The contractSold by one company, moved by another, three items never showed up, and then he stopped answering
The contract. Signed May 26, 2026 with American National Movers LLC for a small shared load from Stuart, Florida to San Diego, California. Around $3,600. First available delivery date of June 15. No maximum delivery date anywhere in the document. I did not catch that at the time. Check for it.
The pickup. June 2. The crew and truck were not American National Movers. They were Aegis Moving and Storage out of Dade City, Florida. Nobody mentioned a second company at any point during booking or signing. On loading day I was told to send $1,820 by Venmo to a personal account in a name I'd never seen. That payment method and that payee appear nowhere in my contract.
The public record on both companies:
- American National Movers LLC, USDOT 4206216, registered March 2024 out of an apartment at 739 W 186th St Apt 6B in Manhattan. Zero power units. Operating authority NOT AUTHORIZED.
- Aegis Interstate Transport Inc, DBA Aegis Moving and Storage, USDOT 4447996, 14821 10th Street, Dade City FL. Operating authority NOT AUTHORIZED, no MC number, one truck, two drivers, and household goods listed as cargo carried. Same address as a previous Aegis entity, USDOT 3925523, which was 100 percent out of service with cancelled insurance.
Both of those are free to look up on the FMCSA SAFER site. I checked both again on August 22, 2026 and the status has not changed.
The delivery. Four dates promised, four dates missed: June 15, June 21 to 23, June 29, and July 8. Long stretches of no reply in between. My things eventually arrived in California in early July, about a month past the first available date.
The missing items. Three things never came off the truck: a 50 inch TV, a mid century armchair, and a large area rug.
Frank at Aegis answered at first, and he was clear about it. In writing:
"I definitely know we have those they were mixed, not separated, and I seen them on the floor. We will get those shipped out on the next truck to California."
"I'm pretty sure the chair and the two rugs we have, but I will have them look for the TV. The items are not lost. They're in the warehouse and whatever is missing we will ship out on another truck."
He asked me for a list. I sent a written list and photos on July 10. Then I followed up on July 14, July 15, July 17, and July 20. On the 20th he wrote: "The chair and rug are secured I was told."
I told him not to worry about the TV, I'd bought a replacement, and that the rug and chair would be great to get whenever.
That is the last time Frank replied to me. On August 18 I asked how he intended to handle compensation if he wasn't going to deliver. Nothing. On August 21 I sent one word, "Frank?" Delivered, no reply.
Where it stands. I have filed with FMCSA (complaint 00286449), the New York Attorney General (intake 1-1293035072), the DOT Office of Inspector General, and the BBB (complaint 24996906).
What I'd do differently. Ask, in writing, before you sign: are you the carrier, or are you brokering this to someone else, and what is their USDOT number.
