To be fair
To be fair, I have a 1948 home with a metal roof. The metal might hang over a bit more than the company was prepared to handle.
Linda is the owner of this company. She came out and quoted me $3,599 for 233' of gutters and downspouts, 38' of cutting back some metal on the roof edge in one place, and 167' of leaf guard. I went with her instead of a competitor because she wrote me out a quote and was concerned about the color choice and seemed to be generally on top of things. I'm sure I'd still enjoy having her as a neighbor, etc.
Chris the installer then came out and did the work in a day's time.
Then the rain came. The rain ran off the gutters and over the leaf guard and onto the ground right around our house. This is what we were trying to prevent in the first place and why we spent $3,600 to have gutters installed.
So, I contacted Linda. She was very responsive and sent Chris back. He came out a few times, today being what will probably be the last time due to the way communication has gone between me and these two individuals. As you can imagine, the tone of the communication became decreasingly friendly as I had Chris come out several times. I'm probably mostly at fault for this because of my frustration of seeing things that were wrong and being told that they're fine or that I wasn't seeing things right.
The leaf guard never worked and made it so that it was almost like I didn't have gutters. Chris and Linda both assured me repeatedly I need leaf guard. They also several times mentioned to me when I asked questions or challenged what was clearly not working with the fact that they've been in business for 26 years and so I should essentially not believe my lying eyes.
In the end I removed most of the leaf guard myself (which made the gutters work as I wanted them to work all along) and had Chris do the rest today (because some of it was screwed in). I'll need to clean the gutters of leaves but I feel like that's a better solution than having practicaly nonexistenct gutters I spent $3,600 for.
I tried to get at least part of the $1,169 they charged me for the non-working leaf guard but Linda would not budge. I tried to give the leaf guard back to Chris today and he wouldn't accept it. So, now I just have a bunch of leaf guard.
Linda says she'll continue to honor my warranty but Chris told me today if he has to come out again he's going to charge me. I told him to go ahead and charge me whatever he wants. Honestly, I don't want to take advantage of them. I just want gutters that work!
You can probably tell this hasn't been the most encouraging relationship. :(
But overall, if you have a certain type of roof (not a 1948 metal roof, I guess) then their gutters are just fine and if you want leaf guard they'll be happy to sell it to you and install it for you. I see a lot of good ratings for Linda and Chris here so I have to assume that most people don't have all the difficulties I've had.
But if you notice things not working, just expect that at some point they'll tell you they've been in business for 26 years and that you probably just don't know what you're talking about.
