NEW Member Online and Phone Experience - Awful

I am a new member. I simply attempted to log into my account and review member benefits. Over a period of 2 days, multiple attempts, reset passwords, password free security code attempts, the system keeps emailing me to tell me my password has been successfully changed, only to refuse to let me login. I attempted to call the number that popped up to try to resolve the issue by phone and AI representatives wouldn't let me break through the "medical alert promo" to get to a person. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST ONLINE experiences I have ever had. Sadly, I'm already ready to PAY to have my bank block AARP so they cannot debit my account next year, heck, even get a new bank card...anything to never pay for this level of poor service. I work as an Instructional Design professional, am no slouch when it comes to navigating the internet, apps and online platforms and still, it's been one system glitch after another. I literally sat silently as the AI representative asked me questions about medical alert that I never responded to, yet it kept yapping as though I did respond. I cannot imagine how someone who isn't computer savvy and has to rely on AARP's phone system and customer service could ever get anywhere. I am terribly disappointed.

Unable to redeem points in their…

Unable to redeem points in their rewards program for 3 months. Have chatted, emailed & called many times. Nothing is ever done. They just don't care about their subscribers. Have been a member for 14 years, will not renew. They should be ashamed regarding how their customers are treated. I think they feel they can provide poor service because we are seniors.

AARP does not stand behind their products they endorse

AARP does not stand behind their customers on Medicare. They promote and endorse United Health Care but when a situation arises they are no where to be found. I need a medication as a cancer patient I do not also need diabetes and I am pre diabetic and United Health Care will not approve a medication that despite my medical history and recent medical tests I obviously need. After running my wonderful doctor ragged writing appeal after appeal--add this--include this--each time getting denied we finally get an answer-after 6 months of paper work and appeals -NO we do not --even though it is on our formulary approve any medication for pre diabetes.--Cool--so not I get to get diabetes over time in addition to 4 other life threatening /dx's and when/until I get diabetes they will not approve it--United Health Care simply does not care--and all AARP will do is refer you to UHC--catch 22 --chasing a tail--waste of time ---time a sick person does not have --AARPand their endorsed health plan from United Health Care are -no service-companies---why am I paying dues??

I booked a car through the Avis–Expedia…

I booked a car through the Avis–Expedia platform promoted by AARP and was later fined £120 due to a congestion zone violation I wasn’t warned about at rental.

Despite repeated contact, AARP refused to help—denying any responsibility and offering no meaningful support, even though they profit from promoting these services. Their representative admitted they had no role in resolution and directed me to public information I already had.

AARP markets itself as a member advocate. My experience shows otherwise. Unless resolved by Sept. 5, I will be filing a small claims action. I expected better.

PT prior auth with non approval

1. I have been waiting for AARP UHC to approve addition PT appointments for me since my 7/15/25 appt was scheduled, but needed canceled, because they didn't give approval, in time for this appt.
2. I've had to cancel 2 additional weekly appointments after the 7/15 appointment, which includes my appointment tomorrow.
3. My PT provider is getting the runaround from them and they are told that they need to contact Optum. My PT provider called Optum and was told they needed to call AARP UHC, which they did and then requested a 3-way call with my provider, AARP UHC and Optum. Nothing ever came of that discussion.
4. I fell and fractured my right maleolus and tibia/fibula, not only fracturing the bones, but doing extreme tissue damage of my foot, ankle and lower leg.
5. My last original approved PT date was on 7/10, but it was decided by my PT, that I needed additional weekly PT, because I'm still having issues.
6. I have now had to cancel 3 additional PT appointments because of their inability to get with the program to approve additional visits.
7. This in my opinion is abandonment and could result in a poor recovery outcome, causing permanent problems for my complete recovery.

Issues In General

I have my annual renewal set up to be paid automatically but still receive mail. Also, I try to use my rewards points but I have never gotten anything for them. The only things that are certain are the E-cards that I won't spend points on. I also see the low annual fees to join and rewards for joining, which, of course, as a long standing member, I don't get. I don't know if I will renew. I am thinking about leaving AARP since it doesn't seem to do anything for me.

AARP website fails to address new…

AARP website fails to address new members with easy to understand navigation. This is further complicated by online customer service persons.
AARP management has FAILED to educate and train . Since there is no introduction about how to best navigate, it's not there. For example clicking on a link to companies who offer products or services is clumsy. Instead the end user like myself became frustrated with having to create a user id and password. Having to wait for authentication. That should connect with a simple click. For example to connect with BUDGET car rentals and selecting vehicle, date and strong upsale of additional insurance coverages is pathetic. Along with switch and bait practices. All of these experiences happen and I was totally unprepared and disappointed.

READ THE FINE PRINT!

I have been trying to CANCEL my life insurance with this company since May 28. I joined last year and received notification it was term life insurance and my rates would be increasing. I was given the option to convert to whole life insurance but the rates to convert to whole life nearly doubled! I looked around and found a policy I could afford and spoke with a representative, John Dublin, who assured me my policy was canceled.
I’m STILL receiving mail… EVERYTHING accept my refund check. Spoke with Alex in the cancellation department on 6-10 and was again told the policy was canceled and the refund check was going out last week. Received an email today stating my payment is due and the policy still shows inforce online. Spoke with Greg in the cancellation department today who stated the request is being handled by the back office and normally takes 7-10 days to process the cancellation!! REALLY??? SICK OF THE RUN AROUND!!

Paid $20, Got Sh*tty Tech in Return

I paid $20 for a yearly subscription, but I've rarely been able to login to my AARP Now app on my phone. Having the app is integral to taking advantage of its benefits, but if I can't log in, WTF is the point? When I call customer service they are able to fix the issue, but then the same problem keeps happening. I'm going to call them this week (THIRD time I'm calling them, BTW) but I'm not calling for help. I'm calling to tell them I'm not going to subscribe for their services next year because in spite of all their "supportive" language, they DON'T care about American seniors. If they DID, they would FIX the problem of not being able to log in to their precious app! Don't tell ME that I'm the ONLY person having issues with logging in🙄🤬! If they cared about us, they would fix it. Actions may speak louder than words, but INaction screams the loudest of all. This is, sadly, so typical of American businesses; declaring tthey care when, in fact, they don't care at all. They live by the first commandment of American marketing: "Profits Before People." And they don't care WHAT ages their customers are.

Don’t Bother and It’s a Bother

What a joke! Discounted car insurance for just under $2000 a year! I don’t think so! Bought top rated car insurance for $1300, on my own. All AARP is about is a marketing scheme to get you to spend money with AARP vendors.

AARP points are designed so customer loses it

I had AARP membership & I had lost 6160 points. i had never ever received any email about my points balance & received an email after losing 6160 points saying it got expired. I did reach out to chat Agent to reinstate my points back but she had pointed me to Terms & Conditions - in reality no one looks or fight with Terms & Conditions if the Org is friendly enough & at least provide one time exception.

AARP as a non profit org & the way I got treated no
profitable org also eat away had earned points & point for the first mistake (in case I did but I don't agree as I hadn't receive any notifications
until today)

Don't use the AARP travel service.

I've used AARP/Expedia travel numerous times to make travel arrangements, but will no longer do so. A month ago, we booked a resort for a week in Cancun. I received our confirmation and thought everything was set. A few days before departure, I went to their website to print the itinerary. To my surprise, our resort reservation had been canceled. I immediately called them to find out why it was canceled and why we were never notified. The representative could not tell us why it was canceled, nor why we were not informed. No help at all. I went directly to the resort site, they showed numerous rooms available. We booked a new reservation for the same size room, for the same week, at a lower price. Thankfully, all worked out as we had flight reservations which could not be changed. Will never use AARP/Expedia travel again.

AARP takes money from both sides.

I have been an AARP member for more than 15 years but I cancelled today. They are being paid to endorse United Healthcare Medicare Advantage insurance plans. United Healthcare has been accused of repeatedly delaying and denying appropriate medical care. The latest issue is United Healthcare is accused of paying nursing homes bonuses to not send residents who have United Healthcare Medicare Advantage insurance plans to the hospital when an emergency arises. United Healthcare calls this APK, admissions per thousand. They penalize nursing homes who send too many people to the hospital and they reward with bonuses nursing homes who keep their hospital admissions or transfers low. This is a disgusting practice. I questioned AARP about this and AARP admitted they are paid to endorse United Healthcare and then they tried to distance themselves from the reputation of United Healthcare. In my opinion AARP is not putting seniors first, they appear to be chasing profits at the expense of seniors.

AARP is clueless

I would give zero stars.
I just called AARP to find out as an organization representing 38+ million seniors, what are they doing regarding the elimination of no tax on Social security from the Tax bill in Washington being voted on right now.
You ask them a simple question, they ramble on reading a script that has nothing to do with the questions. The next person a supervisor did the same, telling me to check the AAPR and social security site for answers. Totally clueless.
A totally useless organization collecting money from millions of seniors, doing nothing. Certainly they do not represent me.
As far as the government, the elimination of seniors from the bill, they should be ashamed to treat senior again as second class citizens. A $4,000 "bonus"? Not even applying to each senior? Promisses made, promisses kept? Really?
You have to be a member of AARP if you have United Healthcare in addition to Plan B.
