex Taekwondo and Ace Taekwondo under Rick Simpson and Anissa Ishaq.
At the time, Mr. Simpson was responsible for insurance arrangements for all students at both clubs, which were formerly operated as Horizon Taekwondo.
I paid my daughter’s personal taekwondo insurance on time each year while she attended training, with the reasonable expectation that she would be covered during lessons. Following an injury sustained during a class in July 2025, I requested the insurance documentation and details required to make a claim to support her recovery.
Despite repeated requests over a period of nearly 11 months, I received no documentation and no direct contact details for the insurer. I was not even provided with the name of the insurer. The only response I received was that the matter was “being chased up.”
Parents who pay for student insurance are entitled to expect that the policy is active and that documentation will be provided promptly when required. I would therefore strongly advise other parents currently attending Apex Taekwondo and Ace Taekwondo to verify directly with the organization that their children are covered, and to request copies of the insurance certificate and insurer contact details for their own records. I would also recommend contacting the insurer directly to confirm that the relevant policies are live and active.
On *2 July 2026*, Mrs. Ishaq finally sent a photo of the insurer’s summary of cover. After I contacted the insurer myself, I received a prompt reply informing me that, as my daughter was under 16, she had no personal accident cover under the policy. The insurer also confirmed that neither Mr. Simpson nor Mrs. Ishaq had reported the incident to the national governing body for British Taekwondo, which should have been done within 48 hours. Neither had they reported the incident to the insurer.
I am appalled by the lack of care, accountability, and empathy shown by both instructors. They are responsible for a majority of students under 16. This is a message to all other parents with children currently training there: please arrange appropriate personal accident cover independently, as the policy they provide doesn't cover under 16s for personal accidents whilst training. Neither Mr. Simpson nor Mrs. Ishaq assisted with contacting the insurer and just dragged out the issue for a year causing unnecessary stress.
