Moving is stressful To say the least…

Moving is stressful To say the least but we decided to go with Pack Rats, first they were late on dropping the box off by a day, then we filled it within a week, we were told it would cast us $196 and change to drop it off and we wouldn’t owe again till the 18th of July, which is fine by me, the box has sealing issues, dented but hey nothings is perfect right. After we filled it and needed another box that was a month out to get another one, we couldn’t wait that long and had to add another company for another box which really stressed us out but that’s moving, so we ask how much to pick it up and take it to the facility which customer service stated it’s $16.04 but on the 18th you will owe $234.20 for us to store it but that’s it since we are under the thirty days right now. Pack rats told us they would come today the 22nd of June between 3-6 PM and we were adding a few items before three, the driver was to call 15 minutes before his arrival but we didn’t get a call and the driver shows up an hour early, we had it ready to go by 2:30pm a half hour before he was supposed to be here, he shows up, puts down we are not ready and drives off. Pack rats then charges us for picking up the box which never happened and customer service said well that’s fee for not wanting the box, I explained it to him and he thinks we refused to use them altogether yet the box is packed with our stuff in the driveway and to make matters worse they charge me another $189.00 and change which put me under in my account and didn’t even know the box was still here. So far today I spent well over an hour on the phone getting nobody after transfers and was forced to listen to some piano music which will forever be burned into my head, a bank fee of 35 bux, are possession’s are in a box still here in the driveway and no one seems to have an answer except call again tomorrow ugh!. We trusted them to help make this easier and they had nothing but good reviews on Facebook and a few other places so I kept digging and found this site which told us the truth and people with similar complaints and concerns, I blame me for not digging more into it, however we may empty our stuff back out and go with a different company we can trust and just bite the bullet, tears and sweat of doing this if we can’t reach anyone tomorrow we don’t know yet talk about frustrations UGH!!!!!

I had a very mixed experience with Pack…

I had a very mixed experience with Pack Rats, but I want to recognize both the challenges and the exceptional service I ultimately received.
When I first spoke with Aaron Rankin, he was absolutely amazing. He went above and beyond to help set up my POD schedule, which meant a lot—especially since moving is already stressful, and I’m relocating 2,000 miles. He scheduled my POD to be dropped off on June 29th, and everything seemed to be perfectly in place.
Based on that date, I coordinated with several family members who took time off work and would be driving an hour to help me unload. I truly have an incredible support system, and I planned everything around that confirmed date.
Unfortunately, when I called to update my address (since my portal wasn’t working), I was suddenly told the delivery had been moved to June 30th. When I explained that it was supposed to be June 29th, I was met with an “oh well” attitude, which was incredibly frustrating given the circumstances. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was left on hold for an hour and twenty minutes.
I eventually spoke with Joshua, who was kind and said he would do his best to adjust the date back, but couldn’t confirm anything until June 24th because he would be out of the office. As you can imagine, that uncertainty made for a very stressful night.
The next day, I decided to call again—and I’m so glad I did. I had the pleasure of speaking with Michelle Day, and she completely turned the experience around. She was warm, professional, and truly cared about helping me. Best of all, she was able to secure my POD delivery for the morning of June 29th, exactly as originally planned.
Michelle Day is a standout and truly embodies what customer service should be. She treated me with respect, urgency, and kindness—just the way customers hope to be treated during stressful situations like a cross-country move. Pack Rats would benefit greatly from having her involved in training others.
Thank you, Michelle, for going above and beyond. I have no doubt you will go very far with Pack Rats!

DO NOT USE 1-800-Pack-Rat

I contracted with 1-800-PACK-RAT for a long distance move for approximately $2,300. Throughout the move, I experienced multiple service failures that resulted in financial loss and ongoing hardship.

The container arrived damaged before loading and required repair for the doors to function properly. I was charged on June 2, 2026, despite being told I would not be charged until the container arrived at the final destination. After reviewing recorded calls, Pack Rat acknowledged this and later issued a partial refund.

Following that, the issues just kept coming. My delivery was originally scheduled for June 4, 2026, but was delayed until June 9, 2026. Because my belongings did not arrive as promised, I incurred additional hotel expenses while waiting for delivery. I also hired movers based on the scheduled June 9 delivery window of 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

When the container failed to arrive, I contacted Pack Rat and was informed that my delivery had been “skipped.” I received no advance notice or communication. The container was eventually delivered around 5:00 PM, causing me to pay movers for an entire day of waiting plus overtime costs.

The container was also placed improperly in the street, obstructing traffic and requiring my movers to physically reposition it.

Pack Rat was scheduled to retrieve the container the following day but never arrived. No notification was provided. Because the pickup did not occur, my city street permit expired.

As of today, the container remains on the street despite my repeated requests for removal. I am facing ongoing municipal fines and penalties because Pack Rat has failed to retrieve its property.

Although Pack Rat issued a $500 refund after acknowledging service failures, the service remains incomplete and I continue to incur damages.

TERRIBLE

I would give this a zero if at all possible. I had an out of state move occurring and had ordered two pods. After calling numerous times to confirm both were being picked up, only one was picked up. I was told "we had issues with drivers". They had the nerve to ask me to reschedule my movers because now the pods would not be delivered on the same day. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone and highly suggest you use another delivery service.

Our container was delivered to the…

Our container was delivered to the wrong address and we had to wait two days for them to bring it to the correct address. Then on pick up, I confirmed the date (which had to be pushed out 2 days because of the late delivery) and the container that was supposed to be picked up “first thing” still sits there after 10pm. I’m so frustrated about the poor service. In addition, we were on hold 3 times today and after explaining the issue, were put back into the queue. 2 hours and 45 minutes spent on hold. I finally reached a delightful person who listened to me and requested a first pick up for tomorrow. When we set this up with Ray (sales), the price was right and he said the customer service was excellent. I will never use this company again. I have another house to pack up but I will spend more to use someone else. I’m a VERY disappointed customer. And the most patronizing reply to any complaints, is apologizing for the inconvenience and thank you for bringing it to their attention. I have to wonder what there reaction would be if I apologized for not paying my bill!

Do not be enticed!

We were enticed by a promo offer of free moving labor on the front end of our move by a third party, Hire a Helper, that then contracts with local company's for labor. Bad mistake!

Labor provider called night before saying we may not have movers the next morning. We panicked! Called in the morning and were informed they were on the way, but would be an hour later than we had contracted.

Labor provided, started moving things, then the two movers started arguing and becoming combative towards each other about how to load the unit. At one point, one of the movers physically threatened the other. I was running a moving errand at the time, but upon my return, my wife was outside with one of the movers talking to their boss. Even the manager on the phone was combative.

We had to separate the two movers from each other, and I had to help move heavy furniture with one of the other workers, to at least get it into the unit. You know, the heavy stuff we contracted with a company to do for us?

After the heavy furniture was moved into the unit, we told the movers to just leave. We'll do the rest. Well, they rode together, and now the mover that drove wasn't going to give the other mover a ride. So they were arguing in the middle of the neighborhood. We finally had to close and lock all our doors and garage and tell them to leave or we were going to call the cops.

Absolute nightmare! Would not recommend this company that contracts with such shady 3rd party vendors.

When I approached the woman who was managing the truck, she was very unfriendly, looked me up and down, told me to speak to the homeowner then ignored me and turned her back to me. The homeowner apologized and said he did not set the schedule. Pack Rat, do not send noisy trucks into quiet neighborhoods after hours and get some customer service training for your people. She could have apologized and given me an estimate of how much longer it would take so I could go to sleep instead of turning her back to me. You will not get my business. THIEVES AND LIARS! BEWARE AND AVOID!

Worst moving experience we’ve ever encountered. We were lied to about our sloped driveway (Pods said the driver could decide at the house on the day of the move that he didn’t want to deal it); we called Packrat and were told they use a crane so it’s no problem at all, that it would be delivered to the lowest part of the driveway closest to the home for packing. The sales person looked up our home on the web and verified it was no issue. Yesterday the driver showed up and refused to go down the driveway at all. After numerous discussions between the driver and corporate, the only option we were offered with three hours to pack and move 700 miles was to leave the container in the street, turned the wrong way so every load had to be taken up the entire driveway then around the container. We had zero options given the home was scheduled for a deep clean and listing for sale the next day and our pets were boarded 700 miles away. We were then charged for overtime because the movers had to negotiate many more obstacles with the location of the container, as well as telling us Packrats told them the home was single story (it’s a two story home). The person on the phone was no help at all, ended up suggesting I call customer service and then didn’t text me the contact information as promised. Dishonest, disreputable company that I would never use again and will be certain to review on every platform I can find. AVOID THESE SCAMMERS! Edited to add I did contact customer service, and after being transferred to several people over two hours received an anemic discount that didn’t come near compensating us for the stress, hassle, time, money and inconvenience, let alone the thousands of dollars worth of possessions left behind when we ran out of time due to the excessive time waste of going up stairs, out front, up the driveway and around the back of the container.

I would never use this company unless…

I would never use this company unless you like liens on your trailer, trailers that are never picked up, gross over charges, trailer that are never dropped off when or where they are supposed to be and angry landlords because trailers are never picked up.

My experience with packrat has been terrible. I had to be out of my rented home by april 10th 2026. I was moving across state. Packrat seemed to have the cheapest rates. First off- it took two weeks and 3 reschedules for someone to tell me they could just drop off my trailer without me being there. (at this point I am over on my lease for my home) They drop the trailer off (no joke) the week of the 10th. I get it loaded...and miraculously I am out by the end of the weekend. However, my trailer was never picked UP. I scheduled twice, once the driver had to reschedule because he didn't have anyone to pick up. Then, somehow my ex neighbors truck was in the way. The same truck same parking place, mind you, as was there when they dropped off. Seriously...this truck is broke down and hasn't moved in YEARS. Every time I have called this company they have over an hour wait time for hold. Working 3 jobs, I do not have time for that. I cannot take an entire day off, just for them to call me back. The first time the driver had to reschedule, they tried to charge TWICE for fuel mileage that was never used, because the driver NEVER CAME. Thankfully they took that off the bill. I originally agreed to pay 325.00 a month...now it is the 3rd of June. My trailer is STILL sitting at my landlords home...and I am being charged over 500 dollars for a pickup that never took place. I have emailed, I have called, I have asked them to return my call..and mostly crickets, or they call back hours later while I am at work and unable to have my phone. I have been without everything i OWN for going on a solid MONTH because packrat's nonsense.

Not perfect, but close

I can’t say it’s been a 100% perfect move using 1-800-PACK-RAT, but I haven’t had the same negative experiences as a lot of folks. I had 2 16’ containers dropped at my home in Centreville, MD without issues. I made numerous phone calls beforehand to verify they would be delivered on a specific date bc I had movers coming the day after. Both got delivered within 30 minutes of each other on the expected date. Drivers and staff I talked to on the phone were all polite and professional. I’d give the entire pickup process a 5 star.

I was told containers would arrive in Bullhead City. AZ by May 22nd. By the time I got to AZ the containers were waiting at the Las Vegas facility. Getting the containers from MD to AZ gets another 5 stars.

I tried using the online tool to schedule delivery of my household goods. One pod could be delivered apprx a week from when I arrived, and the 2nd days after that. I wasn’t happy about waiting a week to get my stuff knowing they were sitting in the Las Vegas facility, so I called customer service. Eventually 1-800-PACK-RAT rearranged their schedule to get both containers delivered at the same time on an earlier date. Mike (the delivery driver), was awesome at getting both containers - one on the truck and one on a trailer, put exactly where I needed them in record time. A very personable guy and an excellent 1-800-PACK-RAT representative. All-in-all, everything has pretty much gone as expected - and agreed to -during the initial quote process.

Cancelled my entire move through…

Cancelled my entire move through 1-800-PACK-RAT and their representative explicitly told me they would also cancel the HireAHelper labor reservation for me. They failed to do so, the movers showed up anyway, no services were performed, and now I’m being told I owe full labor charges because it’s a “third party.”

Customers should know that if PACK-RAT says they will handle cancellation coordination, apparently that does not mean it actually gets done — and you may still get billed.

This was not a misunderstanding on my end. I relied on their representative’s assurance that everything had been cancelled.

Extremely disappointing experience and terrible accountability between PACK-RAT and HireAHelper.

Do not use Pack Rat unless you are not…

Do not use Pack Rat unless you are not concerned with receiving your container when promised. Ours was delayed three times, and the third time they didn’t even bother to call us to let us know it was to be delayed yet another day! After they told us they would waive the rental fee due to the delay, they actually charged us then I had to sit on hold three different times to finally get the charges reversed. Fun times in an already stressful situation. Our daughter has used both U-Haul and PODS with no problems at all. Call them instead!

Deceptive Discounts and Misleading Ads

This company deceptively entices people to order from them at a 50% discounted price, then when the order is confirmed and they have your credit card information, they remove the discount. Thank God I did not proceed with signing the contract and have contacted my credit card company to block all charges from this company. Once they got my order scheduled and confirmed, they will not take calls from me nor answer my online messages. As I read in other posts, yes, the representative sound impaired. I'm reporting them to my home state and North Carolina's attorney general's office.

1-800-PACK-RAT refusing to reimburse TV they damaged

I hired 1-800-PACK-RAT (Zippy Shell) for an interstate move from Florida to San Francisco, which included transportation, storage, and full loading and unloading services. I paid for these services expecting items would be handled safely and delivered in good condition.

One of the items transported was a 65-inch television that was fully functional prior to the move. It was packed in a purpose-built TV moving box with appropriate padding. From the moment the item was packed and placed into their container, all handling, loading, transportation, storage, and unloading were performed by 1-800-PACK-RAT (Zippy Shell) and their personnel. I had no involvement in handling the item during transit.

After delivery and storage, when the TV was first removed from the box and powered on, it displayed significant internal screen damage (flickering, lines, and display failure), rendering it unusable.

The damage appears to involve the internal display panel (LCD), which is typically not cost-effective to repair and often results in the television being considered a total loss.

I filed a claim within the required timeframe and provided documentation, including photos and a detailed description. The company denied the claim, stating the damage was due to “improper packing” or “normal shifting,” and claimed there was insufficient evidence. However, they provided no evidence or documentation to support this conclusion and refused to share details of their internal investigation.

The television was properly packed, and the damage is consistent with handling or transport-related impact. The company maintained exclusive control over the container and its contents throughout transit and storage, including all loading and unloading operations.

I attempted to resolve this directly with the company, including disputing their decision, but they upheld the denial without additional justification or transparency.

I am seeking reimbursement for the damaged television.

One & Done with Pack Rat

Ordered a 12 ft container on 3/18 for a 3/31 delivery. I received a call the morning of 3/31 that they didn't have any 12 ft containers, and that they would deliver 16 ft for the same price. I do not have room for a 16 ft container. After a 35-minute wait on the phone, a representative answered, who sounded impaired and could not get my information correct. It took two more phone calls and a call back to get my order cancelled. One and done with this outfit...call U-Haul...they're less expensive and much more customer oriented.

Salesperson lied about quote price being final price

They lied on service call to get us to move over from PODS said our final quote was the price, but they didn't mention if it's over $3 a gallon for diesel the quote is garbage, which it was at the time of quote, so they knowingly lied. Plus, charge you a repositioning fee for every mile of your move on top of what they quote you so we paid an additional $1500 we didn't budget for. Pray the rest of our move goes good but this doesn't sit well knowing the salesperson flat out lied to us.

Pack Rat Holding My Belongings Hostage

1-800-Pack-Rat has been the worst experience imaginable. I had a long distance move from Chandler, Arizona to Papillion, Nebraska. PackRat came to deliver two 16' empty containers to my home in Arizona, picked up the full containers, and delivered them to a facility in Nebraska where they would be held until I moved into my new home. This is where everything took a turn for the worst. My move in date to my new home, along with the delivery date for my containers, was 3/12 (and I had spent extra money to ensure those containers would be delivered before 12PM on that date). I got a phone call around 9AM on 3/12 stating that the truck broke down and is in the shop, but that they will still deliver my items by 5PM the same day. I called back that afternoon to ensure the delivery of my containers for that same day, and was told then that the truck was still broken down and the containers may or may not be delivered the next day - 3/13. I have been on the phone with them multiple times the last several days, and each time the date for the truck repair and container delivery is pushed back. Every person in customer service with 1-800-Pack-Rat has been absolutely awful to deal with - showing no respect or empathy for what me and my family are going through. They have also told me that compensation for our containers being delivered ~ 8 days late will be very little. I have 2 kids (ages 7 months and 2 years) who are living with my husband and I in an empty house for over a week! We had to go shopping for air mattresses, blankets, pots/pans, clothes, and essentials in order to live in an empty house. I have expressed this to several people at Pack Rat, and again was provided no empathy or compensation for the items I have had to purchase.

AT THIS POINT, OUR POSSESSIONS ARE BEING HELD HOSTAGE. We have been sitting in an empty house for 5days and PackRat is STILL unable to guarantee a delivery date. When are my containers going to be delivered? MY FAMILY NEEDS OUR BELONGINGS!

DONOT use this company

DONOT use this company. Over 100 plus items never came back to me. How do you lose furniture. Broken items. Used NC company. Called Chris Rogers the owner many times. Sent photos of missing and broken items. Was told by workers that items were stored in warehouse by a piece of tape. No wonder they lost so many items of mine. Owner said it was cheaper to send me a check for items missing or broken because his insurance would go up. To this day I have never received that check. He even told me he made plenty of money from the insurance company on this move. When my boxes and furniture came back it was placed in the room of my choosing. What a nightmare. I had to unpack and put everything back myself. If you want a company driven by money and not concerned with your property this is this company to go with. So much of a loss for me. Company only cares about money. Ask for Chris Rogers of NC by name. He will be more than happy to take your money.
