Awful

Awful! This company is quick to take your money, and slow to react to claims. The emails that come from the various claim handlers offer contradiction and obstruction, all while doing everything they can to not pay up on legitimate claims. Do not waste your money with this company as the insurance is not worth it at all.

UPDATE: they contacted me to get more details and my phone number, acting like they cared about my experience and would contact me about this. THEY DIDN'T. I CANNOT EXPRESS ENOUGH, BE CAREFUL WHO YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH!!

READ THE REOLY BELOW: corporate inadequacies and excuses! I stand by my views! Do not waste your money, buy carefully. Caveat emptor

Firstly, we apologise for the time taken between requesting information from you to posting a response on here. Using your details, we could see that there had been complications with the claims you had raised so we needed to ensure this was reviewed thoroughly before we responded and also we wanted to reach out to you directly before we posted to this open forum.

We have now discussed your claims with you to point out that one of the cases that you had recently raised with us in respect of delays suffered in June 2023 had actually been settled in July 2023. We acknowledge that on that case, the matter was initially declined by our online claims system based on the information supplied. However, when you provided further clarification around the circumstances, the case was immediately settled.

The subsequent claim for a delay suffered in Sept 2023 was declined as you were not able to provide documentation to substantiate the claim. In Jan 2024 after you complained about the outcome, the decision to decline was upheld and you were advised of your right to take the matter to the ombudsman if you were not happy with the outcome. In Aug 2024 you wrote to us with the documentation needed but the cause of the delay is not covered and we replied two days later to explain this.

This was when you asked about making a claim for the June 2023 delay. Our response should have been to direct you to the settlement already received. Unfortunately, the incorrect information was sent instead. We apologies for the error and any confusion caused as a consequence.

Brilliant and efficient service

When we did our policy we made an error on one name. I dealt with Tando and Raushan and they were AMAZING. They could not have been more helpful, professional and friendly. Long time since I have experienced such amazing service.

Quite a frustrating experience

Policy N 501/450899

I had quite a frustrating experience getting the insurance quote and applying a discount.

The staff wasn't aware of how the corporate discount works which led to a few long clarification calls with the customer support team and eventually the burden was on me to provide the evidences and proofs of the corporate policies.

Which normally wouldn't be a huge problem - I knew they could process the refund later once the confusion is resolved but... :
1. The customer support team was adamant that I was wrong, despite my having two previous policies with them. I think they spent more time convincing me I was wrong instead of investigating the issue properly.
2. Sometimes it was hard to be aligned with the customer support team. For example, when I asked for a gesture of goodwill they told me "the promo discount is already a gesture of goodwill"... And then I was told I did not qualify for the promo code... So in their view, a promo code I don't qualify for is a gesture of goodwill? And that is just one example of a few.

Overall what led me to rate my experience as 3 stars is that I wondered how much trouble one would have to go through should they need to make a claim and meet such customer support agents

Awful claim handling

Quick to take your money - but claims are met with delay and obfuscation, keep changing the information they require just to delay processing the claim. Delays in replying to emails.
Don't bother ringing them 40+ minutes no answer. Promised call back, "We'll call you back as soon as possible" don't hold you breath, still waiting after 2 hours.
Don't touch them.
BTY Trustpilot's scoring system inflates their rating because 0 is not an option.

Efficienti e cordiali.

Leggo recensioni pessime di utenti che lamentano il mancato rimborso per la rottura di una ruota della valigia ( 10 euro circa).....o il rimborso per il ritardo aereo di qualche ora (20 euro circa), l'assicurazione bisogna giudicarla e dare una recensione su qualcosa di piu serio di una semplice ruota di un'insignificante valigia.........., la mia disavventura e stata di essere ricoverato in clinica per un infarto, dove mi hanno applicato uno stent coronario, mentre ero in vacanza in Brasile, la Columbus, oltre ad essere efficiente e presente ha provveduto a tutte le spese, compreso i successivi 20 giorni di convalescenza in hotel perchè impossibilitato a volare, oltretutto la Columbus ha pagato anche il biglietto aereo in business class a me e al mio accompagnatore.
Detto questo, mi viene da ridere leggere recensioni negative a riguardo di stupidi rimborsi di pochissimi euro.
....Ah.... la solo operazione in clinica è venuta a costare EURO 30,000.
Ringrazierò per sempre la Columbus per l'efficienza e la cordialità mostratami.

Travel Insurance Claim

Travel Insurance Claim - Ref: 587757

Ive just been told that "Your policy doesn't provide cover if you didn't seek the advice of a medical professional which confirms the necessity to cancel the trip."

Myself and my family were due to travel on Sunday 07/01/2024. My son and myself both fell ill that week and so on the Friday went to see our local surgery where we were both diagnosed with flu like symptoms. I was given a sick note to use should the need arise - which I duly attached to my claim.

We were still hoping to travel on the Sunday but unfortunately we did not recover in time for our trip.

The doctors surgery is closed on a Sunday, so we were unable to see a GP and anyway I assumed the sick note from the Friday would cover this.

Columbus Direct appear to be trying to trip me up on a vague technicality.

So, Im now having to try to sort all this out, myself with flu, whilst looking after a sick 11 year old boy.

Luci e Ombre

Sono anni che faccio con loro una annuale multiviaggio. L'ho dovuta usare solo due volte in un caso per rottura bagaglio con tempi di risposta biblici e alla fine risolto tramite la compagnia aera (ma eravamo post covid e probabilmente erano sommersi). Seconda volta per infortuneo in viaggio questa volta sembra che alcune loro richieste di integrazione non mi fossero mai arrivate e una volta contattati è arrivato il rimborso. Consiglio alla compagnia di migliorare la sezione sinistri aperti perchè non è chiaro se è necessario aggiungere altri documenti o se ci sono integrazioni pending (magari mettendo anche una live chat)

La polizza esclude purtroppo copertura per eventuali eventi legati a patologie pregresse o a condizioni mediche preesistenti come indicato nel contratto assicurativo.

Have had very poor service..travel…

Have had very poor service..travel insurance claim still not resolved after 10 months......communication is poor....emails are met with the sorry for the delay but all our claim handlers are busy. ie they do not employ enough claims handlers for their business. This is a shame because my medical recovery was handled very well.

We're pleased to hear your comments that when you needed emergency assistance, the team that looked after you did so very well, but sorry to learn that you felt this level of service was not continued when your case then went to the claims team.

Just a couple of quick notes. These services are provided by the same company, just different teams and we'd expect the service from both to be at a high level. Also, our claims team are contactable by phone and there is a contact number provided in your policy wording.

We understand that the claims team have already been in touch to confirm the position of the case and to also arrange a payment that was due to you. We have also sked the team to log a complaint regarding the service received so a full investigation can be conducted into the handling of the case.

I have been a customer of Columbus…

I have been a customer of Columbus Direct for many years and have bought my travel insurance from them for nearly twenty years.
Yesterday I received an email from them letting me know that my policy was due to expire at the end of this month and that my new premium would be an increase of 250% on my current charge.
I have never claimed against my policy.
I queried this and was told (in a cut and paste email)that I am now in a different age group and that this justified the huge increase in the cost of the policy.
I know that age is a determining factor in calculating the cost of a policy but I cannot fathom how Columbus can justify such a massive increase.
A second email to them asking how their pricing system works was ignored and they sent me an email telling me that they were happy to have been able to resolve my issue.
I have, of course, cancelled renewal of my policy and have found several reputable companies who offer the same terms and conditions for about half the price that they quoted.

Columbus Disaster

Needed to make a claim for not travelling due to Covid positive.
Spoke with customer service adviser who rudely told me that our policy had expired after 10 years of auto-renewal because 1. The card had expired and 2. it didn't go through. They say they sent an email. We did not receive it. So now we are insurance-less and out of pocket!
Explained why would we cancel after 10 years. Woman repeatedly just said we sent you an email even tho the claims team said regardless to process the claim!!!
RUBBISH! Happy to take money for all the years and now conveniently its expired!!!

Ottima esperienza con sinistro x furto

Da anni stipulo questa assicuraizone per i miei viaggi. Quest'anno ho scelto la formula annuale che mi permette di risparmiare facendo io parecchi viaggi . Purtroppo sono stata derubata a Madrid, direttamente in camera di albergo mi hanno sottratto un giubbotto di valore. Ho provveduto a fare la denuncia alle autorità locali e tornata a casa ho aperto il sinistro. diciamo che la pratica di apertura è un po' complicata tra mail e sito web. Ti richiedono prova del viaggio effettuato , denuncia scritta all'autorità competente e prova dell'acquisto dell'articolo che ti è stato sottratto. fortunatamente tengo tutti gli scontrini ed il giubbotto era nuovo. In 3 settimane mi hanno liquidato con il max risarcibile come da polizza. Ottimo servizio!!!! Consiglio a tutti questa assicurazione.

Disappointed

I lost my passport 3 days before travel. The Passport Office was unable to help me. Columbus told me today that losing my passport was not grounds for reimbursement. I lost £800 that I couldn't afford to lose. I will not be using the company again. I waited a month for someone to contact me and then was told I was sent an email on August 18, but I never saw it. Thanks.

Esperienza più che positiva

Utilizzo questa polizza da diversi anni per tutti i miei viaggi in Europa e oltreoceano poiché, a fronte di un premio competitivo, offre una copertura completa e in linea con le mie esigenze. Questa estate, purtroppo, ho dovuto annullare un viaggio a causa di un problema di salute improvviso. Ho attivato il sinistro per recuperare il costo del volo prenotato e in meno di un mese di attesa ho ricevuto il bonifico del rimborso sul conto. Non posso che ritenermi soddisfatto e nei miei prossimi viaggi mi sentirò ancora più al sicuro perché so di poter contare su una compagnia seria e affidabile. A mio avviso l’unica cosa migliorabile è la procedura on line di apertura del sinistro che nel mio caso non è andata a buon fine. In ogni caso si risolve facilmente attivando il sinistro via mail. Tutto il resto è al top: trasparenza, copertura, importo del premio, tempi di attesa nella gestione delle pratiche, cordialità ed efficienza degli operatori.

I was one of many affected by the hurriedly re-arranged flights from Sicily in July. I thought my policy covered curtailment for what the travel company described as an emergency. It did not. I assumed that cover for curtailment meant curtailment for all emergencies. Unfortunately it does not. I accept the onus is on the customer to read the policy conditions carefully, though for an issue as fundamental as the issue of curtailment, I think the onus should be on the insurers to make absolutely clear that curtailment emergencies are only those relating to personal accident or ill health.
