Poor Service/Better Training
Something has changed. Service for the last two years has been overall awful. They can't follow simple instructions on mature CD's to transfer the interest to another account. They go thru all the actions putting you on hold and end up rolling the entire amount over into a new CD leaving me with no money. This has happened several times now. I don't trust them anymore and want out. I feel for people with complicated transactions.
Do not bank with Ally or get any loans
I banked with Ally for 2 years. We had a high checking and high savings. Without any notice, they closed our account and left us penniless waiting on them to send us certified checks from our accounts. We also had our Autistic son's account on there and they closed his also with no notice. We had no grocery, gas, or any money to pay bills. We tithe at our church and write checks to avoid the charges of paying on line. We also have an HOA where we live and write checks for that. Our church check and both HOA checks bounced due to the account closing. We had to pay late fees to the HOAs because of Ally. I would not recommend this bank to anyone. Sofi is much better.

Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service, They did not tell me when I use my Credit Card to make my payment that they would do it as a cash advance. My CC charges a fee plus my interest rate is alot higher on cash advances. Tried to speak to ally bank and they kept passing me around and when I call back and requested a Supervisor they sent me to hell where nobody answer the phone
Zero stars if I could!
Zero stars if I could!! I have (had) a checking account with them. They intermittently and randomly deny charges. Then when I call to verify the charge they tell me they can’t reverse it because it has been flagged by the security team. Completely unreliable! I even had them deny regular charges from automatic withdrawals for bill payments causing me to get charged for denied automatic payments! Once they refuse a charge they won’t overturn it even if I call! I tried to transfer money in from an an outside account. When it didn’t go through they froze my account completely! They have more control over my money than I do. Their customer service is useless. They have no power to do anything and are incredibly difficult to understand. I am cancelling my automatic paycheck deposits and I can’t wait to cancel this account!

NOT recommended. Extremely poor customer service. repeatedly. Lowers Money Market interest rate s with NO notification! Would not honor their claimed 1 day transfers and would not tell me why costing my lost interest of $60 for the additional 2 day wait.

Erratic Bill Pay
Ally apparently uses a third party for their bill pay service. I had a credit card payment scheduled electronically - as had been done every month prior. For some reason the payment was changed from electronic to a physical check being mailed without any notice to me that the change had been made. If the payment had been made electronically it would have been on time. As it was a mailed check - the payment was applied late resulting in interest charges. No one at Ally can explain why the payment was changed to a check, nor are they willing to pay my interest charges to date. The interest charges we solely the result of the third party bill pay service.

I needed to take a payment from a…
I needed to take a payment from a client thru zelle, but my bank didn't use it. I opened an account with Ally specifically for this transaction. I opened the account and my client made the payment. The transaction shows in my log as completed. I didn't want to wait the The lengthy amount of time that I figured it would have taken to get my debit card so I approved a friend's request to send the total to him through zelle and he was just going to give me the cash. From there my money disappeared. It has been a week since my only successful transaction with this bank and I still have not seen my money, only a promise to figure it out and get back to me, to let me know, within the next two weeks. This is embarrassing. Save yourself the time and stress. Bank somewhere else.

I was in good standing with Ally for years up until I lost my job and started to struggle financially. I called asking for help and go nowhere. My car ended up getting a Repo and i got it out as fast as I could paid the balance in FULL!! I was able to get the $2,100 is what they said I had to pay. So that is what I did. They NEVER motioned a fee that would be added after a repo... Months ago I called asking about the late fees and why I still had the late fees and another fee when I just paid $2,100... No one could answer my questions and stated they would put in a request to remove the fees.. Months later I still have these fees and everyone I have talked to says it is because of the repo that I just make my mini payments and do not pay the fees that are at this point accumulating. Yesterday I called after 5PM because I work during the day I spent a hour on the phone was transferred a total of 6 times repeated my personal information, (My address, my SS#, my phone number)6 times!!!! I asked for a supervisors several times and was told NO supervisors work after 5PM!!! So they just let CUSTOMER SERVICE run wild during the night and no one knows what they are talking about, no one speaks English the language barriers are just insane!! The staff is so disrectful it's not even funny.. They think it's hilarious to just transfer you back and forth to people.. you can here them all laughing in the back ground.. Each person I talked to talked over me, told my I am only concerned about my fees and that I need to be concerned about just pay my bill.. that I am 41 days past due... but yet they have my information in front of them and see that I have a payments set up for Friday to pay my past due balance.. I refuse to pay these fees... No one can explain the fees.. Late fees for a repo that was paid months ago is wild to me... After $2,100 paid.. There should be NO late fees... The car would have never got reopped in the first place had I not lost my job due to getting a ill... No one here is compassionate, no one here is understanding they do not care if you are sick, dying or care about you at all. They just want money.. I am making a complaint to the BBB as well.. This bank is a joke!!! no one is professional.. no one here cares about what you have to say.. They literally want to upset you to were you just give up trying..

zero stars if i could. applied for a lease on a tesla and they would not approve a lease application even though we submitted 13 pieces of personal financial evidence including tax returns, retirement and checking acct statements, etc. proving we could MORE than afford a small lease. finally after hours and hours of dealing with this, they approved at a very high APR. It is beyond ridiculous; so if you are retired and want to lease a car to take advantage of some tax incentives, look elsewhere than this worthless bank
Worst customer services and lacks efficiency
I have been dealing with Ally Bank for three weeks trying close out my deceased father's accounts that I was joint on. Each time I call I speak to people that's are hard to understand and extremely inefficient. They had been given the proper death certificate and executor paperwork and it still took two more calls and another week for them to tell me today it is being processed. I will never use Ally Bank and definitely don't recommend them. I have contacted and worked with many other banks and financial institutions and this one is by far the WORST!
Lied to
5 Years of solid payments. Website error caused a late fee. Contacted and told them I'll pay off entire remaining balance if they waive the late fee cause by their error on their site. Told me to make the payoff come back and they will reimburse the fee. I did that, came back and told that it's not possible. They Lied to me and got me to pay it off and then kept the late fee they were going to waive. Just flat out lied to me. Fraud. Don't trust them. Won't ever use them again for anything.
Incompetence. Online Bank Can't Run a Website
Problems logging in even though using the right password and had enabled a numeric pass code years ago. 07/29/2025 On the phone with Ally for more than 1 and 3/4 hours. Despite all the multiple verifications she was decades off about how long I've been a customer. Two different Tech support couldn't resolve. The second gave up and disconnected the call. Not the first time. Finally able to log in today 07/30; obviously they fixed what was messed up. Now can't get back on. Ally saw that I moved funds to another bank so they locked me out. Will be filing a complaint with the New York State Department of Banking and Insurance.
Deceitful
I was with ally bank for 11 years and I have never seen a company treat a customer like this? Ally Bank was so proud to report my 1 payment that I missed and it wasn't even my fault.
I wrote to the ally bank main office about this payment and no reply at all. Straight up nothing.
So I moved all but $200.0 out of this place and deleted my 1 car loan payment that was deducted from my account every month. So ally bank tried twice to pull money (knowing I was leaving this hideous bank) from my checking account knowing I only had 200.00 in case I needed money until the funds went into my new bank account.
This place is full of inconsiderate scum bags who lie and try to jam you up with your finances and payments, especially when you leave them.
Here is more things to consider when opening an account here. If you need any kind of information from ally bank good luck. Full of lies and they hold important information from you that you might need at anytime.
This place is corrupt and repeat saying they will send this information out and never do even though it's your information.
I would think LONG and HARD if you are looking into opening an account of anything from ally bank.
I am not saying this because of my anger towards this Ally corrupt bank. I call it like I see it.
Good Riddance
Ally Bank is a total disaster.
I had my inheritance money deposited into an Ally account last year, and it’s been hell ever since. They locked my debit card without notice, leaving me with no access to my own funds. And trying to reach them? Good luck. Their chat support is basically a black hole.
Just last week, I disputed a charge from Amazon. No confirmation. No update. Today I finally got through to someone who told me the dispute was already “closed”—yet no one ever contacted me. Now they’re saying I might get a call “by Friday.”
Oh, and they had the nerve to slap a smiley face emoji on that message, like I’m not talking about missing money. 🙃
This bank clearly doesn’t care about communication, transparency, or customer access to funds. If you value your money, do not bank with Ally.

It started out well but soon went downhill. It might be fine as long as you just put money in it, but don't ask them to be like a real bank. Their website is frequently down in one area or another. Their customer service is horrible. Those alone should drive you away from this all-online bank. But it gets worse. Sometimes you can log into their site from a PC but not their app, using the SAME credentials. AND sometimes they block you from your accounts for no good reason and then make you jump through hoops (and sacrifice an hour of your time) to remove the block, and then they act like they've done you are favor, all the while acting like robots. Run, don't walk, away.
