Nothing but praise from me

First; I’m astounded by the negative reviews, but obviously each person has their own experience.
I’ve had experience with 2 pets, and both were positive.
1. 18 month old dog who had an eye irritation. This quickly escalated to needing specialist investigation, so we were referred to VV. The treatment/care for Bugsy (and us) was outstanding. His condition was aggressive, and while we weren’t ‘told’ what to do, there was a clear and compassionate indication that it was unresolvable. His end was caring and respectful.
2. 15 yo cat with blood coming out of her nose. Refused care from registered vet, so I contacted VV and was able to take her in for immediate treatment. She had tests, then went through a 4+ hour procedure (her vet Sam explained afterwards that he came to a point where he had to balance risk of death under prolonged anaesthesia v having to cut through her jaw which would have left her with a vulnerable jaw for life). He succeeded without cutting her and pulled a 2cm grass seed from her nose.
Then today, at 22, DaisyMae needed to have a peaceful end. I phoned, got a time, and she got it, and we were treated with such care.
PS If I decide to have another furry purry, I’ll register with this practice.

If 0 was an option thats what I would…

If 0 was an option thats what I would have picked. I had to go today 14 June 2026 as an emergency not the vets I'd choose by choice now. I left this vets 18 months ago due to the rudeness I'd experienced on 3 occasions. The woman who intially let me into the practice today was downright rude and needs to learn how to be polite to clients. Did not believe I had been a client, was irritated I wasn't on their system then abrubtly told me they don't have to see me again if they don't have capacity as my new vets isn't on their list! I left Village Vet due to being ripped off on so many occasions and the rude staff and the constant products they try to force on you. Their only concern is how much they can rip you off for. They are most definately not in it for the love of animals. Advice is to look for an independant vet which I have done. Awful vets and I will be making this complaint to the owner/s not that they will care either. Avoid.

A money pit

It is just an unbelievable rip off.. £5400 for one night and a catheter and some bladder stabilisation and kidney monitoring.. The list of charges is just beyond and they just seem more interested in the earning.. Their eyes lit up at the prospect of my cat’s condition..

Sadly a corporately owned vet group only interested in one thing.. ££££

I advise others to find a local independently owned vet.. This is a racket

One star is too many

One star is too many. This company only cares about profit, not animal welfare. After taking my mini dachshund to Milton bc his heart was racing, constant yawning & visibly distressed (following a long walk) I was told he needs an expensive heart scan in a weeks time. I questioned pain as the cause for his symptoms & was told no. I immediately called Whittlesford (where I was registered but didn’t have availability) to ask for help as I was so shocked he would just be left like this. I attended another appointment with them & they only seemed concerned with blindly defending the decision of a close colleague in Milton. I had to argue to try pain relief all while they stressed him further. I was told “pain does not cause an increased heart rate”. You don’t need medical school to know it does. After metacam his pounding heart calmed down & he could settle. I was told over the phone the next day this was “likely a coincidence”. Following this I made a complaint only to find the practice manager cares even less. They also wanted to charge for both appointments. I ended up moving vets. The practice manager then called the receptionist at my new vets & tricked them into disclosing (unrelated) medication given by them to use against me in my complaint. All this stress on my dog & me while he was in fact in SEVERE pain from IVDD (3 disintegrated discs). But money first yeh.

Appalling Customer Service

I rang Village Vet on Friday morning as my cat was very unwell and not able to use the litter tray, he was screaming in pain. I had been recommended from a client that the vets were great, which is true the vet is great.

But, the front of house receptionist, their customer service is zero. Both ladies were rude, and treated me like dirt on the phone. They should be sacked and go get a job somewhere back of house, away from dealing with customers.

I pay £25 every month for two cats and neither of the receptionists, wanted to hear what I had to say. They wanted to get me off the phone, they did not care that my cat was in a lot of pain.

In the end I had to take my cat to PDSA in Bow. They were brilliant.

It is a disgrace that you hire, people with no people skills.

Although I do value my particular vet

Although I do value my particular vet, Sheldon at the Highgate Branch, and the staff there are all lovely, I dislike, intensely, the chain as a whole. Village Vet now are owned by Linnaeus, who are owned by Mars Petfood, and that greedy, money focused, soulless corporate ethos extends right down to grass roots level. Prices - appallingly high - are globally set, and this extends to the commonest everyday items as well as to medications and to all fees. I have felt the influence of that control grow over the years. Despite my particular head vet's knowledge and skill I would not advise anyone to use a Village Vet practice, because there will be an inevitable push on spend, coming from higher management

The fact that according to Trust Pilot's stats, the company HQ doesn't even reply to the huge number of negative reviews they are getting, says it all really. Obviously chains like Village Vet have been in the news of late - for all the reasons expressed in the negative reviews - on investigation by the Competition and Market Authority - for their collective take over of a majority of the shrinking independent vet market, and the creation of monopolies which fleece people and their beloved animals. It seems that Village Vet scores the lowest of all those chains. If only my particular vet was an independent vet, I know I would not be posting a review which says 'avoid' because it is the Village Vet EMPIRE which is the toxic entity here

Good care but ripping us off

The care my cat has received at Village Vet Palmers Green has always been great. Staff are also polite and kind.

However it stung to be charged £67 for a flea treatment that I then saw online, the same amount for £15-18.

When I called to cancel the order and ask for a prescription instead, they said, do you want to cancel the worming tablet as well? I had never asked for a worming tablet, but they had still added it on the cost.

Are they owned by private equity, I wonder?

Outstanding care

I’ve been bringing my dogs to The Village Vet in Pitshanger, and I couldn’t be happier with the care they receive. The vet who we have recently been seeing, Jordon is incredibly attentive and always takes his time to examine my dogs thoroughly, never rushing through appointments. It’s clear that he genuinely care about the animals and want to make sure nothing is overlooked.

I really appreciate how patient and reassuring he is, taking the time to explain everything clearly and answer any questions I have. It gives me great peace of mind knowing my dogs are in such capable and compassionate hands.

Highly recommend to anyone looking for a vet who truly goes above and beyond for their pets.

Village Vets

Hi all. This is a serious warning to anyone with animals and please pass it on. We brought our dog to Village Vet in Kildare Town (formerly Grey Abbey Vets) on Friday for his annual vaccinations. A couple of hours after we came home he came to me and he was rubbing his face with his paws. I noticed his face was swollen and his eyes were glazed. We brought him straight back and he was put on an IV drip and kept in for several hours. They said it was a reaction to the vaccination and admitted it had changed and was the only one they could now use since the take over by Village Vets. They said tests proved that only 1 in one thousand dogs suffered a reaction. I have since found out from an independent vet that it affects 1 in 250 dogs. If I had not been at home the dog would have died. They actually gave me a laugh on the way out as they presented us with an additional bill of 88 euro on top of what we had paid for the vaccination. I won't tell you what I told them they could do with their bill. It's too rude 🫣. As I said please pass this information on. He seems fine now but we were luckey. We asked for a meeting with their manager but not even a phone call so far. Thanks for caring

Poor customer service - Avoid

I had to use St Albans practice as an emergency service when my beloved dog was sadly dying. Unfortunately, what followed was one of the most distressing experiences I have ever had dealing with a veterinary practice.

After my dog was cremated, the practice lost her ashes. When I raised this with the practice manager, it was dismissed as a “miscommunication.” I was also told that drivers collect ashes and medication without properly logging what has been taken, and that these items can be left in vehicles overnight. I found this deeply upsetting and completely unacceptable given the sensitive and irreplaceable nature of what was being handled.

Losing a pet is already heartbreaking. Having to chase a veterinary practice for answers about where your pet’s ashes are only adds unnecessary stress and distress at an already difficult time. Throughout the process I felt the situation was not treated with the seriousness or empathy it deserved.

The practice eventually offered a partial refund as a gesture of goodwill, however it took over 12 weeks for that refund to actually be processed.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend this practice. I hope they urgently review their procedures for handling pets’ remains and ensure proper tracking and accountability so that no other owner has to go through this experience.

Shocking lack of care

I have just had a very upsetting experience here. My dog was in great pain so i rushed there for an emergency appointment. In my haste i forgot my phone (with Apple Pay) so i asked them to let me pay for the pain killer over the phone when i got home. They refused as they said they do not give "credit". The medicine was £30 (£3.59 on line). We are a member of the practise and are on their health plan so they have all my details. I even offered to leave my very valuable watch as surety! They were prepared to let my dog go home while whimpering in pain in order not to give "credit" for what can be bought for under £4 for the 20 mins it would take me to get home. (It was too late to go home and come back again that day ). When i questioned this , i was told that it was my fault i forgot my phone and it was unacceptable that i was making my dog's suffering their responsability. I know that there are a lot of complaints about the greed of these vet chains and Village Vet are amongst the most guilty here, but the lack of care and human kindness is a whole other story. I have obviously left the practise now. I could not have anyone look after my dog who has so little care for animals and so little kindness. The reception was empty otherwise i am sure a stranger would have offered to cover me as i would if i were to witness this. Not many people would be able to watch a dog suffer unnecessarily, but Village Vet did not seem to mind at all.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. Money orientated, zero compassion, sadly only choice out of hours and had 4 dealings with them now and every time they may as well put the card reader on your dying pet. Heartless and unsure how they are that cold.

I am leaving this review to document

I am leaving this review to document my experience and to help other pet owners make informed decisions.

My German Shepherd was treated at this clinic for an ear condition and prescribed a course of prednisolone. Although there was initial improvement, the original problem returned and my dog subsequently developed widespread dermatological issues including severe itching, skin lesions from self-mutilation, significant coat loss, and noticeable weight loss. The situation became serious enough that she now requires continuous use of an Elizabethan collar to prevent further injury.

I raised these concerns with the clinic and requested resolution, however I did not receive a response that addressed the extent of my dog’s deterioration or accepted responsibility for the outcome. I have therefore sought further veterinary assessment elsewhere.

This review reflects my personal experience. Based on what occurred, I would strongly encourage other pet owners to carefully consider treatment plans, ask detailed questions about potential side effects, and seek additional opinions where systemic medication is involved.

I hope this feedback contributes to greater transparency and accountability in veterinary care.

100% trust in Village Vet Winchmore Hill

I brought my cat in to see the vet for a lump on his nose and eye in December 2025. The vet suspected that it may be a tumour. A blood test and x-ray confirmed that it was and she discussed the options available. I was able to choose a third party for the chemo treatment which was able to be continued at Village Vet Winchmore Hill so that my cat did not have the stress of travelling far. In a nutshell, everything was done to save my cat but unfortunately he was too far gone and was losing the battle. Village Vet helped me to make a decision that was best for him as he was struggling to breathe. Each member of staff was empathetic, understanding and talked through the whole process. Even in his last hour, he was placed into an oxygen enclosure where he was made comfortable and I was then able to sit with him on my lap. In his last moments, he was in my arms and could hear my voice. The staff at Village Vet did everything possible to minimise any distress in his last moments for me and also for him. They have proved time and time again their integrity by advocating what is best for him. I trust them 100%.

An honest and caring practice

An honest and caring practice that will be able to guide you through difficult situations. Never felt that they were overdoing things for the money and I do feel the care they have with my dogs.
